True to size; sticks to the pedals like glue.

After riding clipless pedals for several years, I really wanted go back to flats. These shoes when paired with a good set of pedals make for a great experience on the trails when I'm biking. While the shoes wouldn't be good for hiking or walking long distances, they are great for biking and the occasional need to stop in a gas station, etc.

I was torn between these and the TLD Freerider Pro. Both are comfortable right out of the box. I was thinking long term with the suede material vs. the Pro that are more water resistant. These have the same sole and they are very grippy! I couldn’t believe the difference between the Stealth sole and my Giro Jacket II! Night and day, IMO. I stayed away from the hype of Five Tens but I guess there’s a reason why they are so popular! Made me a believer!

Definitely a half-size smaller and if you wear really thick socks, even a full-size smaller. I had to send my back my first order (thanks Zappos!) and order a 1/2 size larger. I have been using the Terrex Trail Cross by Adidas which also has the stealth rubber and comparing the two, the Freerider definitely has more grip. Both have a stiff sole and and requires some break in period to feel a lot more flexible. I have been alternating these two shoes depending on the whether the ground/trail is wet or dry since the Adidas is more water and dirt resistant and much easier to clean. The only thing I really don't like about the Freerider is the shoe laces which are unnecessary long. I had to actually cut mine shorter because is just flaps around even though I have knotted it twice already and there was once instance it got caught on my pedal spikes. I wish FiveTen can either shorten the laces a little bit or put a "bungee strap" on the tongue just like the Trail Cross has.

I ordered one size larger after reading the reviews. The shoes fit in length but are snug in width. They are still nice shoes, though.

First have to PRAISE the customer service team - I ordered size 11 but they were a bit too snug. Called about 4pm on Tues and had a size 11.5 on Wed at 5pm!!!
The new size fit perfectly, and after a couple of rides I’m amazed at how well these work on flat pedals. No slipping at all - even wet!
A Velcro flap over the laces would be nice - but I think that’s only on the more expensive model.

Fits well. Sticks to platform pedals pretty well. Laces are WAY too long. Look kind of goofy. No arch support.

I have approx. 30 miles on them so far and coupled with my Spank Oozy pedals feel good. This is my first pair of 5/10s and my first flat pedal/flat sole shoe while Mtn. biking. I have been riding SPDs for 10 years and thought I'd give flats a try. So far the shoes feel sturdy. They inner mesh is now a bit discolored from my sweat, no big deal as I bought them to ride, not hang out in. I went with a size 11 as the 10.5 felt too narrow.

I have been riding SPD type shoes/pedals since 1997. Seemed like I have been constantly adjusting cleats to avoid hot feet & knee pain. The last few years SPD shoes became more uncomfortable. Made the jump back to flat pedals with Fyxation straps along with Freeriders. Wished I would have never used SPD style shoes. Stiffness of shoes is appropriate. Walking in these shoes is not the most comfortable but they are a "biking" shoe. I ordered a size 9, for size reference I wear a 10 in Brooks running shoes and a 42 in Ecco dress shoes.

I ordered these shoes on Saturday and I got them delivered on Monday, very fast and efficient shipping and handling. This is my second time buying on Zappos. The first time, I had to return the shoes because they did not fit (wrong size) and Zappos was surprisingly efficient in their return policy (shipping and handling) and in sending me the shoes that I ordered after the first transaction. On the other hand, these shoes are extremely comfortable, they feel very light and the color combination is easy to combine with any casual clothing for everyday use.

Very well made shoe, true to size, incredibly grippy sole...sticks to platform pedals like glue. Somewhat stiffer than what I'm used to, but has better power transfer to the pedal. It just lessens the feel of the pedal a bit. Do yourself a favor and switch out the massive, flat, gray (1985 Fat Boy) laces to black, sport laces immediately.

Don't get em wet! They will shrink 1/2 size. That said, it's an inexpensive way to get the premium sticky sole. But, the freerider pro is so much better than this shoe. This is still a good shoe, but don't fall in love.

Shoes are extremely creaky/squeaky when walking. Not sure if they just need to be broken in.

Love the style and look as well as the confort. Outstanding. But the "Stealth" rubber on the bottom is anything but stealthy. It's ridiculously slippery. So muchs o that I almost fell and busted by butt in the grocery store. These are not for walking around. Guess they'll be ok on a platform pedal with spikey bits to get a grip with.

The shoes look nice, but unfortunately they are very tight (painfully so) over the top of the foot at the lower metatarsal area. I've never before encountered this with any shoe of any kind. Completely loosening the laces does not help because the tight area is at the base of the lace area just past the laces. I wanted to like them, but holy ouch! Had to send them back. Otherwise they felt true to size. A person would have to have very shallow feet to be comfortable. I've never heard such a complaint before. Maybe it was a defective pair. weird

Clownish. Padding everywhere. The wide laces don’t really tighten well but do serve the “look” of the shoe. Tons of toe box room. The supporting sole is so wide I make a Squeak squeak on every pedal stroke so I had to shift my shoes out further on the pedals. Not the easiest thing to do. Not very much stiffness in the sole which is what I was after, no padding on the insole and with the wide toe box and useless laces my feet were a bit sore after the first ride. I was better off with my old Vans than wasting my money on these.

I initially ordered a half size up from my normal size, found them to be too small. I returned them for the next half size up and they were still too small. The toe box is quite narrow and there really isn't any support in these shoes. The second pair is going back and I'm not going to try again with these. Too bad because visually, they're exactly what I was looking for!

I loved Adidas shoes, especially when they are on special sales. I've bought quite a lot and keep them.
However, the Five Ten Freerider shoes are way below my expectations. They are rough, thinly supported and apparent low quality.
They are not worth at the sale price, let alone at the original price which is more than double. Unfortunately, I have to return them.

I bought a pair of free riders years ago and they are great. Flexible and stick to the pedals like glue (Canfield Crampons). I recently bought a pair of Freeriders Pro, they are awful, a stiff shoe and the soles skate around the pins as if they aren't there, thinking the basic Freerider would be better, I bought this pair- big mistake, same problem. I have no confidence riding with these. I don't know what Adidas has done but I will not waste any more money on this product.
