I had high hopes for these boots. They fit okay in the store, so I bought them. They turned out to be larger than what I was used to (I bought the same size as a different brand of boot I had before) and my foot slipped around inside the boot. They also weren't as supportive as what I was used to, especially in the arch. I have a bad toe joint and need good arch support, and I even wore these with custom orthotics. Also, the front of the boots caves in when you hit them on a rock or something, and then you have to take off the boot and pop out the hard plastic so it doesn't press against your toes the entire hike, and even then it doesn't pop out all the way, which is annoying. I did like how they were both breathable and waterproof, though.

Good hiking boot, not made for winter. I really wanted to love these boots after all the great reviews. Out of the box, they were comfortable and relatively attractive. They were also warm, maybe a bit too warm (ventilation didn't seem great). The reason I had to return them though, is that the tread is terrible. On wet, not even snowy sidewalks, I was slipping all over the place. Kind of a deal-breaker for me.

Felt good, looked good but didn't sound good. Left boot made a popping sound when the toe was flexed. Had to return the next day.

Purchased for my hubby; I had high hopes for this shoe but it was way too small and not wide enough. I can't be honest with the overall comfort because it didn't fit...better luck next time I hope!

The size was ok but the sole of the boot was did not have enough cushioning. It felt like I was walking on stones. Perhaps I was feeling the boot's tread.

I chose my size based on the measurement guide. My foot measures 25 cm and I'm a size 8. That's no surprise. The problem is that the boots are smaller and narrower. The materials are also hard and literally hurt your foot. I don't recommend them. I gave it two stars because the color is pretty. That's the only thing I appreciate about it.

My first pair I bought 18 years ago and they lasted 8 years without any care at all. Every pair after that I'm lucky to get a year out of them. My latest pair was the worst with lots of loose grain that creases in a very uncomfortable way. Awful quality at this point and will be my last pair .

I have an older pair of Timberlands that I still wear to do yardwork. Unfortunately, it appears the foreign manufacturers of Timberland have gotten into cost cutting too much. There's simply not enough material in the boot to make it sized the way it should be. I ordered a 12EE, and it doesnseem to be any wider than a regular size.
As other reviews have mentioned, unless you have toothpicks for ankles, the boot cuff does not wrap around the ankle far enough to even cover the edges of the tongue. Even with socks on that weren't overly thick, there were gaps between the sides of the tongue and the top of the boots where they lace up. Also, the shoelaces are too short to tie securely if you lace them up all the way. It may seem petty, but even the pull-on loop on the back of the boots is flimsier and cheaper than it used to be. It's barely big enough to get your finger into to pull the boots on. I could also feel the hard bottoms inside through the cheap insoles. These boots might be fine if you're a very light weight person with VERY skinny ankles, but for the average person, I could not recommend. Sending them back right after I tried them on.

Very disappointed in the design of these boots. Unless you have sticks for ankles, the boot cuff does not wrap around the ankle far enough to even cover the edges of the tongue, and the shoelaces are too short to tie securely. They were returned.

This is the third or fourth pair of this particular boot that I have owned and size 11 was always an excennent fit. These were made too small and too narrow. I will be returning these and not re-ordering another pair as I don't want to repeat the hassle of poorly fitting boots.

I would give this shoe five stars but the 2nd time I ever wore them one of the metal grooves around the ankle for shoe laces broke off. Now I can't tie one of them very tightly.

They were very comfortable boots. They lasted a year and a half of mostly light use. I didn't use them for landscaping or construction work. Mostly, I walked in them on paved roads when it rained or snow. Now, the soles are falling apart, and water seems to be coming in from the bottom. I usually wear running shoes. The soles on my running shoes have lasted longer than the soles on these boots. I think the black rubber sole on these boots must be disintegrating on their own. I'm disappointed.

Fit and size were good, but the boot was really stiff of it causing pain when I walked and where it bends where your ankle makes a right angle into your foot. You can tell the leather was a cheaper grade, and I didn't know how well they would break in so I returned them.

Great shoes, great fit but unfortunately the soles come off in the front in less than a year. This is unacceptable for a hiking boot at this prize.

I am very disappointed in these boots. They are light, not supportive and not wide even though they list as wide. They have a very thin, light mid and inner sole so they seem like a cheaper boot, not over $100.

Just a little too narrow. Not quite as wide as last year's model. And the"wide" sizes are too wide for me

On my second pair, first lasted 6 months and seams came apart. Second the eyelet came off of the shoe after a week. Will be returning them soon.

I liked these for about the first five outings in the White Mountains hiking the Presidentials. But after that these shoes went downhill. First problem: frayed laces. Sure laces are expendable, but only after a half-dozen outings? Next the toe rubber started to peel away. Time to buy some shoe goo. Again, why only after so few uses? Finally, while I was about to head out for a half-day (I like an average of 10 miles/trip), one of the eyelets tore away from the leather! After inspecting the eyelet it was obvious that it was a cheap design, merely clipped to itself with two small prongs. A wonder why the others hadn't broken sooner. Granted I may put these boots through a little more than the average owner, but they are hiking boots after all, and I only used them for less than a dozen outings! For me that's bad value for money at the price point. If however, you only plan on using these shoes around town in the wintery slush, you will probably be quite happy, as I doubt they will degrade as fast. They do keep feet dry and warm and I had little to no problems with comfort and support, so there is that. But a real hiking shoe? It's like the salesperson replied at a local outdoor New England chain when I asked, 'Why don't you sell Timberlands?': "Timberland makes work boots. We don't sell work boots." Well there you go. Montrail Mountain Masochist Mid GTX's will be my next boot.

this was supposed to be a waterproof boot but it is not - feet were completely soaked when it was raining.
