These boots are amazing. They require no break in time. I put them on and wore them all day long and my feet were so happy ... I felt like I was wearing slippers all day. I ordered them in a size 7 and they fit perfectly with a nice thick or (thinner pair of socks) .... with no squeezing of toes. They look really great on my feet. Not clunky at all. I would say you could wear these either for hiking or out in the field or on the back of a horse. They are very well made and look like they will last forever.

I am extremely pleased with these hiking boots! They were comfortable right out of the box and needed no break-in time. I wore them around the house for a couple of days and then they accompanied me on an 11 day trip to Guatemala and Honduras where they got a workout climbing MANY Mayan pyramids and I had no problems whatsoever. No rubbing or blisters. They performed really well in a few heavy downpours and then hiking for several hours in very wet and muddy conditions. My feet never felt even slightly damp. I tried 6 or 7 other styles of boots, all in both an 8 and 8.5 (8 has always been my usual size for many years), and in every other boot, the 8.5 is what fit me best but in these boots, the size 8 was the best fit so I hesitate to say if all the others ran small or this one ran a tad big. I also tried them in both a regular width and wide width. I honestly didn't feel any difference so I went with the wide width in case I had some swelling or wanted to wear thicker socks. I think there is good adjustability to tighten up the laces if they ever feel a little loose. The arch support was perfect for me also. I have what I'd call a normal arch and I found that all the other boots I tried either had too little or too much arch support and I knew that both would cause me problems after a long day in them. The insoles are very comfortable too. No need to replace with other ones in my opinion. I'm so happy with these that I think I'm going to buy another pair to put aside, although these seem very well made and I feel like they'll last a very long time. I think they're nice looking too. I wanted something pretty unobtrusive and classic looking and these fit the bill perfectly for me! Thanks Zappos!

I wear hiking boots for hiking, walking and most everything else. My 63-year old feet are very finicky - no padding on the bottom, bone spurs over the high arches, and arthritis coming along in the toes. I had to give up my Merrills because of hot spots and incredible foot pain while and after wearing. So, I turned to these Ariats after reading the reviews (and sister Zapporians, THANK YOU for your excellent reviews). Out of the box, my trial run was flawless. No hot spots, excellent foot support and placement in the shoe. The trial run was a day of working and constant movement. Absolutely no pain and plenty of energy left over once the chores were done. These Ariats are coming on a walking/hiking tour of the Piemonte this fall. They'll be old friends by then. I may come back with an image of them doing their job!

These are absolutely waterproof. I wore them in Denali and Anchorage where it rained quite a bit. I have also trudged through hard packed snow and slushy ice in them. And yesterday I wore them while doing work in the muddy garden... I simply rinsed the mud off in the sink! The water doesn't even leave discernible marks on the leather. I don't know how they do it, but it's great. They are very comfy and required little to no break in, as with all of my Ariats (have two pairs of cowboy boots). I normally wear a 10.5 - 11 in closed toed shoes (10-10.5 in open toed shoes). A size 10 in these works perfectly for me, even with thick hiking socks. My Ariat cowboy boots are also 10, so the sizing is consistent across the brand.

Sturdy shoe with great ankle support and decent arch support. They seem to be water resistant although I have not used them in seriously wet weather yet. The first time I wore them, it felt like the seam over the top of the foot where the tongue meets the body of the shoe rubbed the top of my foot. The second time I wore them I barely noticed that, then the third time not at all. I think the leather does need to break in some, but once it does, they are very comfortable. The soles are very slip/skid resistant on inclines. These are well made and should last me many years.

Not like you need another great review for these great boots but here it is - Outdoorsy Girls, run, don't walk to buy a pair of these! My last pair was bought in 2000 and I still wear them but these H20's are the best things I've ever put on my terrible feet! I hate even taking them off to go to sleep! Do it! Now!

I needed a work boot for the barn when the holes got too big to ignore in my last pair. Looked at what was available on Zappos and found the Ariat Terrain, which as describes was exactly what I needed. They arrived quickly and got put right to work. They have great support, fit well (I feel the sizing is accurate) with room for a good sock, and could be worn for riding as well as a work book. They have weathered muck, mud and rain (I am so happy I got the waterproof version) and provide good footing on all the different kinds of uneven surfaces you find around stables. This was a great purchase.

I have been looking for these boots for a long time! They fit well, even with a thin orthotic in them. They look nice with a variety of pants - jeans to corduroys. They are warm and keep my feet dry. Fabulous!

My second pair, first pair lasted 4 years. Love the waterproofing! For me, boots ran large; I ordered half a size smaller than dress shoes and still am comfy wearing Smart Wool socks with the boots.

Ariat Terrain - I love Ariat riding shoes. I've tried other brands but always come back to them. The comfort is unbelievable...I wear them all the time. It's hard to find size 5 1/2 in stores or catalogs, even, so I was delighted to see them at Zappos.

Great shoes! I'm an Ariat fan and these shoes did not disappoint me! I put them on and wore them to a festival the first day and a 12 mile trail ride the next day, no problems!

Love this boot! Okay, maybe it isn't really a boot, but it's close. Stabilizing feature makes this an extraordinarily comfortable shoe, especially for someone who has leg and back problems. This IS wider than the usual shoe so I didn't think the medium width would work but it fits my wide feet just fine, with plenty of room in the toe box. I'm not used to anything hugging the ankle and didn't know if it would irritate, but even that is fine. No break-in needed; it felt great from the first minute. Plenty of arch support and the laces make it possible to "custom fit" if you have a high instep. I got the black and will certainly get other colors. Can be worn with jeans or casual pants and they are so comfortable and non-skid that I wear them for my dog training sessions. This is the first pair of Ariat shoes I've had and if all of them are this comfortable - and provide this stability - you can bet I'll try some others!

Excellent arch support, soft straps, airy, non-sweaty design, and immediately so comfortable thanks to the soft footbed. After this sandal, in comparison, the regular footbed was just too hard for me. The only downside is that, for myself, I think it is just so hideously ugly. ut when your arch hurts, who cares? It’s unbeatable 5 star when it comes to supportive, cool, soft comfort. I wear it in the house and use the Birkenstock insole (also excellent) in my shoes. FYI - Birkenstock sizes run huge for me (I don’t follow the UK to US sizing they go by).

My second pair of these boots! I love these boots. I've worn my first pair for 5 years now. They're the most comfortable boots I own, I wear them as an all purpose work boot as well as a hiking boot. They never hurt around the ankle like a lot of high-top boots.

Great Boot - This is the fourth pair of Ariat Terrain boots I have purchased. I have a wide foot and this accommodates very comfortably. I have to wear boots to work and this one is great with good traction, comfort and is cute, too.

Troubled feet have found a home!! I ordered these boots for work. I’m on my feet all day in all kinds of weather so needed something strong, waterproof, but comfy. I have issues with my feet so really need support, comfort, not too tight. This boot is GREAT!! Put it on right out of the box, wore it around the house for five hours and my feet felt supported but not squished. Thank you Zappos once again. This is the only place to buy shoes!!

Love the Ariat Terrain! Love Ariat shoes! I love Ariat shoes. This boot is wonderful! I stand on my feet for hours and they feel so comfortable even at the end of the day. I normally order wide in other shoes but no need to with Ariat. Room in the toes and support in the sole. I can tighten the laces to keep the shoe securely on. I have heavy ankles but this boot certainly accommodates! No chafing anywhere!

Great shoe for stability and protection. Keeps feet warm and dry in my snowy slushy area. They look great, too. Zappos has the best shipping and return service I have ever experienced. Thank you!

Simply the best!! I absolutely LOVE these boots! They have wonderful arch support, are lightweight and extremely comfortable. I wish I had several more pairs!

XLNT - Having a wide foot I was hesitant about not having a choice in widths, but this shoe is SO comfortable. I have always removed my shoes as soon as I get home, but I actually don't even think about it in these. My boyfriend just ordered a pair (men’s) for himself too. Very quick service....very, very pleased overall!

Nice looking boot - I love the look of this boot. The size was correct. Since I have a low to flat arch, this was not right for me and I am disappointed because I believe that it would have been perfect other than the arch felt. So lightweight. Perfect for those high arches. Any out there for us low arch people with the same comfort?

Perfect riding and hiking boot - I was very unsure of buying shoes on line as I have some foot problems. The Ariat Terrain is the most comfortable shoe I've tried. There's plenty of wiggle room in the toe area and I'm able to use an orthotic comfortably. I hike daily and also ride my horse with the Ariat Terrains. Great for both. A plus is that they are very attractive. I'll buy another pair.

Wore them at work - I worked at a Dude Ranch in the children’s department. This required a lot of walking around the arena as well as riding. These boots were perfect! They did not make my feet hurt like my old paddock boots. Instead they were all day comfortable. Someone said they were warm? I wore them in 100+ degree temperatures and did not find that to be a problem.

What a boot! Hallelujah! Took the "Ariat's Terrain" out of the box with great hopes...I have a difficult foot to fit and buying boots is a nightmare. Can't believe it! It's true to size and fits like a dream. I only wish I had tried the Ariat brand before now.
