My general comments on this boot. Not lined, a boot at this price should be lined. No lining means the seams on the side of the boot dig into the sides of your feet. The sole is so soft you feel every rock and pebble if you don't add an insert. Cheap laces for a boot at this price. No insert. A boot at this price should have some form of insert. The workmanship is good. The upper is nice leather but personally I think every part of the boot should reflect the price. To sum it it up, this boot provides an expensive upper, but everything else is equivalent to what you can get on boots that cost less than half the price.

Great boot. Spend the extra money and get Red Wings folks. They're worth it. The leather is so supple, yet strong, unlike some shoes that are comfy at first because they are made of inferior materials. Red Wings do take a long time to break in, but they'll be comfortable long after the the cheaper versions wear out. I wear a 10.5, and I had to return them to get a 10, so be careful. Ask yourself a question, do I need to wear thick wool socks in order for my boots to fit? If yes, you're wrong, go get suede Timbs, leave them untied and call it a day. These have to be snug when you get them so the leather can shape to your foot! If you tie them tight, and your heel still slides up and down with every step, enjoy the blisters or return them - those are your options! I wear wool socks some days and soft cotton on others, either way you should be used to these being snug. Be patient, it's worth it. I tried inserts for more comfort, forget it. I ended up with the factory insoles back in and honestly, they're fine. The 10.5's gave me some of room for insoles, but that didn't solve the heel sliding problem. So man up, and get the right size, bigger is not better. You'll have your golden years to wear orthos! Bottom line, these boots are trusty, yeah that's a great word for these. They pop on like the first baseball glove you worked so hard to break-in...you remember. Not perfect, but just what you need to get the job done.

This is an update to a negative review; after getting a pair that actually fits, I've come around on these. If they're too big, the slippage is only going to be accentuated by the stiffness of the leather. If that's your situation, send them back and get a smaller pair. Yes, they are super-stiff out-of-the-box, but that’s because they're built like brick outhouses. I will own these boots for the rest of my life (I'm 41). There's something magical about a pair of boots that you know will be with you through the progression of life's chapters, especially in the disposable world in which we currently live.

To be fair, I have owned several Red Wing boots before. With that out of the way, this review has been written objectively and with reliance on past positive Red Wing experience. I’ve worn the model 8883 now for 30+ hours and the immediate observation was comfort. The Red Wing Traction Tred sole with the blown rubber helps you glide on the earth. The boot also includes a leather removable insole, I use it, I love it! I personally am not a fan of the included leather laces nor the gold colored taslan laces. Therefore I opted to purchased the black and brown taslan laces. The Norwegian style welt, triple leather stitching, and concrete leather is robust. They are built so well. The leather feels a bit waxy or oiled and I’d expect not to treat them for 3-6 months depending on how hard I wear them. The boots are handsome but rugged. I’ll use them for work (moving, shipping, event production) but also wear them with my jeans for casual wear. They seem to be versatile and this concrete rough and tough color looks gorgeous as it starts to break in. No blisters yet but the leather is firm and expecting a few more weeks of wear before they are formed to my dogs.

It's going on week 3 of my wearing the Red Wing Heritage Moc boot, which I got in black, and they're super comfortable! The first week I wore them they were a little stiff around the ankle and vamp, but broke in easily. Stomping around in the boots and each step is very soft and cushiony; I never felt uncomfortable standing or walking on concrete in these boots. I only wish that there was a little more padding around the ankle. Also, they do run about 1/2 - 1 size bigger, so order at least a half size down. I normally wear between a 9.5 - 10, so I listened to other reviewers and went down one size because I didn't want heel slippage. I'm glad I did. The Red Wing Mocs in size 9 fit me perfectly with just enough room to let my toes wiggle. At first it was difficult to put on the boot because you have to loosen the laces all the way up, but it's getting easier. I might add an insole later on because I want to wear these on vacation, but they feel fine as is. And they look super sexy! Perhaps "Red Wing" is to men like "Fendi" is to women? I've already had two guys ask me if they were "Red Wings," and how much they liked the way the boot looked.

Why would I pay this much for a pair of work shoes? Part of the reason was that I trust Red Wing shoes, I know their reputation. The other part was curiosity, what would make a pair of shoes that much more expensive? As a UPS package car driver, my shoes get pounded, and I like the fact they can be re-soled. When I first tried on the shoes, I thought I got the wrong size, because they were hard to put on (maybe I have a high instep). Then I thought they make shoe horns for a reason, and maybe this is how work boots are really supposed to fit. I was right, the shoes fit perfectly, and give good support. I'll report back in a year, as to how they are lasting. One more note, the color of the shoe is beautiful, they have a reddish tint. But the white soles looked dorky with my uniform, so I took a permanent black magic marker, and colored the sides black...now they kick! Why did I choose Zappos for the first time, when I like to keep the money local? Zappos is a massive UPS customer, I ordered them Monday, got them delivered to my door Wednesday, no shipping, no sales tax, do the math.

This made about the 6th pair of Red Wing Shoes that I have owned. Red Wings are awesome. They last forever and are high quality shoes. You can't go wrong with a pair of Red Wings. Having said that, this style runs large. I bought a 10 - my usual size - and it fit for the first few weeks. Once it loosened up it was too large. I love these shoes and hate to admit that they don't fit but they don't. If you purchase this style, consider a half size smaller.

Looks like the folks at Red Wing have been drinking while sewing! Check out these irregular toe boxes—unbelievable how off they are. This is in no way a negative reflection on Zappos.com. Red Wing quality control is a conundrum.

Purchase 1/2 - full size smaller than you normally wear. Very little break in time if any. I read countless reviews on these and wish I had just bought them a year ago. Very good looking / many compliments. I have been wearing every day since purchase - roughly 2-3 weeks. Very good quality from what I can tell - Also own Redwing Canadian firefighter boots that were purchased in 1998 and still going strong. Bottom line if you’re on the fence just buy them.

I wear a size 10 in every other shoe brand so that's what I ordered for these. I got them and they were way too big. I then went to a Red Wings store and they told me they run size and most people get a half or whole size smaller than what they usually buy. I have wide feet so these were really tight initially. The Red Wings store told me to wear them for about a month to wear them in. They should form to your feet over time. I ended up getting a size 9. I've had them for a week and a half and I can already feel them getting more comfortable than they were initially.

There are obviously several reviews on these boots and of all the varying opinions, I think the most important thing to note is that measuring your foot on a Brannock device will save yourself a lot of trial and error time. If you don't have a Brannock device (why would you?) here's a link to a printable version that actually works great (https://www.acemarks.com/size-guide). So I measure a 9.5 length and a 2E width. Based upon those measurements and other reviews I actually ordered three different sizes - 9D, 9EE, 8.5EE . I also tried on each boot with a regular cotton crew sock, a midweight merino wool sock and a super thick merino wool sock. For some reference, my foot was swimming in the 9EE and knowing the leather will break in a bit it was a non-starter. As for the 9D, I could get my foot in there with each sock except for the heavy wool - now once in the 9D, my foot fit OK but I just didn't feel like I had the proper toe splay. The 8.5EE was personally perfect. Foot got in pretty easy with each of the three socks and felt like it was hugging the sides of my foot just right. There was a tiny, maybe 1/4 or less heel "slip" but nothing concerning and my toes were perfectly splayed but did not feel like they were sliding side to side like they were in the 9EE. And, I found that my big toe popped up just behind the moc toe stitching on the 8.5EE leaving an appropriate amount of length for the toes. As for the leather, it's fantastic. Feels soft - but not as soft as the Horween leather used on Wolverine 1000 mile boots (FWIW, I wear a 9D for my Wolverine 1000's) though I can't speak to how these Red Wing's will eventually break in but judging from my initial impressions I sense they will be terrific in time. It's all subjective, but I think the boots look even better in person. I initially ordered the Oro Legacy and Briar Oil slick colors and ended up keeping the Oro Legacy. It's not to say the Briar Oil slick was a bad color but for my first Red Wing purchase I just liked the lighter of the leathers. The white bottoms are super comfy and it's a bonus that the boots construction allows the bottoms to be re-soled .... with proper care these boots will last a lifetime I'm sure.

Bought boots have two other work boots from Red Wing and the quality is great. They do take a little time to break in but after that they are great! Only thing I would like is a narrow width for my narrow foot.

Excellent boot; top quality in every way. They seem to be completely waterproof; I have been in downpours on my motorcycle as well as almost ankle deep in puddles in these. I wear a size 14 in most shoes (Adidas, Sperry Top-Siders, etc.) these fit perfectly in size 13. Very comfortable after they break in.

So I am usually a 10.5 in most of my shoes. When I ordered these, i went a half size down and ordered a 10D. They were too tight. I returned them and ordered my normal size of 10.5D which felt too big. I returned them and decided to go to Red Wings and have them measure my feet. They reccomended a 9.5EE which actually felt perfect. If you have a store near you, I reccomend getting fitted by them. Never in a million years would I ever think to go a full size down and go wide.

The breaking-in period is no joke; easily takes two weeks (sides of your calf will get blisters b/c the leather is so tough). But it molds to your foot/ankle. Great support, comfy soles.

I have worn Redwing 1178's for exactly 30 years now. And don't plan to stop! First pair I bought in 1988. Lots of pairs since. I wear a 9E2 everytime and wear them 5-6 days a week for about 3 years per pair. Fabulous boot. However, I have been wanting to try some lace up boots for a while. The Heritage 1907's have had my attention for sometime I just hadn't been able to pull the trigger until now. I have studied countless reviews on the model and style. Because so many others have recommended a size down I even ordered 2 pairs...my normal 9E2 and an 8.5E2. Sticking with the 9E2's was best fit for me. The quality, workmanship and craftsmanship make these Heritage 1907's HANDS DOWN the finest boot I have ever worn or even had my hands on. Nothing else comes close. The leather is incredible and smells like that first nice ball glove you got when you were younger. I could not be more pleased with my purchase!!!

Not much that hasn't been said about these boots. One month in and they've broken in incredibly well. The quality of leather and craftsmanship is apparent, and I know I'll be wearing these for years to come. It's been mentioned numerous times, but needs repeating: Order 1 full size down! If you are on the fence, as I was, take another half size off. Folks aren't kidding when they say it. The toe box is big enough to get away with it and you won't run into heel slippage.

Aesthetically beautiful and very much worth every penny. Thanks to the reviews, I sized down from a loose 9.5-10.00 to a 9. They may feel a bit snug the first time you around, but once they are broken in after a couple of wears, they become really comfortable.

Wow, what a boot! I received these Red Wings a little under a month ago and have been able to march them through a generous amount of wear. At first, as expected, the leather and footbed was very stiff and a little unfriendly, but much like breaking in a pair of raw denim, they quickly warm up to you as the leather softens and the footbed molds to your feet. Listen to other reviewers when they say these boots are big! I normally wear a 9, but I get a snug fit wearing boot socks in a size 8. These boots are perfect here in the wet Seattle climate; sure to keep your feet dry and warm as the mercury plummets in the coming weeks. The aesthetic appeal of these boots goes without saying, as well as their practical utility. If I had a choice, these shoes would be my first pick in suffering through the circles in Dante's Inferno. If you are interested in picking these boots up, or are on the fence because of the considerably high price, just bite the bullet and regret will be the last thing on your mind once you get comfortable with these boots.
