Zappos is absolutely the greatest. These boots rub on the top of my big toe knuckle. The stitching inside is very rough. Rubs the skin raw on this knuckle. Not everyone will have this issue. I have hard to fit feet.

Pros: made with high quality red wing leather, great thick thick sole, seams look good ( I have only had these boots for a week and haven't put them to the test yet) Cons: Imported

Overall, a great and versatile boot. I've taken these on backpacking on trails, snowshoeing, snow camping, and to work on rainy days. (Yes, they are warm enough to take on extended trips through the snow...as in 4 nights sleeping in a snow cave.) I also love the style; no flashy neon colors, no random strips of space-age material and texture patches; It's a simple, rugged, leather boot. Two minor flaws: 1 - You will need to buy some inserts, as the padding for your foot is very minimal. 2 - While breaking mine in, the tongue would slide to the outside of my foot, gouging into my ankle. Both are easily mitigated, but they keep the boots from being spectacular. Still, I love them.

These felt comfortable wearing them around the house. Finally took them out on the trail and they were awful. Heavy and painful. All my toenails were black even though I bought a size larger than normal, the tongue wore a bruise and blister. I have tried breaking them by wearing for short periods, tried stretching with boot stretchers, tried lacing differently. Nothing works. They are just taking up space in my closet until I can take them to the Salvation Army.

I purchased these and got a half size larger because of foot swelling and sometimes heavy socks I wear when backpacking. I wore them around the house and they felt great so I decided to go on an easy hike near my house. I hiked a total of 10 miles over moderate terrain. First the tongue of the boot irritated my ankle area. I tried different lacing techniques but the irritation eventually turned into pain. My toes were bothering me also but seemed manageable. I checked it off to breaking in new boots (though I had worn them around the house and yard for a week). When I got back to the trailhead and took off the boots all ten toes were black and eventually I lost all the toenails on both feet. I have tried them again several times, even used a boot stretcher and have even changed the insole using several different orthotics but to no avail. Right now I have an expensive pair of boots taking up space in my closet.
