I tried both the Clark and the Frye version of this boot, and the Clarks was more comfortable. I have a moderately high arch and a small bunion on one foot and these were simply the more comfortable shoe. The style is perfect for fall football games and other outdoor events.

I've been coveting a pair of Desert Boots for a while now, actually, since high school, when I saw some similar looking chukka boots in a catalog, but they were sold out in my size. I never ended up finding an alternative, but always had in the back of my mind that I'd get a pair someday. These Clarks boots look great with jeans, but will probably work well with a denim or corduroy skirt - I like the 70s vibe to them, and they are really comfy. There is no arch support, I have high arches and they would be perfect if they had some support, but that's not enough to make me not like these boots. The metallic bronze color is subtle, but a nice change from typical brown boots. I usually wear a size 7, but in Clarks, I generally buy a 7.5, because I do have wide feet, and Clarks tend to run true to width (meaning, a little too narrow for me).
I'd also recommend:

Very cool looking boot. The leather is thick and a little stiffer than I expected, but I like the look of it a lot. I'm a 7, but the 7's are too narrow, so I'm returning them. If you have narrow feet they might be fine, otherwise, I'd order up a 1/2 size. Also, there's no arch support, so if they're a little large you could add an arch insert. Good looking boot, but not the comfort level I was looking for.

Very cute boot, good value for the price, love the color and the texture of the leather (taupe distressed). Downside to this boot is that it is initially quite stiff and takes some breaking in before it becomes comfortable to wear. I wore for a few days with some thick-cuffed socks, because the top edge would dig into my ankle otherwise. They are gradually becoming comfortable, although not much arch support. Otherwise, a thumbs-up.

The style of these Desert Boots is cool and classic. They're not particularly comfortable though; no arch support and they rub my heel when I walk since they're not formed around the heel and ankle. Maybe I should have tried a smaller size, but I was able to fit a gel sole inside so I kept them. And as I said, they do look cool.

This boot is not suitable for people with a high instep. I was unable to fit my feet into these shoes with even the thinnest pair of socks on. I only barely made it in barefoot but since this is a shoe style that definitely needs socks, I had to return. My ratings refer to how the shoe fit after I got the foot into it (without sock).

Buy them a 1/2 size smaller than normal. I went into a store before buying these and the guy there told me to order them a half size smaller - I did and he was right! I thought they'd feel a bit softer, but I imagine they'll soften up soon enough. Kind of expensive though for such a basic shoe.

I thought the boots were really cute. They recommended that I purchase them in size 9.5 when I normally wear a 9. I don’t have wide feet, but the toe box was too narrow. I sent them back.

Nice boot, but I didn’t notice they were a B width, I guess that is why such a good price. I had to send them back. Zappos return policy made my mistake a little better to handle.

My old desert boots are so comfortable. The top of these boots are lined with a synthetic material that doesn't give at all. Hurts!

I love Clarks and have worn their desert boots and other styles in the past. I was so excited to find these in what is an exceptionally beautiful emerald green! However, they feel way smaller than any Clarks I have worn previously. I don't know if the manufacturer or last has changed, but the fit is small and uncomfortable when it used to be great.

I have a pair of Clark’s desert boots that took some breaking in. I’ve had them approximately 2 years. I’ve wanted another pair for awhile and perhaps had I bought the second pair at the same time as my first the fit and quality would have been better. I’m so very disappointed in the quality and fit of these new pair of black suede boots. I have flat feet but a high instep. I managed to get my right foot into one boot and that was with nylon knee high stockings. I couldn’t even get my left foot in the other shoe at all. What in world is going on with Clark’s that call themselves the original desert boot. I read some of the other reviews after I’d purchased and tried these on. These are the worst in fit and the quality of the material wasn’t good compared to my previous pair. They aren’t cut properly. It’s ridiculous!!!!! The length is correct for the size 10 if I could get my other foot in the shoe. Cute shoe but HORRIBLE fit ....actually none fit!!!!! What the hell!!!!!! Would not recommend and am returning.

I wear size 5, so I have teenie feet. My last Clarks are size 5 and they fit fine; however, I could not even get my foot inside these boots! The style is really attractive and it seemed like they were good quality. I opted not to try another size because it's a hassle and the fit was just so far off.

There just isn't any support. I also thought the wine color would be more maroon. They ended up being more purple than I like. Thanks Zappos for your awesome return policy!

These are such a classic bootie and I was excited to replace an old pair whose sole had worn out. Sadly, the newest version of these had leather so stiff I couldn’t walk in them. Back they went.

These shoes appear to be very well made. I wish I could have kept them, but they are cut very narrowly across the instep and were impossible to get my foot into. Bummer.

I like the look of these shoes, but I am surprised to say that they are not that great. I got these in the taupe color. The shoe laces in my opinion seem flimsy and cheap. Although there is some 'padding' in the sole, it is stiff and although not uncomfortable, not comfortable in comparison to Clarks' other shoes...and there is no arch support. Also, you need to wear thick and longer socks, or the back of the shoe will rub onto your ankle and make it raw. The shoe itself seems to run true to size...maybe a half size larger (I have wide feet so it is hard to tell).

Great looking shoe (in black suede) for jeans and leggings, but I was looking for a shoe I could walk a mile or two or three in, mostly around cities and airports. This isn't it. Thin, squishy, totally flat sole offers no support or protection - sole is more like a heavier slipper than a "boot." I wear a 10M pretty reliably, but found these tight just above the toes, and a bit short. I'm guessing they would have stretched out and fit okay after wearing awhile - they seemed to soften up even in just an hour or so of wearing around the house. I returned them to find something more substantial for walking.

Nice boots but the toe box is indeed narrow as well as shallow as another reviewer commented. My 3rd and 4th toe touch the sides though lenghtwise it's my correct size. One size up would be too big so unfortunately I'm returning this.

I wear an 8 medium, but these boots are way to big in the heel area they keep slipping up and down, so I'm returning mind. They are nicely made leather and sole are great.

This shoe is far too stiff for me to be able to wear. The high profile hurts my ankles, and appears to have no "give".

It's a struggle to get into these shoes! There's simply not enough space from the bottom of the footbed over the foot. I love the look and the style. Once my foot was in it, the width and length felt fine, but they would have been terrible to walk in . On a side note, I received a pair of shoes where the right shoe had clearly been repeatedly tried on. It had crease marks on it. The left one was untouched. The box was also pretty beat up. This reminded me of a pair of sample shoes, only they weren't on sale. I don't expect Zappos to send shoes that are returns, especially when they are so obviously used, on a full price sale. I returned them.

This shoe is definitely not a comfort shoe. The inside sole is hard with no cushioning. As others stated there is no arch support and it is cut pretty narrow. My daughter has the Hushpuppy Chukka and it feels so much better-plus has cute tassels on the laces. I'll be returning these.

Love them, but falling apart. Warning - I love these shoes. I am sort of obsessed with them, which is why this is so sad. I don't even know what I should do about this problem. Anyway, I have had mine about 8 weeks, and the stitching is coming so loose in the front of the shoe that the upper is separating from the sole. There is actually a big space there now where sand, water, etc., can get in. I thought they were going to be really high quality, but this is a big problem. I didn't do anything but wear them and walk around - nothing extreme. I'm so disappointed.
