Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)

These are excellent shoes for work. I wanted these to be the kind that last forever, but unfortunately, the spurs on the back of the eyelets are digging into the leather tongue of my shoe. It started a few months in and has gradually ripped giant holes in the tongue over the years. One of the eyelets has started rotating freely in its hole, meaning I can only lace my right shoe up two rungs. Thankfully, they're 6" ankle boots, so I can tie the holes up at the ankles with a tight knot, and the two rungs are sufficient for now. Kind of disappointed in the quality of the eyelets, but very happy with every other part of the shoe, including comfort, look, and ruggedness of the leather.

The boots themselves are nice however the size and shape of the boots are inconsistent. I bought a pair and I could visually see that the right boot was smaller than the left. Also the right boot want level and was twisting my foot inward. Zappos sent a second pair right away and I had to keep one shoe from each pair that best fit together. They are good boots but be careful because the quality is extremely inconsistent.

I wear other styles of Red Wings because of the diversity of sizes (I'm a wide foot). These boots although nice are not as comfortable as I would have expected from Red Wing. Also for a boot costing over 300.00 I would have expected some sort of foot bed. There was just a flat piece of leather with no arch support.

3.5 year update. Boots were fabulous everyday workers. As everyone has said, worthless in snow. I have never fallen that hard in a parking lot in my life! Otherwise great for just about any job you throw at them. I've worn the heck out of my suede Rangers for over 3 years...and even with generous upkeep, cleaning, brushing and waterproofing...they still cracked. This much for a year investment doesn't work for me. Going to see if Red Wing will replace them...otherwise, I've loved them.

They look great in jeans and dress pants. Takes a long time to break in. Can't be worn in snow. If you wear them in the snow, prepare to see an old woman with a cane walk faster than you.

I ordered the size 8.EE. When it arrived the shoes were both marked 8EE, but the right shoe was a full 0.5cm narrower than the left shoe. I measured several times across the sole, and from stitching line to stitching line across the sole. There was a consistent 4-5mm difference. Red Wing shoe co. was not helpful in determining which of the two was the correct size. That company sent me a generic form letter without reading my email questions. Also, I'm not a fan of the bulbous toe. So due to possible quality issues, unhelpful email support by red wings, and the bulbous toe, I would not recommend this shoe. The left shoe was comfortable so I'll it four stars. If both shoes were the width of the left shoe it would have been perfect. The appearance is okay except I'm not a fan of the shape of the toe so three stars. I went a half size down for length from my normal shoes and it fit well in that regard. One of the shoes was true to width and the other was narrow, but I'm not sure which is the way they are supposed to be.

These are purpose-built boots. Leather quality is good, but the stitching and the actual cuts of leather are lacking. There is a definite asymmetry to my right boot (does not affect fit, but for the price finish could be better). I live in New England -- we get lots of rain and snow. These boots offer absolutely no traction on mud / ice / slush / snow. Do not expect these to be foul weather boots. They are designed to be worn in dry conditions on a level surface (as their Iron Worker heritage implies). Style is excellent. Look great with a pair of jeans. Now that J.Crew and other fashion houses have started selling boots of this style, I've seen many more around.

I really wanted to like these boots. They look very nice but they are uncomfortable to the point that wearing them a few days in a row, even at a desk job, was brutal. I do not normally wear wide footwear. These boots were entirely too narrow and they do not stretch. I repeat, they will not break in significantly in any sort of normal time frame. I have had them for a year and I'm giving up. I even bought a boot stretcher but can't get them to do anything but chew on my feet. They're terrible. If you find them at all uncomfortable when you first put them on, walk away. I know boots have a break-in period but these aren't going to get much more comfortable even after a year of regular wear. The heel and toe are very stiff. The leather around the ankle is very thick and also stiff. These boots look good sitting in your closet but they just aren't designed with actual use and movement in mind. The leather will bunch, pinch, crush, etc your ankles, foot, and toes mercilessly. The sole is also very smooth and completely worthless on snow or ice. These boots turned out to be my biggest case of footwear buyer's remorse. Don't think they'll get better with time. They don't.

Could have been a great boot. One of the cap toes on my boot was not evenly sewn on. It was very noticable. I tried to get past it, but couldn't. Sent them back to Zappos. This may be an isolated incident, but this should have never happened in the first place

I have worn Red Wings my entire life. These look really cool and I can see guys buying them for city boots. They are super heavy. Like far heavier than my Norwiegen Welt Hiking boots. This was the 1st pair of Red Wings that failed me. One of the soles just pealed apart after a few weeks. Needless to say I was surprised but I fully expected Redwing to stand behind their product. I sent them in at a pretty steep cost since they were heavy. A couple of weeks later they were returned to me with a letter stating that their engineers said it was not the fault of the company. Now if you look at these boots you can see they should be built to last I have had several pairs that last me YEARS. I wrote additional letter and got the same reply. I am sad for both myself and Redwing because Ill never buy another pair. Oh I forgot to add I never wore the boots for work just for day to day around San Francisco.
