The color "Hawk" is a mixture of colors, mostly brown. The leather upper is brown with tan tabs. The rubber is dark charcoal with lighter charcoal on bottom edge of leather. So "hawk" pretty much sums up the color! "Black" is black and "Shale" is various shades of grey. It's a sturdy, heavier boot. Good for cold, wet weather (and ice rinks).

Love the look, very stylish and practical for weather. Being short, they are a little tall and were a little tight around calves since my calves are shorter than most.

I love the look of these boots and trust the Sorel brand. I got them in Shale and love the color. Very comfortable. I bought a pair of Sorel Caribou inserts because I wanted to wear them without the fur trim. I usually wear a 6.5 but got the 6 and they fit perfect. They look and feel a lot more expensive than they are.

I love these boots! The color and fit are great, though they do run a bit big. The pink soles and matching stitching are so cute!

Beautiful, warm boot! But beware! Most of the reviews say it runs small. I'm a 7 1/2 so I ordered a 7. Too tight! So I ordered an 8 and it was perfect! But you'll love the boot! High quality and stylish!

I never write reviews but I am so pleased with the service and these boots that I must. So glad I read the customer reviews and ordered a full size smaller than I usually wear. They fit perfectly and are adorable. Ordered them after midnight yesterday and got them today- can't beat that!

I ordered these boots yesterday and received them today. I am very pleased that I read the reviews and ordered one size down. I am normally a 9, but I ordered an 8 and they fit perfect, with just a little room left over for a thick sock. When I wore them around for a while after getting them, my feet were sweating. But guess that's a good sign for when I take em to the mountain snow! I am very happy with my purchase!

I'm really bummed! I read all the reviews and ordered a 1/2 small, but they don't fit. I should have ordered true to size. Other than that, they're beautiful and I can't wait to get a pair that actually fits. Sorel makes an amazing boot. This will be my second pair - in a totally different style.

These boots are awesome! I didn't read the reviews before I bought them and I'm glad. I usually wear 7 1/2 or 8 size boots so I ordered an 8 in these boots, and the size 8's fit me perfectly. I tried them on with various clothes last night - skirt & tights, leggings, skinny jeans and these boots look awesome with all of the above! My only complaint is that I live in Virginia and now I have to wait for it to snow.

Got these in the Shale which I love, hard to find this type of boot in gray and this one is a great shade. The shaft is a slightly brownish charcoal and the trim is medium gray. The boots are super well-made, comfy and supportive footbed, warm and cozy, practical, and... stylish? I don't know if you can call a snow boot stylish, but these are the cutest I've seen. Based on reviews I ordered down a size, 10 instead of my usual 10.5 or 11, and they're perfect. As usual, incredible service from Zappos, ordered late on a Thursday night and received early Saturday morning.

These are my first pair of Sorel boots ever and I am in love! Since I couldn't find them in any store around I read as many reviews as I could so I knew what I should expect. I was a little wary of all the comments about the boot running really large and to order a size down, I already wear a size 5 so there's no ordering smaller! Thankfully they fit like a glove, not too big not too small. I'm sure I'll be hating myself in a couple months for saying this, but I'm really excited for the snow this year just to wear these puppies!

These boots are great but with one major problem (keep reading). I have to say first that I love the look of Sorels. They are cute, sexy, go with many different outfits, and I get lots of compliments on them, which is always nice. I bought them so I could trudge along on the snowy sidewalks of the Bronx where I live, and keep my feet warm and dry. Dry? Mission accomplished! Warm? I am sorry to say that my toes are always cold when I wear these boots. Even with warm wool socks on, and even when it's 35 degrees F outside (the boots came with an alleged temp rating of -25 deg. F), my toes are consistently cold. Other than that, I find the boots very comfortable and cozy. It took a few wearings to break them in, but now I would say they are as comfy as slippers...except when my toes are cold! Would I buy these boots again knowing my toes would be cold? Probably not. But am I happy I own them since they are super cute? Yes! I'm going to look into some sort of insulation or boot liners I could use to augment the warmth. Or maybe two pairs of socks? One other problem is the decorative leather straps that go over the faux fur and snap to the boot. One of the snaps broke right after I bought them. I thought about exchanging for a new pair, but instead used gorilla glue to fix the snaps in place, which worked great.

I have been eying this boot for about a year, and waiting for it to come back into stock! Finally, it has! I called all over Boston last year asking for it and it was nowhere to be found. Then this year it popped up on Zappos and I grabbed it as soon as I saw it! As a size 8 shoe, I ordered the 8 boot in color black and it fits with about a half inch to 3/4 inch of room at the top without a sock on. I think this will be great because I will likely want thick socks on in the winter, and I am glad I didn't go with a 7.5. I sometimes wear a 7.5 in shoes, too so I was really hesitating between what size to order. Reviews on here said the boot tends to run big, but I ordered the 8 and it was a tad big but you have to account for wearing socks and leave a little room. First, know that this boot in black is very, very black. It contrasts beautifully with the fur at the top, but know that it's one dark boot. You definitely want to be a fan of fur if you're buying this boot. Big time-or look at this same boot but the "knit" version. I called and spoke with the Zappos representative and the knit boot isn't as well-made when you look down hard at the specifics (which I really did when I debated between the fur and knit versions) apparently the knit version of the Joan of Arctic has less of a thick sole so there is more of a chance of it leaking water, etc. It's not quite as high quality for the same price, but the look is drastically different because it doesn't have the fur. Word of advice-you can find replacement liners for these exact Joan of Arctic boots on Sorel.com as well as Amazon.com, if you just type in the exact name of the boot. I would get them off Sorel.com directly. Other reviews warn not to put the liners in the dryer or it ruins the fur, and also to be cautious not to put the boots to close to heaters or the fur will melt. I will be careful with mine! I do wish Zappos offered the "knit" liner as a separate option to buy so they could be switched out with the fur as desired. Cough cough. I have had Sorels in the past and they last for years and years. They don't ever really "run out," you more just "hand them down" to someone. Hope this review is helpful!

I really wanted to love these. I am still very conflicted about them though. I wear a size 10 and that usually is always right no matter what shoe I ordered. Due to previous reviews about narrowness, etc. I decided to order 10.5 and realized this was a mistake. If you have wide feet, order up, but if your feet are narrow to average, then you should definitely order your normal size. I will have to wear two pairs of thick socks for these to really fit snugly. I'm on the fence with these because they are just super cute. When you have to be bundled up and want to be fashionable and warm these really excel in that category. Even my husband commented on how cute these were. But they are a bit clunky, and after some walking around the house my feet did feel a little tired. If you tie these up tightly it will definitely impede your ability to walk because your Achilles tendons aren't able to flex/bend. I also found these to be uncomfortable to drive in. That's because of the aforementioned ability to flex the foot up and down so it made putting my foot down on the brake, accelerator a little awkward. I am trying to decide if I am okay with wearing one pair of shoes while driving and another while walking in the snow. For every con I think of there is a pro like these boots do keep your feet extremely warm & dry. So, I am debating and will probably end up keeping them because they're super cute & they do the job I want them to (keep my feet dry & warm and without slipping and sliding in snow).

I really like these. I actually just got to use them for the first time yesterday. They're super cute, comfy and warm. My only issue is when I take my foot out of them, and the liner comes out (which makes sense for when I get sick of the fur, but) it is a pain to get it back in. Maybe I am just doing something wrong!?

So cute and sassy for a bulky Sorel. Yes, they still are bulky; yes, they are so warm. For an around the town boot they are a bit much, but for super cold snowy days these are queen!

I bought these boots for my daughter who goes to school upstate NY. She wears them whenever it snows... often! and now cannot complain she cannot go out to class. I think she likes them a lot since she told me her friends have copied her with the same boots... :) (I gave it 4 stars because she doesn't wear them unless there is 5-6 inches of snow on the ground.)

I wanted to love these boots, really I did. They are super cute but they are also very bulky and for me they are awkward to walk in. They also weigh a lot. I opted to try the Snowfling by Kamik instead. It is shorter and smaller but also has the rubber footbed.

Totally cute, waterproof and warm! The boots are attractive, and practical. I found that they can be a bit stiff, though, and not so easy to slip on and off. These are functional boots that can be tightened by pulling the laces. If you don'tloosen the laces, it's tough to remove the boot from your foot without a fight.

The boots are stylish, a bit bulky, and very thin in the ankle which makes taking the boot on and off a little time consuming. Otherwise, I played in the snow for about an hour, and my feet were warm and dry. Zappos: always does a fantastic job -- boots arrived ahead of schedule.

These are a true snow boot, hefty and sturdy, a little too much so for what I am looking for. I ordered two pairs of Sorels and compared to the Tofino that I ended up going with, the weight was immense. 2 pounds after the liner, suede upper, and thick rubber sole. Due to the chunky footbed, it rubbed on my ankle as well so be careful about that.

I needed a size larger because I have a high arch so now I just wear socks! My girlfriend bought a size larger because she likes to wear socks! They are rubber and do not stretch like leather. Enjoy!

My husband bought me these boots for Xmas, and they looked fantastic. But I had to return them because I have a short ankles and the fortified rubber on the base of the boot was scraping at my Achilles tendon -- and this was just a dry run walking around the condo. I couldn't imagine trekking around the city in them. Plus, they felt really heavy on my feet. I was very disappointed, because they're super cute!

I was very excited to receive these boots less than 24 hours after I ordered them from Zappos. I live in Chicago, and we have long, cold, slushy winters. I wear size 8 or 8 1/2 and ordered size 8 and the boots fit true to size without any issues. The day of the first big snow I was able to keep my feet warm and dry while shoveling, which is a first. I also wore them indoors for a hockey game and stood for 2.5 hour with moderate comfort. My only complaint is that the right boot is bending inward when I walk and rubbing on my Achilles tendon on the back of my heel. The left one does not bend inward to the degree that it causes discomfort. I'm going to wear them a few more times to try to break them in, hopefully when the leather softens up it won't be as painful.

Overall, if you need a winter boot to keep you warm and dry and totally fashionable, this is the boot for you. They're a little on the heavy side, and they tend to slip a tad when I'm walking, but I counteract that by wearing thicker socks with them. A great buy though, I don't regret it!
