I recently moved to the Pacific NW and have been in need of a hiking shoe/boot to accommodate the terrain. Due to recent sales at a couple local retailers, it came between this boot at 30% off or the Adidas Terrex GTX at 50% off, both coming to about the same price. I was reluctant to have a more boot-style shoe with the higher heel/ankle, and generally prefer the lower shoe-style, but thought that upper support would be needed. Both boots are very lightweight and have the Gore-Tex lining, and are very comfortable and feel great all around. The Terrex has a cool quick-lace system that is sort of a drawstring that I liked, but the laces are quite thin and didn't seem durable enough for that one element of efficiency to be much of a benefit. Ultimately I chose this Timberland because it just feels more durable. The Terrex does have the Continental rubber sole, but I read reviews of it wearing in 6 months or less. The leather in this boot seems more durable and attractive for uses other than hiking. Adidas just has that athletic shoe look that isn't my style. The Merrells I tried on were not comfortable and were bulky and ugly. I quite liked a pair of Montrails I tried on that were cheaper than these, but without the upper ankle support. I hope I made the right choice because I consider a shoe at this price to be an investment and hope to not replace these for years. My ratings are based on limited use so far.
I'd also recommend:
Montrail, Addidas Terrex

These boots are really comfortable. They did not require any break-in time. They seem to be waterproof as advertised, but I haven't given them a real test yet. They also have a wonderful tread. They grab crusty snow well. I feel very secure. The only problem that I have with them is that Timberland put a really short tongue on them. The tongue barely comes up to the top lace hooks. My solution for that was to use 45 inch waxed laces and then lace them only as far as the second lace hook. The new laces are better than the cruddy ones that Timberland provides and the laces won't slip down either. Despite my complaints, I really like the boots.

The color is definitely darker than in the pictures. Not pink but more of a maroon. Kind of disappointed in how dark they are compared to picture online.

VERY comfortable boot for walking and casual hiking. I think of it as a hybrid work/hiking boot. Not exceptional at either task but will get the job done doing both. Really my only big complaint is that it has an unusually low tread life. I suspect the softer rubber is what helps to make it more comfortable than most boots I have tried in is price range. But the trade off unfortunately is that I can probably only get 2 years max of tread wear out of it. Which a little more than half of what I get out of my previous boots. That being said, I still don't regret buying them. But I will be keeping my eye out for alternatives.

I used to wear 8 inch winter version of Chocorua trail boots about 10 years ago. It was one of the best winter boots I had have ever. These "old" chocorua were made with oiled nubuck and cordura, equipped with Gore-Tex and 400 g Thinsulate. They was extremely comfortable, warm and absolutely waterproof. These boots lasted over 5 years. Unfortunately this great product not available any more. So, I decide to purchase mid version. I really like Timberland boots but not this time. These mid boots good made, but runs small and too snug in toebox. leather is much harder than oiled nubuck. I tryed to break in these boots but after pair days I understand that boots will break my feets earlier. So, these Chocorua Mid style is definitely other than 8 inch Chocorua "old" boots I had, despite of the same name. They still looks extremey durable, but adsolutely uncomfortable for me personally.

I returned these becuase they were tight. I always wear a size 9.5 in shoes, sneakers, and hiking boots. these black chocura hikers were narrower and shorter than nything else I've ever tried. Get a half size bigger ,especially if you are wearing hiking socks. If you have a narrow foot , get the regular width. If your foot is wide in any respect, get a wide width....trust me.

Great looking boots. Ordered these and boots from Carhartt at the same time. Both 13 Wide. I liked the look of these boots better but they were too narrow and I could not get my foot all of the way in. Carhartts fit perfectly. Timberlands are being returned.

These boots like good and can be used to work on wet environment, but they run a number smaller than I was expecting and clearly made a mistake on not returning them on time, now I’ve been wearing them for a month or so, and the feeling is tight yet, not to mention the ankle support which is fine but the materials aren’t soft to touch and can’t wear them tight at work, so a bit disappointed even though they look great.

I have a pair of these that I bought over 2 years ago and still wear every day. They are comfortable and great for yard work. The pair I purchased 2 years ago was a 10.5 M so I ordered the same size thinking they would fit perfectly. Nope. The size I needed in the new pair was 11 wide. My recommendation for returning shoes is to not use the Timberland shipping label. It took nearly a month for Timberland to receive the return. USPS transfers the package to FedEx. FedEx delivers it to USPS in Chino, California which is only 13 miles away from its destination in Ontario. The transfer from USPS to FedEx back to USPS makes tracking difficult. When I finally was able to track the package I saw that it sat in Chino for weeks before finally being delivered. So just use FedEx or UPS and send it the cheapest way possible. It will still get there sooner than using the Timberland shipping label.

Too small, ran a half size smaller than most other boots so I couldn't wear them to determine if they would work.

I ended up having to send the boots back because I have torn both of my achilles tendons and the padding is very tight in this area causing discomfort and pain for me. My specifics on what works is much more restrictive that what most people would require.

This was a replacement pair of boots that were exactly the same style and size as I had before but they are quite a bit smaller and tighter than my previous pair. I need to get the next size up instead.

This brand does NOT sell wide shoes despite the "EE" wide designation. It was maybe a "D" width at best. I couldn't get my foot 1/2 way in. I couldn't tell much about it other than it looks good.

In terms of size the shoe felt accurate but the width was a joke. It was very tight and I could barely get my foot into the shoe because of it. I wear a EE. Would not recommend this shoe if you have wide feet.

The fit was true both in length and width. I could tell there was moderate arch support. The problem I saw was the leather quality. Low grade, cheap looking leather. Reminded me of fake leather. Not what I expected from Timberland.

I wear a size 15 or 16, depending on the shoe. The 15 was small and they don't have a size 16.

Now these boots are bit odd or maybe I have some odd feet. I actually went to a timberland store to try these on but they only had a 10.5 which was too small and an 11.5 which was too big. I ordered an 11 from Zappos and expected they should be just right. They weren't. They are slightly bigger than the 10.5. In the 10.5 my toes would scrunch and obviously were too small. When I slipped these on they seemed ok but once I started walking my big toe and second toe would hit the front of the boots consistently. I walked around my house for about a half hour because this seemed odd having tried the other two sizes at the store but yea my toes would hit the front so I am sending back. Everything else about this boot is quite nice though. If they fit you they look like they are keepers. The sole felt comfy. The width was nice and didn't squeeze or feel too wide. The materials were nice and overall the boot felt sturdy.

Fit and size were accurate. Very comfortable. Sole began delamination a little after a year. We do a lot of 5-15 mile hikes, but total mileage wasn’t very high before these started to fail. From there, they quickly deteriorated. It seems that the glue failed. If they lasted longer, I would highly recommend.

I have purchased 2 of these boots. The first time I put them on they were so comfortable I did not want to take them off. Wore out the first pair and bought another pair. Have them about worn out. They last a year. The rubber on the toe comes unglued and the sole on the side comes unglued. The tread wears out; gets thin and I can feel rocks through the sole. Will have to find another brand more durable. I live in the New Mexico mountains where there are rocks and pine needles and wear them every day. I glue the rubber toes back on a couple of times but it doesn't last. Wish they could make them more durable. For the price they should last several years, not just one.
