Be sure to understand the finish on this model. Honestly a little disappointed with the muted/matted finish of this shoe.

Shoes were shipped without a shoelace for the left shoe. And the right shoe had a major scratch in the leather (near heal). Second time that I've ordered on line, and both time inferior product was shipped. I've been buying Allen Edmonds for 25 years and your quality control is weak.

I own five pairs of AE's. They are well-built, sturdy, and stylish shoes. For some reason, the finish on this model came off of the cap toe when performing a light polish using a neutral crme, leaving behind a light bare area of unfinished leather. No other shoe I own has done this. I gave it two stars (instead of one), because the rest of the shoe is well built. Too bad - this style goes with a lot of combinations.

I purchased my first two pair of AE shoes (Strand - Walnut and McAllister - Black) on the same day in 2012 and was completely blown away by their comfort, quality and overall look. I get so many compliments on both of these. I had them both recrafted in 2016 and they look almost new once again.
There was no doubt that I needed to get another pair. I chose the 5th avenue cap toe in Chili. WHAT A LETDOWN!!! The fit was horrible, but I told myself to wear them a bit more and break them in. They never really conformed to my feet as well as my other AE shoes and although the 5th avenues sit in my closet most of the time, they look horrible. Scuffs everywhere and just not what I was expecting on my third pair of AE's. You haven't lost me as a lifetime
customer yet..I'll give you another chance soon. I'll worry if the next pair doesn't work out because how will I ever find quality to match AE's.

I got the Fifth Ave. as a Christmas present, my second pair of AE shoes. I've worn them about 20-25 times tops, and they have scuffs all over them. I've used AE's lotion and cleansing cream with little success. Also the soles get dinged on the edges very easily and begin to look bad.
I've been wearing leather shoes for a long time, so I know that scuffs and wear are to be expected, but these have not held up at all. Very disappointed.

This is the least comfortable pair of AE dress shoes I own. They are not finished very well and one shoe takes a shine while the other does not. I would not recommend this style of shoe.

First wear driving and toe on both shoes were easily and scratched and not really repairable with polish. Also bought a pair of Strands recently and have not had the same problem.

I always wanted to buy allen Edmond, because it being an American original. After, wearing the fifth Avenue only one time, I noticed some quality issues. The sole is tarnished and the color is gone. It looks like a very old shoe when looking at the sole. This is after one outing. I have tried cleaning it thinking it was dirt, but it didn't improve the look. I don't recommend these if you attend lot of meetings, because a dirty discolored sole looks bad when sitting at a table with one leg on the knee of the other.

These shoes are the most comfortable pair of dress shoes I've ever owned. However, the quality of the sole's construction is questionable. I own a number of AE shoes and rotate through them often so I only wear this particular shoe once, maybe twice per week at the most. Unfortunately, in less than a year, the rubber on the heel is starting to separate from the shoe. I wish I could say that this is a one-off incident, but this happened to another pair of AE shoes that I wear even less. After searching the internet, it appears others have had this problem as well. I have not had this problem with cheaper shoes that I wear more often. Considering the price and reputation of AE shoes, one would expect more quality work. I love the shoe and get a ton a compliments, but poor shoe construction keeps me from giving these shoes a 5/5.

I purchased a pair of park aves, LOVED THEM! everything about them was perfect. The fit, the looks, everything. I was an AE fanboy for a while, told every friend about them.
I loved them so much I returned within 2 weeks to buy a pair of 5th Aves. The SouthCoastPlaza/CostaMesa store was sold out of my unique size - 7eee, understandable. I was promised my shoes to be delivered to Chicago in 2 weeks. It didn't happen. I called and was told it should be here anyday. It took a month.
Once I finally got the box I was so excited I forgot how late it took for delivery; until I opened the box. One of the shoes, the quarter and where the eyelets go was soft and almost looked and felt soggy, unlike the rest of the supple shoe. It looked like a wavy water damaged book. If pointed toe to toe at one another, one shoe was significantly higher than another. The eyelets on one shoe was not parallel with the rest, the gaps between that eyelet was greatly different than the others. One of the shoe also had a larger than normal and uneven finish to the welt stitching. I was disappointed and brought it to the Chicago Michigan AE store, where I purchased my first pair of Park Aves. The store looked at it and I was promised a new pair in 4 weeks.
Today, I went to the store. Upon first glance the quarters of the shoe looked clean and nice. The leather was tight and did not seem to be damaged. I picked it up and inspected the shoe. It looked like someone pressed a machine on the toecap so hard there were dented imprints on the toecap. This was true for both shoes. I looked at my previous pair, and the toecap looked fine, but those soggy looking quarter pieces killed the shoe. If I could take the quarter of one shoe and put it on the other I would of walked out of the store with them. I simply could not have justified walking out with a defective shoe. I asked the store to return my order.
As a huge fan I totally understand the 212-step shoe making process is naturally imperfect, trust me- I've watched all the youtube videos and done a ton of research after my first pair of Park Aves. But the defects presented to me in the 2 pairs of 5th Aves were unacceptable. Something needs to happen in the QA dept of the materials, training of the craftsmen, and/or QA of the final product. I could only imagine how many shoes are returned annually from imperfections. Slowdown, take your time and produce the good quality shoe you guys know how to make.
If I could have a pair of flawless 5th Aves. I'd happily buy them.

I bought the chili fifth avenue in 6.5D back in October. There were some very serious defects. In fact the heel of one shoe is slanted so I can't even stand straight (I can rock back and forth on it)! I emailed Allen Edmonds customer service along with pictures of the defects more than a week ago and I have received no response so far. I am disappointed particularly because I do not live in North America and if I have to pay for shipping because of these defects, it will be a significant cost.
Overall, the right shoe has a rougher and less shiny vamp than the right. The right shoe has an uneven heel where part of it does not touch the ground. Both shoes have glue inside it. For the left shoe, there is a large gap between the insole and the vamp that is covered by the glue. The left shoe also has one edge of the heel cut off (which I understand is the way it is supposed to be), but the other edge has not been cut. For the right shoe, the edges that were cut off were not the same size. Both shoes also has a small piece of wood attached to the side of the sole (particularly the left shoe). These pieces of wood are loosely attached and could be accidentally ripped off, in which case the color these areas would look different from the rest of the soles.
So I was really looking forward to these shoes but there are numerous defects and to make it worse it's taking a long time for me to get a response from customer service.

I own a pair of walnut Park Avenues that I've worn about 5 days all day (about 9-12 hours). They are a 9 C and are my first pair of AE's. They fit almost perfect from the very beginning. After about the first day and a half, they were/are the ABSOLUTELY MOST COMFORTABLE dress shoes I have ever owned. I LOVE THEM.
Because of the joy and satisfaction, I followed soon after with a dark chili pair of Fifth Avenues. I have only worn them on carpet indoors (home). The very first thing I noticed was that there is very noticeable buckling and creasing around the outside ankles (the right side slightly more than the left). There is also at least 3/4 of an inch more space between the ankle and the leather than the Park Ave's. In addition, the leather is also much more soft and pliable/thin than the Park Ave's. I am somewhat disappointed with the difference in leather feel and drastic additional space that buckles around the ankles than the Park Ave's. I even wore one Park and one Fifth and then switched to see the difference and it is extremely noticeable. I'm wondering if the last for the Fifth Avenues is just somehow different or if the cut of the leather was just done wrong for the Fifth Avenues.
I am most likely returning them in hopes that they are just a bad batch.

I own three pairs of this shoe in different colors, as well as other AE shoes. I love the brand and quality.
The dark chili version that I purchased has strange looking 'buckles' in the leather around the ankle on the left foot, leaving up to a 1/2" gap on the outside and a vertical crease in the leather. None of the other pairs do this, nor does the right foot's shoe. It appears that the dark chili version of the shoe uses a different thinner/softer leather that is more flexible. Maybe this is a reason for the poor fit and creases on the left shoe, but i doubt it. Maybe i just received a bad egg. Unfortunately, because I normally trust the brand and version of the shoe, I threw these on and went right to a meeting, so now i can't return them.

I bought the shoe and when I received them I tried them on and they were absolutely comfortable. However, I looked at the shoes more closely and noticed that an entire stitching had come apart. Overall, the shoe looks good and feels comfortable, but they need to be made correctly.

I have 2 other pairs of AE shoes on the 5 last (McAllister and McGregor) that both fit perfectly and have worn very well. However, this pair (same size, same last) after only about a month, have loosen up around the ankle to now where there is significant ankle-bow on both shoes.
I don't think they have worn very well at all, I'm not sure if its the materials or construction but they need to be improved.

I purchased this shoe about six months ago. I made sure to take proper care, I only wear the shoes once a week, maybe twice some weeks. and heel on the left shoe is cracked along the seem and is starting to fall off. I own several pairs of Allen Edmonds and it has become a brand that I trust for quality but this product has seemed to fall apart after a short while. I make sure to take great care of my shoes and the fact that these are falling apart really disappoints me. I have come to expect high craftsman ship from this brand and this product has really let me down.

I purchased this shoe about a year and a half ago after trying it on in the store. The associate said that I should select a tighter fit and that the leather would stretch and soften to hug my foot like a glove. I have not been able to wear these shoes for a full day without a fair amount of pain. I will admit that I do not wear the shoes every day but at this point, I would think that they would have been broken in to be comfortable. It is a shame because I like the quality of the shoes but I do not know what if the problem is simply this shoe or if I should try any other size or model.

My normal size is 9D. This pair however is incredibly tight at the end of the eyelets near where the cap begins. Shoe tree have not helped and on the two occasions that I have worn them I have ended the day hobbling. Very disappointing considering that I bought these on the strength of my experience with the 3 pairs of AE shoes I had purchased earlier. Everybody, me included, love the looks; comfort is another matter.

These shoes are good looking with very soft leather. However, they bow out at the ankles so much that when I walk in them while wearing any suit, the bowing at the ankles protrude at least a quarter of an inch on both sides of the bottom of the pant legs (at the hem that is). They look like airplane wings! This makes these shoes look disgusting and cheap, and it makes me look as if I don't care about the way my clothes fit. I was so self-conscious while wearing these things. It really annoys me because after "investing" a few hundred dollars for these "hand-crafted" shoes, I had to go out and spend another few hundred on another pair that actually fit the way they are supposed to for such a price. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!!

Recently had to return a pair of 5th Avenue Brown 14D's. The lace holes on the left shoe were almost 45 degrees off from each other and I'm not sure what last they used for the shoes. I could not fit my right foot into the shoe it was pinched so severely in the middle of the shoe. I own approximately 20 pairs of A/E shoes and by reading the reviews and my own experiences, it appears that the quality is slipping. Needs to be fixed if they want to remain the "premier" manufacturer of American men's shoes.

If you purchase this shoe, be sure to wear it for a full 8 hours before you decide to keep it. If there is any fitting issues, they won't be prevalent for quite a while. Don't be like me, I figured that after wearing them for a couple hours around the house with no issues that they'd be fine, turns out that after around 6 hours wearing them they start to become too tight in a couple places. Unfortunately I had already worn them outside so it's too late to return them. Bah.

Disappointed, I've bought several pairs of various AE shoes in the past 3 months and 3 of then are developing cracks in the heels like the nails are letting loose. I'm not convinced of the handmaid quality...

Walked one block in NY from office to a food place in the new shoes and in that time the gravel on the sidewalk destroyed the heal. There are large holes in the bottom.

I wore these one time walked through the office parking lot and a little bit of gravel in the lot absolutely destroyed the heal of the shoe. Exact same thing happened in a completely different setting with the black pair. There's a crater divot in the heals and rocks actually got stuck and I had to pry them out. What a waste.
