Great boot - I wear these to read meters. Have been wading through deep snow and slush and so far completely waterproof. The leather is thick enough that abrasion from crusty snow is not a problem. I have used brown polish several times to clean up the abrasion wear. Very good on slipper ice also.

These were really comfortable except the place where the tongue meets the sides of the top of the shoe. They didn't work for me, but I could see them being a great boot for someone else. I got the Asolos instead.

Probably the best looking boots I ever bought. From the ankle down they fit great. However right at the ankle, on the inside of the ankle. It feels like two nails are driving into your ankle. I have never had a shoe on that has caused this kind of pain. That's saying something as I was in the army for four years. Too bad because they truly are the best looking boot I've ever worn.

I have tried several pairs of boots before the summit GTX but never had a pair hold my foot in place quite like these. They seem to be a little heavier than a lot of hiking boots but I can't believe the support I get from them. I am wearing them to work all day and the only thing I'm not crazy about is the finish, but that's a personal thing. Otherwise they are great.

These are incredible boots! I did a great deal of research with various boots before committing to these. There is a one to two week break-in period with the upper leather around the ankle, but other then that, they've been perfect in every setting. I've gotten several compliments on these, something that I have never received on hiking or outdoor boots. Another thing that should be pointed out is the reviewing system, which on Zappos is great. I noticed on other sites featuring the same boot, that there were a few negative reviews for these boots and I went ahead and bought them anyway -- through Zappos. Glad I did. For a change I listened to the intelligent positive reviews versus the inconsistent negative votes and I'm glad that the positive reviews influenced a solid purchase this time around. Makes me wonder how many other great products I've past up because a few people wrote poor reviews of an amazing product.

My husband must really love these boots because it is all he wears! I can't speak for how they fit but he won't wear anything that isn't completely comfortable from the second he puts it on. He has me order him a new pair every few months and it is not because they are poor quality - they're great quality boots - it's because he wears them all day every day.

These are fantastic boots. My husband has me order them for him once a year as his old ones wear out. He uses them as work boots and is on his feet tearing them up for 15 hour days, a chef, a farmer and a father. Top marks for these. I only hope they do not stop making them.

I've had these boots for about 6 weeks and so far I am extremely happy. For most 6 weeks inst long enough for a proper review but for me this is when most boots start showing what they are made of. I have 2 reconstructed ankles which make finding boots a real ordeal. These I can honestly say are holding up amazingly well, with no signs of fatigue or stress to be found. I usually haul a very heavy pack with me when hiking and these boots keep their support while still allowing me to climb tricky obstacles. Some of the competition boast great support in a pack boot but what they don't tell you is with all that support comes the down side of not being able to be agile. All in all I will continue to support Vasgue, all I can ask for is that they offer the GTX in black.

These boots are great! I took them up to Kilimanjaro on a week long hike and no blisters or chafing at all.

I've owned these about a year now and have used them in the desert in Nevada, the mud of Florida, and the snow in the Dakotas. Use them both for backpacking and for casual wear, using Superfeet green insoles. I Sno Seal them every three months since I'm really hard on them. I wish they had a rubber toe cap as mine have gotten scratched up a bit on rocks, but otherwise I have no complaints. With the Sno Seal I've been out in snow for 6 hours and my feet stayed dry. Around town they're as comfortable as a pair of boots can be. With care they should last years. They are a bit heavy but, hey, they're boots.

I have trouble finding boots that fit properly but these are perfect. I highly recomend the Vasque Summit GTX. They are great in every way and very well constructed. Zappos is the only online store I buy shoes from. They are simply the best!

I ordered the Asolo TPS 520 GV and Vasque Summit GTX. I chose the Vasque as it is a little wider, has better toe room and I found the leather to be more supple (more of an oil tanned) requiring very little break in. The soles were very similar, both being slightly stiff. The Asolo had slightly more shock absorption but not enough to make a difference to me. Both had very good ankle support. I use Superfeet green insoles for a perfect fit. These boots are more than enough for most mountain trail walking and will be adequate for off trail walking, uneven, steep and rock scree.

Excellent hiking/backpacking boot. There are not many options in wide, this one is great. Hubby tried many different boots, and loved this one. He used to wear the Hi-Tec Altitude IV in wide, but it has been restyled (and made in a different foreign country than old model) and he really finds the new version of the Hi- Tec uncomfortable. This boot is great as a supportive day hiker, also enough support for a backpacking boot.

I've been wearing Vasque boots for 25 years now. This is my 3rd pair of the Summit GTX. These boots and Vasque quality are second to none. Excellent service from Zappos to boot.

I had to return these because the inside of the boot was not padded enough. There's a seam that runs up the side of the ankle that really rubbed me the wrong the way. It's a shame that the inside isn't soft and foam lined like the Vasque Breezes. Beautiful outside, but needs a whole lot of work on the inside...

These are the best hiking boots that I have ever owned. Since I was impressed with these, I have bought other Vasque boots as well, but this style was by far the most comfortable, most durable, and had the best long-time support. I used/abused these for over e years, lots of wet hiking and campfire kicking, and only a little cracking of the top after all that. One boot did develop a little squeak in it a year ago, but I still wear them. They have great solid toe protection and ankle support for long-term wearing. I am going to buy another pair soon.

Had these for a few months now. Just finished a 5,800ft high section of the AT. 30deg, rain, wind, 50 pound pack. These boots are sturdy, strong platform for heavy loads. At the end of the day my feet and ankles felt great. These are not lightweight boots but light boots kill my ankles when the trail turns to good sized uneven loose rock. Wish they had rubberized toe guard but nothing's perfect. Oh, and lots of room for thick socks.

I bought these boots about 8 years ago as dedicated hiking/backpacking boots. In my opinion, they did not hold up as well as a boot of this caliber (read: price) should. I doubt I put more than 100 trail miles on them and both soles and the Gore-Tex lining have failed. The soles are separating from the upper. My previous Merrells held up for longer and for more miles. The soles did eventually separate from the upper, but even after that occurred the Gore-Tex lining still remained intact. I could stand in a puddle with those boots and not get water in my boots, the Vasques on the other hand have become completely useless in wet conditions. They fit me extremely well, which was why I bought them. I have a 12.5EE foot, it's extremely difficult to find this size in a hiking boot. I bought these in a 12W and they ran close enough to 12.5 that I could wear them. The wide last from Vasque is wider than a typical D, but probably not as wide as a normal EE. After some break in, they fit well enough for me. They probably run a hair narrow. I doubt someone with a EEEE foot could wear these. Someone else had mentioned a pressure point where the tongue meets the upper. I experienced that as well, but it subsided with some break-in. I liked everything else about the boot aside from the durability. The soles were rigid enough to handle the extra weight of a pack while still protecting my feet (me+pack is >250 pounds). The soles have great traction and allowed me to confidently scale open rock faces. Bottom line. I'll be looking at a different brand for my next boots.

This is my third pair of Vasque boots in 25 years of near-continuous wear. They last forever. Comfortable, durable, Gore-Tex, beautiful leather, and generous sole. This is the boot other boots wish they could be. If boots could wish.

My boyfriend loves these boots. He has a wide foot so we ordered the wider size. This is his second pair of Vasques and he wore out the bottoms of the first pair ( he got 3+ years out of them) but the uppers were still in good shape. He wears them hunting, hiking and wherever he goes on weekends. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. He also has a pair of Irish Setter chukka style boots for work. Bought both from Zappos. Gotta love the return policy!

Take the time to break them in before going on a hike and using them for work. These boots seem to be build stronger than others I have purchased and need more breakin time. The bottoms are thick and great for protecting your feet on rough terrain. I work for the railroad and walk several miles a day on rough ballast. Unlike other boots I do not feel the rough terrain on my feet. These boots seem heavier but if they hold up it will be worth it to protect my feet.

These are the boots that I finally kept. They were not too wide like most all the other boots and they are thick leather. These should last several years. They did have a pretty cheap insole insert. I wear orthotics so this was no big deal because I always throw that out. It was interesting to say the least to see that in there because everything else on these seems to be high quality.

Great boot. Probably my fourth pair. Keep in mind they are leather so they won't breathe as much as other boots out there but they are rugged and last a very long time.

These shoes are the closest I could find to a favorite shoe I had many years ago. No matter any advance in technology of shoe construction there were some things I missed in modern shoes. These have it. The soles are perfect. The leather is sturdy and will eventually conform nicely to my feet, meanwhile the break in period is quite comfortable. I expect these to last several years and will be surprised if they don't.
