Footwear doesn't really inspire legends, but these shoes need to be recognized. I've been wearing a pair of these for over a year, and they still haven't fallen apart; they're the first shoe in about ten years to hold that distinction. They've been to the beaches of San Diego, the banks of the Missouri and the buttes of the Dakota badlands; they've trodden the streets of Seattle, DC, and Seoul, among others. They've been up to the mountains and through deeps snows. They've even seen a fair share of martial arts practice sessions. On top of that, they look good enough to wear at "dress casual" functions, but don't look entirely out of place at punk rock concerts. These shoes are worth every cent I paid for them...but be warned, you may have to replace the laces if you wear them hard! I hope the 1521s can live up to the legacy of the 1520s. Strong recommendation, 5 stars, very satisfied. And of course, props to Zappos for being a great online re-seller.

I've been a New Balance fanboy for about 10 years now. This shoe, by far, has been the best one I've had. I have very flat feet. It took 3 tries to find the perfect fit. Unlike many others have mentioned, the sizes seemed to run larger than marked. But, I agree with the other reviewers to order a wider width than you normally do.

These are great shoes! comfort right out of the box. Stability, and support without the weight of boots. Easier on my Achilles tendon, which is why I bought them.

Great shoe, but one needs to order a 1/2 size larger than usual. This more than likely because of the heel padding, but never the less an issue.

I didn't know New Balance made a shoe of this quality. I have a very wide foot so New Balance is a brand I look at. This specific shoe has a Vibram sole and a Gore-tex liner and holds up well in aggressive Arizona terrain. The shoe is comfortable and the 4E width is indeed extra wide.

True to size. I have wide feet and these fit great as well as looking sporty and not too old man-ish.

This is the second pair of New Balance MO1520 I have purchased. It is a very good shoe. The Vibram sole really adds to the quality of it and the Gore Tex is another good plus. I wrote that it felt true to size, but didn't want to confuse anyone. I normally wear a 11 but have found that in New Balance I always wear 11.5 if that helps. I always need a 1/2 size larger. I'm quite surprised by anybody giving this shoe less than 4 stars. I reserve 5 stars for perfect and this shoe is perfect. Like any shoe, the life will depend on the quality of the shoe and frequency of use. I wear these approximately 5 days a week, am on my feet a lot and I've gotten 6 months out of them. They still "feel" good, no tears, no compromises except that they are fading from exterior use, thus my desire to have another pair that look new, with a second pair to abuse outdoors. Buy this shoe and be happy.

I've really been enjoying these shoes. I have very wide, flat feet, and New Balance's 4x width shoes are very accommodating and comfortable. I also live in a cold climate, and these shoes have proven to be warm and cozy even in wet conditions. Plus, they've given me superpowers. Pow! Kazam!

I tend to be a brand loyalist. New Balance is my brand of choice for athletic shoes. When my boyfriend kept complaining about his Nike & Merrell shoes hurting his feet I decided to order him some New Balance. So to quote him "I now have happy feet." As I always say your feet are your foundation, you have to have a structurally sound foundation or the building (your body) will come tumbling down. So these are good shoes, New Balance has never proven me wrong and hope they never do. And Zappos always rocks, no matter what shoe or brand I buy.

Coolest shoes I've ever had. Most comfortable. It covers feet perfectly. Keep warm and dry - that much as I expected. Recommended size fits 100%. Very glad here to own it.

Aside from the fact that these shoes are the colors (and letter) of my high school, I love them! I hiked a 6 miler the first day on the trails with them, and I couldn't have been much happier. I bought them to replace a pair of Merrells that were profoundly disappointing. But these have proven stellar! I've got one foot that's a 12D and the other is an 11.5B, and I have very low arches. So it's always entertaining to see how shoes are going to fit. I've blown a fortune on boots only to find that they're great on flats, but turn into "Cruel Shoes" on hills. These have proven to be worth the hours I spent scouring the offerings on line. Thanks again to New Balance and Zappos!

If you should have the misfortune to foot surgery, only to find that the surgeon did not fix, but rather exacerbated the problem, Zappos & New Balance will become your best friend. I used to wear a normal size 11 D shoe. Now, due to my failed surgeries, I wear a 12 or 13 extra wide.This limits your shoe selection to a few companies that stock "wide" sizes. New Balance has always offered many styles in wide sizes. Some manufacturers who purport to carry wide sizes, will offer "walking" shoes with the Velcro straps. That's okay for Grandpa, but I have a few years left before I move to a retirement community. There are even fewer retailers who carry the wide sizes, even if the manufacturer makes them. That is where Zappos comes to the rescue. They carry the entire line of New Balance shoes (or at least a majority of the styles). And now, New Balance is making a shoe that looks very much at home while on a trail. No one makes a wide, hiking shoe. That is not counting Grandpa's.

I purchased the New Balance MO1520 shoes for short day hikes and over night backpacking trips. I have another pair of New Balance shoes that I use for multi-day backpacking trips that have been amazing. Based on my experience with those shoes, I bought the MO1520s. These are great shoes. They are light weight, well made, have great soles. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. I also have the problem of having size 15 feet. New Balance is one of the few companies that carries my size. Thanks.

Recently bought the NB M01520 shoe/sneaker. It’s waterproof and extremely comfortable. Wore it in the recent snow/rain we’ve been having, and it is truly waterproof and it grips well in the snow. It’s true to size and as comfortable, if not more, than shoes costing 3X as much. I highly recommend and would buy them again.

Had these for a few weeks, I have very wide feet and needed sturdy shoes for yardwork. Gave these a serious workout and I am very pleased. Well made.

This shoe is great. It is wide and Gore-Tex, two things that are hard to find for some reason. The shoe is comfortable and has held up great outdoors.

At last a 12.5 from New Balance - I had to stop wearing New Balance shoes because a 12 was too small and a 13 was too big. Now they have a 12.5 which is just right. After walking over forty miles in these shoes, I have no sore spots on either foot.The heel cushion does its job and then some.Thanks New Balance for making a 12.5 shoe. ZAPPOS service is tops as always.
