This shoe replaced the 1122 New Balance. Sad to say, the depth of the shoe is less and therefore I am unable to wear my orthotics. But for the 'normal' wearer, this will not be a problem. And my shoe repair person is stretching the shoes as we speak! So I hope to remedy the problem and once again have a dependable, comfortable, wearable sport shoe!

tongue rotates to outside of foot -
Great amount of cushion. Room for orthotic. Good pronation control. Problem with shoe's tongue rotating outward (and if socks aren't tight then socks rotate too - very annoying), and yes shoes come untied. Bit too expensive. Also liked the New Balance older model WR1011 shoe, which is much cheaper, doesn't have the tongue problem, but unfortunately not as softly cushioned under the foot.

My 4E feet look pretty frisky and devil-may-care in these NBs, which not only come in the extra-extra wide, they even accommodate my orthotic. If only they came in a color other than white. My only quibble with the comfort: the lower underside of the tongue sometimes scratches against my foot. But I can wear them without looking like a moonwalker. This is my second pair, so obviously I\'m a fan.

These are incredibly comfortable shoes. I have not used them for running, so all of my comments refer to walking only. I bought these while on vacation, because of a potential stress fracture in my foot. My old shoes were worn out and I needed to get something to control over-pronation and fit my Rx Vasyli orthotics. These worked out great. I did a lot of walking (more than I should have) and my foot never hurt. I also have a bunion on my other foot and these did not bother it at all (sometimes shoes rub that part of my foot). These seemed to fit true to size (10B) for me, even with the orthotic and cushy athletic socks. These will be my primary workout shoes after my foot injury heals. As others have noted, the shoes look a bit odd with the arch so built up that it looks like your shoes are on the wrong feet! Otherwise, they look nice.

Since New Balance discontinued the 1122 model, I decided to try the 1123. It fits true to size, but I miss that nice toe box that the 1122 had because the 1123 does not have enough room for the piggies... it is just a tad small, but I still love New Balance... thanks for making 12Ns.

Nice shoes -
These are oddly shaped shoes. They look very nice from certain angles, and very strange from others. Looking down at my feet if I'm sitting in a chair, it looks like I have the shoes on the wrong feet due to how the arch area is so filled out. I wear a 4E, and still could've used a little extra room in the width in these. As usual, New Balance never has enough arch support for me, but I have a very high arch. Overall comfort has been pretty good, but they are a true running-type shoe that makes you feel like you are tilting forward when you walk. I wish there was a little more cushion in the front as well. These are very expensive, and if my feet weren't so wide and my choices so limited, I would've gone with a less expensive shoe. I don't think these warrant the price. One last gripe... the shoelaces were too short to be laced all the way to the top and tied, even when laced tightly. Zappos directed me to a New Balance contact, however, and I got replacement laces free and quickly.

Work shoe -
Really liked the look of the shoe, made my size 12AA foot look smaller, a plus. Seems to run a little wide. Good shoe for being on my feet all day.

Balm for sore feet -
Funny looking, but these shoes are really comfortable--deep enough for my orthotics, with a wide boxy toe and plenty of medial support. I just about ruined my feet in some clunky white leather walking shoes that did not fit my foot shape--pointy toes instead of the New Balance boxy toes. I must say though that the flared heel makes fast walking a bit tricky; I like the New Balance 1011 for long fast walks because the heel flare is minimized in that shoe.

The overall walking comfort of this shoe is as good as the 1122, but the quality of this shoe is lacking. The color bleeds, the shoe laces are way too short and the back of the shoe keeps bending forward when you are putting the shoes on. I won't buy these again – they're not worth the price. But as always, shopping with Zappos is a great experience, the service is excellent!

Love the fit - I really loved the fit of this shoe. The toe box was very roomy, and the width was roomy. The shoe is very stable feeling as I walk quickly, and very comfortable as I stand on my feet for long periods of time. The only negative things are the tongue tends to rub my foot and the wedge is so thick they look like orthopedic shoes.

This shoe is exceptionally comfortable and meets my need for a wide and comfortable shoe. I have always worn other New Balance shoes in a D width but they were never quite wide enough for me. This one more than wide enough. The only drawback on this shoe is that the purple trim runs onto the laces and white leather. A shoe at this price should not be running! I thought about returning it but since others have had the same complaint I figure they must all be the same.

Mixed reviews on this shoe. Right out of the box I thought it was perfect and would solve all my foot issues. But went on a long walk before trying a run and I got blisters on each foot in the same exact place. The bottom of one of my feet also hurts. If it wasn\'t for the blisters, I\'d think they were comfortable and supportive (good for aerobics too). They do look a little clunky but I can ignore that for the comfort. The blisters might ruin this shoe though. I am trying Reebok next.

I bought this shoe because of my past successful history with new balance. The toe box is great on this shoe, however, the cushioning is lacking compared to other shoes of this type. Beware!

Very happy with these sneakers. Tried them on and priced them locally. Zappos came in quite cheaper. Why would you not shop through Zappos?

Be careful! I bought this shoe after falling and having injuries of a calcaneus fracture and torn ligaments to my left foot. I at first purchased the Brooks Adrenaline shoe and even though I loved that shoe and the fit, my foot was swollen so much even 3 months after the injury that the Brooks, size 5EE, was too tight on my foot, so I purchased this shoe size 5 2E. The width was amazing, very roomy in the toe box which is what I needed, but the width in the heel and arch area of the foot was a bit roomier than I needed. But still the shoe seemed to be great for the width I needed, even though the shoe was not as cushiony and comfortable as the Brooks brand. Within days I was having tremendous knee pain which became greater and greater as the weeks went on. I even tried to add supports in the shoe to get more cushion, but after 3+ weeks of nearly intolerable pain in the knee it occurred to me that the pain had begun when I started wearing this shoe, so Friday (yesterday), I went back to the Brooks shoe and by the middle of the day the knee pain had subsided slightly. This morning I woke and put on the Brooks shoe and have been walking pain free for the first time in months! I am absolutely amazed at the immediate relief with the Brooks shoe. So be careful about this shoe. Even though it costs way more than the Brooks shoe, the shoe is structured in a way that must put pressure on the knees. Don't know if this would be a problem if one has no injuries, but for me it will go into the closet and never be worn again!

Purchased this shoe with the understanding that this was one of New Balance's best. Have worn for less than one year. The forefoot cushioning has broken down, which inflames the metatarsal pad area where I need it the most. The tongues are too short, as I have read before, and totally agree, which also makes the laces come undone all the time. Even if tied in a double knot, will work itself loose. Other than that, for a wider toe box to support orthotics, and a 2AA heel, it was a perfect fit.

Review of NB WR1123 -
I bought a size 10W because I wanted enough room for my orthotics. They feel very wide--- and I need to have both orthotics and very thick socks to be comfortable. The stability of the shoe is great. Keeps even the severe pronation straight.

Beth's review -
I am only buying this shoe b/c it took the place of the 1122 which I absolutely loved. I must have bought 15 of those sneakers over the years. The 1123 can not measure up to the 1122. It is loose, it isn't as firm, and the tongue does not remain where it should. The left tongue moves to the left whenever I wear them. The right moves some of the time. I have flat and wide feet so my choices are limited. I overpronate and wear orthotics which fit well in these sneakers. However, the heel pain flairs a bit more than with the 1122s. The colors are lovely and the soles hold up well. Construction looks good. I walk 8 miles a day so it is very important to me to have a sturdy and comfortable shoe.

Not as good as the 1122's/not as wide or comfortable -
I have worn the 1122's for many years and was hoping that the 1123 would be even better. But NO they are NOT as comfortable. I wear a 4E because of an injury, and believe me the new ones are NOT as wide as the old ones. Also why purple? What was wrong with the blue, it went with just about anything. The new shoe is also longer and the shoelaces are too short! I will now have to switch as I am unable to put my inserts into these shoes.

Another Disappointed 1122 Fan -
This shoe is a big disappointment compared to the 1122 it replaces. It offers significantly less motion control than the 1122 (and the 925 walkers from the same era), and it feels like there is less forefoot cushioning as well. New Balance also seems to have changed their sizing--perhaps to make their sizes more consistent with other brands? I wouldn't know as their SL-2 last is about the only thing that fits my problem feet. What I DO know is that I had to move a half size down after remaining the same size for years. The lack of arch support is not a problem for those of us who use orthotics. Yes, there is still plenty of room for orthotics and toes, so I guess it isn't all bad.

My feet looked twice as big in these shoes. These are for my grandma. I mean they are esthetically so challenged that it was impossible to pass that to feel the comfort everyone is talking about. Returned.

I ordered these shoes based on the mostly glowing reviews of others but I should have paid attention to the reviews that pointed out all their problems. Unfortunately, these problems do not become apparent in time to send the shoes back or these would have been shipped back in a heartbeat. The right shoe seems to be built strangely, my foot just can't "settle" in. I think another reviewer found that her right shoe was actually narrower than the left. The tongues of both shoes shift to the outside, rubbing the top of the foot. The pretty "lollipop" color bleeds onto the rest of the shoe. Sometimes when you look down at your feet from a certain angle, you would swear that you have the shoes on the wrong foot. They look like they should be the other way around, but only from a certain angle. I've been a big fan of New Balance for years, starting with the 843 but have been very disappointed in their products lately. Seems like they keep fiddling with things and, in my opinion, not improving at all.

Not as good as the 1122's save your money -
Ok, I have given this shoe almost a year, and I still feel that the 1122 is MUCH better than this overpriced narrow shoe. Due to an injury I wear a 4E, and this shoe is NOT as wide as the the 1122. Shame on NB, why did you have to go and change the shoe? Don't waste your money on this shoe, order something cheaper; the 1123 is not worth the price! My husband has also worn NB for years and he now has to order a wide size due to their shoes now running narrow.

Adding another pair to the collection of useless shoes -
Like all the others (many New Balance, Mephisto, Ecco Receptor, Brooks Addiction, etc.) I have purchased for walking, this shoe fails the test of walking 1.5 miles. All of them claim to be "stability" or "motion control," both of which are sorely needed here because of narrow, flat, bony feet and pronated ankles.
This NB at least has forefoot padding, but it is not a comfortable shoe. After wearing for about an hour, arches, ankles, and lower calves hurt--a lot. After wearing for several hours, the pain is unendurable. Feet still hurt the next morning!
This is probably the least comfortable NB shoe of any that I have purchased. Obviously, I would not recommend it.

Very disappointed -
I have plantar fasciitis; these shoes were recommended by a doctor at a supposed non profit website. I am waitress so I'm on my feet all day, these shoes were more miserable than my regular shoes, I even had my orthotics in them, wore them at least 10 days to give them a chance. For some reason it seems to make the plantar fasciitis worse. What a waste of money!
