I got the wide version because I recently discovered that I have wide feet (per my podiatrist). For the record I wore a 10 in the normal width, before deciding to go with a wide size 9. Ordering from Zappos was a breeze. Ended up with three pairs to get accurate fit and sent two back with absolutely no hiccups. Quick to refund. In my opinion, more people should consider trying the wide version of this boot. Being able to comfortably wear thick socks in the winter, without your toes being squished, is a great feeling. Break in period was a couple/few weeks, I waited to treat them (Sno-Seal) until I thought all of the creases had formed so that the beeswax would really get in to the leather where it stretched a bit. I don't know if that's how it should be done, but it made sense to me. They will darken with treatment. A lot of compliments, people do (somehow) recognize that they are Red Wing Iron Rangers. I will add that the insole offers little-to-no cushion or arch support. Perhaps another reason to try on a few sizes and throw an insole in there with your thick socks, to make sure they'll be able to handle those moments when it is really cold. I love lacing these up, make sure you get the right size and enjoy! Zappos makes that as easy as possible.

I ordered 3 pair of these shoes to get the right fit. I'm a 12 in tennis shoes. I tried an 11 and 11.5 Med and an 11 wide. Ultimately the 11 fit right. A little snug on the sides which is why I tried a wide, but the wide was too loose. They look slick and are breaking in nicely. I put some flat laces on them. I haven't tried Obenaufs yet because I don't want to darken the shoes.

These are fantastic boots. They require a little break but well worth it. My last Red Wings lasted 20 years. Great service and fast! I would recommend to anyone. I have very wide feet and was leery but I read other reviews about them loosening up and took a chance. I am very glad that I did.

Took about a week of wearing them every day to break in. After that truly amazing boots I wear them every where even walking around downtown for hours. Definitely worth the price I do wear a size 10 in Frye boots. But got these in a size 9.5 and they fit perfect.

My first pair of Red Wing boots. They were a little rough breaking in, but once I applied Red Wing mink oil, they softened up. After about a month of non stop wear, they're very comfortable. Overall, I'm very pleased with them.

I've had my Iron Rangers for a year and a half and they are great. The leather is as tough as it gets, which takes some work to break in, but holds up better than cheaper boots. I burn through sneakers and cheaper boots in a matter of months with work, but these have really lasted. The cork sole is great in most conditions, except snow or mud. I resoled mine with a lugged vibram sole last winter and now they are perfect. Keep them oiled and they'll last a lifetime.

Zappos is GREAT! Free no hassle returns, great customer service and good prices! These boots were a gift for our son and he loves them! We ordered a half size larger, but they were too big, so ended up with 11.5 E (pretty true to size). Look great!

These boots rock! I really contemplated spending this much money, but it was worth it. The quality is top-notch. I purchased a medium width, and thought they were too tight, so also purchased a wide (EE) width. After comparing, I stuck with the medium-width knowing that they are leather and will relax after a while. In only a day of wearing them, they don't feel that snug anymore, and I can tell they are going to be very comfortable. This boot appears (so far) to be well worth the money!

I have these in brown (8111), and they are perhaps my fave pair of boots. Decided to get them in black, and they do not disappoint. Stiff out the box, but with the right care, they will break in perfectly. I'm typically a 9.5D in most shoes, but with these you have to go down 1/2 size, so the 9D is perfect. Use Red Wing boot oil to condition them. To break them in, run a pair of thick socks under hot water, put them on, then wear the boots around your house for like an hour. Repeat once if necessary. They will break in perfectly. The SB Foot leather on these are top quality. Also, these boots are somewhat narrow compared to the Doc Martens Made in England's and the Alden 405's.

These boots are amazing. Craftsmanship ship was top notch and I could immediately tell they were handmade. I suggest some good boot oil to speed up the break in time. It took about a month to break mine and once I did I feel in love. It's a great looking boot with a retro vibe.

My husband has been wearing these for 3 weeks straight and absolutely loves them. They were comfortable out of the box, but they are still breaking in. Definitely recommend buy two pair, 1 at a 1/2 size down and 1 at a whole size down. These do run a bit small, but will stretch with use. Also, the laces will seem short at first, but will stretch as they wear in too. He highly recommends these boots.

Not a lot of wear time in these yet, but initial impressions are great boot! Stylish, rugged at the same time. Not really meant for heavy duty outdoor use. Reiterate what most others have said is these run BIG. I usually wear 12-13 shoes. Had to go down to an 11 on these.

This is a 3-year follow-up. This boot was on the verge of painful for the first 2-3 weeks. It took a long time to break in. I wear cotton/wool blend Wigwam raglan socks and these boot were still a project. However, after 2-3 weeks of break-in, these boots really started to "work in" and became really comfortable. Now, after 3+ years they are absolutely my favorite shoes. I rub them with Mink Oil about twice per year. I also wash them alternately with Saddle Soap about twice per year. These boots are really amazing. In Tennessee I wear them year-round and constantly get compliments on them in a very professional working environment. I will be buying a second pair within the next year just so I have another pair, in case they discontinue them. This is by-far my favorite shoe. It will be yours also, if you're man enough the get them broken in. :)

A truly great looking boot, but the sizing is very odd -- long and very narrow. The black only comes in "D" width, which really feels about like a "B" (narrow). The Amber comes in a "EE", which is probably about like a "D."

Just became my new favorite casual wear. I love this boot. Thought it might not be comfortable without an insole and all but that's not the case. I wear a 12 in most sneakers but had to go down to an 11 for this boot. So like most reviews I would consider going to a store To try one on first.

I have five pairs of Red Wings in various styles. I rank Red Wings at the top of list for quality, comfort, and durability. Reading all of the rave reviews left me with a need to comment about these boots and the other Red Wings. It's about the sizing of the boots. These are not like shoes in terms of fit. They feel large in the correct size, but that is because they allow for wearing boot socks and not the thin cotton socks worn with shoes. A nice thick boot sock fills out the boot just right. Tighten the laces to adjust the fit for the different thickness of the socks and the fit becomes perfect. If I went down in size there wouldn't be room for the thickness of boot socks. I buy from Zappos and from the Red Wing store near my house. Talking with the store owner has helped me to get the right size in my Red Wings. It's the size I normally wear and yes they fit roomy, but that is good and not bad. I can wear boot socks, but not my shoe socks. Boots fit differently than shoes so as I have purchased my pairs of Red Wings I have also purchased boot socks so I have the right fit and feel in my Red Wings.

Absolutely love this boot. I have been wearing them five days a week for about a month, and they are starting to break in nicely. Great with jeans for a casual look. As for sizing, I found them to be one half size smaller than my Nike's, but true to size when compared with Converse high tops.

This is my second pair of Red Wings. As a more rigid design, these did take a few days of wear to break in but since then they've been excellent. High quality, long lasting design and materials. I expect to enjoy these for years.

Great boot. I usually wear a 10.5 to 11 and I ordered a 10 wide in these boots. The fit is great and they are extremely comfortable right out of the box. I cant wait to get them broken in.

Customer service was as advertised. Despite a few logistical hiccups, the team at Zappos made every effort to assure that I was a satisfied customer. I am a Zappos customer for life.

First and foremost, size down! As other reviews said, these run large. I bought a full size smaller, and they are breaking in to be a perfect fit. They are a good looking and sturdy boot. The out-sole is well made and slip resistant. By slip resistant, I mean to oil, grease, etc. The flat sole is not good in snowy or icy conditions! I have been wearing mine consistently for the last month, and they are really beginning to break in. Until they do, expect it to be stiff and, if you wear them all day early on, expect to have sore feet. I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants a sturdy good looking boot that should last a very long time.

I love these boots. I bought mine in black. I ordered one full size down, I am normally a 10 in Nike and purchased a 9 in these boots. You want the fit to be snug because they slowly stretch and conform to your feet. They are a little uncomfortable for the first week. Now fit like gloves.

Owing to the price, I waited a while to to purchase these boots. I try to buy american product even if there is a slight price premium, but these stung a bit. After reading the reviews here I thought I would give them a shot. I was lucky enough to have a RedWings store near by so I could try them on. I usually wear a 10 to 10.5 these were a perfect fit in a size 8.5. The sales person did not looks surprised, she just smiled and said they ran big. I did a 2 mile walk with the dogs wearing my new boots and literally no hot spots or rubbing. Honestly, a perfect fit. I also found out they they give you free shoe laces for life, will do any stitching repair at no charge (they send them in) and they will resole them for more. These are a great pair of american made boots. If you are on the fence, take the leap, I think you will be very happy.

These are great. They take a few days to break in, but then are incredibly comfortable. Super sturdy. And they work with jeans or khakis in the office. They run about a 1/2 size larger, so size down.
