I did have to break them in, but it wasn't bad. And yes, like most other reviews, they do run a little big. I just wear a 2nd pair of socks with them. So order a half size down (I didn't) or plan on thick socks (or two pair). Otherwise, it is love!

Bought my pair back in 2012 and I am still wearing them proudly today. I am an insurance field adjuster in the mountains of NC so these boots have been exposed to every kind of weather from the ground to the roofs of countless houses and barns. I've not experienced the problem people are mentioning in other reviews about the heel separating from the boot and I am extremely flat footed and very hard on shoes. So if there is a problem with a shoe, I will find it. These are great boots that will last you a loooong time.

Great boot minus the heel separating. I have had these boots for several years now, and that is the only issue. A little super glue seems to have solved the heel issue for now. It is still a shame that Docs are now made outside of the UK. The other thing I dislike about the "new" Docs is the new tread pattern.I would still recommend buying these, just keep super glue handy if you wear them a lot.

Zappos has the most amazing customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. The staff is helpful and effective as well as very easy to talk with. I recommend Zappos for any purchase. I will always shop with Zappos!!

Great stylish boots nice leather comfortable, great with jeans or whatever else tickles your fancy. I must say, I gotta give em two thumbs up!

This is my favorite Dr. Martens style, hands down. I own eight pairs of Dr. Martens, a couple pairs costing much more than my Peirs, but I wear the Piers so much that I not only bought them in black, but I then bought a second set of them.

Love these boots. So comfortable and they look awesome! For you wider feet people you'll love the way these feel. Also, can't say enough about Zappos superb customer service! They blow the competition out of the water! I recommend them to everyone I know!

Felt great the first time I wore them and would consider them pretty true to size (for me). I look for comfort after four foot surgeries and this definitely are comfortable!

I love the fit and feel of these boots. No breakneck whatsoever. My only complaint, which is minimal, the lowest hook eyes are a little bit high, but not a big negative. The leather is good 'ol soft Dr. Martens quality. Very comfortable to walk in.

This is a great boot. I have trouble with my knees and this boot helps a lot. Seems to be well made and looks like new after 2 months of wearing. I found them comfortable from the first wearing with no break-in time needed. Though I'm a size 9 1/2, I found the US size 10 to be perfect. It also works well with thick socks. I'm completely satisfied and plan to buy another pair of Dr. Marten's in brown.

Bought these for riding my motorcycle - perfect. I just wish the sole was a little thicker. Because I'm short.

If a man could only own one pair of boots, these might be it! My husband bought one pair a year ago and has loved them so much he bought a second pair in case they were ever discontinued. They are well made and super comfortable. Even though he usually orders a wide, these fit very well. He always gets compliments on them. The longer he wears them, the better they get.

They fit better than the typical Dr. Martens, they are softer and more comfortable. So if you need a change, this is a good pair if boots. For the first time in my life I wore new boots 10 hours a day from day 1 without any pain, blisters, or stuff like that.

I love the looks and feel of these boots. I haven't taken a long hike in them yet but as they give good support I expect much. The serious look of these boots gives me a edge and I feel awesome in them. Rock on!

I really like the look of this shoe and its multipurpose style was what I wanted. The size (11) was the right fit to accommodate thick socks. I was very satisfied with the shoe. I think the brown looks better than the black, but I have a thing for brown.

These are great work boots! I got them because I was looking for durability, skid resistant, and support. I found it all in this boot. It's wider than I thought it would be, but that is great for me as I have foot issues and need a nice wide toe box. I have plenty of room and can wear a nice thick sock too.

I purchased a pair of these in May 2013. The boots lasted over two years with heavy use until now, July 2015. This was my only pair of shoes, and has survived field work, chemical spills, and harsh treatment. The reason for replacement at this time is due to the sole finally tearing near the arch, exposing the leather. The good: The shoe was tough, and quite comfortable. As this is my only shoe, it wore it to somewhat formal occasions (well shined of course), and the style made it work in those situations. Survived concentrated nitric acid spill, kept toes safe. The bad: The laces are terrible. They gave way very early, and I replaced them with something much stronger. The heel broke off of each shoe around the same time in the first year. It was an easy repair, but it supports what some people say about the lower quality of Doc Martens from China. Late in year 2, the fabric liner around the heel split completely. There had been holes in it for some time, but this split was total. There was no good way to repair it, and it made the shoes slightly less comfortable to wear during this period.

Is a great boot, stylistically, essentially no break in period. I am on my second pair (thank you Zappos for the awesome customer service due to a defect) because the first pair's heel came unglued, it is not stitched too, like the front portion of the heel. Am curious to see how this pair holds up since it was made two years after the first pair. So the real verdict is out although I did notice the front corner of the heel was not properly affixed, due to my expectations. Part of the issue is it is glued to the leather upper only the leather is soft, porous and not he best medium for affixing the sole with the addition of stitching or a better glue. Time will tell with pair two, so the verdict is out and why I gave the overall rating of a 4.

I purchased these at a local retailer after searching for a nice pair of boots that had a little more detail. Born, Ecco, Columbia, etc. seem to have gone the other direction in style and fit. (My opinion. I have owned all at one point or another.) These boots were comfortable right out of the box, and I liked them enough to buy both brown and black pairs. After wearing them for a few days, I discovered that the heel had an annoying squeak and was very weak. Pushing on them with my thumb, it seemed as if there was a void in the material. I went to other retailers to check the Pier's that they had in stock and discovered that this was pretty normal across the board, so it wasn't that I had picked up a defective pair of shoes. It is more of a manufacturing issue. I loved the boots, so rather than returning them, I took both pairs to the local shoe repair and had them cut of the nice new original heels and put on some solid boot heels for minimal cost. I wear them every day with the new heels, without any issues. Hopefully Dr. Martens will fix this issue on future designs. I am planning on buying more Dr. Marten's, but will not buy any with the same soles as the Pier boots have. Any that I plan on buying will have the original type Dr. Marten's soles.

Awesome looking shoe...got the wrong size and it was missing one of the lace eyes. Look forward to getting the correct size.
