These shoes are wonderfully comfortable. I have loved Dr's for forever. But the most impressive thing about this whole purchase is the speed in which I got them. Zappos rocks.

It felt a bit narrower on my son’s as he had some bit of struggle fitting his leg into it and complained about tightness around instep. However, length-wise seemed okay. I worry he won’t take to wearing these because of this discomfort despite the beautiful look of the shoes.

Unfortunately the clunkiness, heaviness and stiffness of these shoes make my body overcompensate and created bad neck pain after one day of wear. I'm used to pretty flat shoes so I know I can't adjust (in my 60s) Sadly they are going back. I wish I would have gotten used to this style earlier in life!

too narrow in the forefoot for me...

I love these docs but ended up trading them for the Bex oxfords with a little bit more of a platform! I’m usually a size 7.5 but always a size 7 in docs! Definitely super cute tho!

I absolutely love these, I always wanted a pair of docs but unfortunately I waited too late in life! They fit True to size & looked great but were too heavy. I don’t think I’d be able to break them in which they def need. Going back. 7

Loved the shoes, but the sizing chart definitely didn't work (for me). The shoes were too small and for sure too narrow.

I agree with reviews that say one size is too small and next size too big. I too had to put orthotics in my women's shoes because my ankles were rubbed so hard they got blisters. The orthotics supplement the arch support, which is modest. The style is great and overall support is what I pursued. I like the look of the Doc Martens better than wearing athletic shoes.

I liked it but I needed at least one size down. I ordered the "6 UK" or US Women's 8. I pretty solidly wear an 8 in most women's shoes. It didn't work for me.

When you become familiar with the European sizing and remember they don't offer half sizes, it's easy to get a good fit. As everyone comments, they do require some breaking in and I wasn't willing this time to stick with it. I also felt that the smooth leather would scratch up and show marks so I did return them. I ordered another pair that actually are embossed leather.

I love the look of this shoe! Unfortunately they were a bit stiff and the heel was causing a blister immediately. Too bad.

I own several pairs of DM boots and shoes made in England that I bought before they moved to Asia in the early 2000s. These 1461 W shoes are the first pair I bought since then. They re from Vietnam. The quality seems lower than the older MIE DMs (which is why I put 4 stars overall), but they re still very nice and look gorgeous. So far, I m very happy with them. I ve had them a couple weeks now and have been wearing them almost every day, mostly comfortable right out of the box. I thought the back of the heel might dig, so for the first few days I put moleskin across my ankle bone and covered it with duct tape (a great tip I learned online), then put on socks. This worked extremely well. I ve been wearing them about 8 hours a day with no discomfort or blisters. I don t use the moleskin/duct tape anymore and they re fine. I first ordered the regular 1461 shoes, but they looked like clown shoes on me, so I exchanged them for the 1461 W (in the same size) and there s a real difference between the two. If you re female, definitely go for the W version. Size-wise, I m a women s U.S. 7.5 in just about every shoe I own, and all of my DMs are U.K. 5, a perfect fit. One more thing...Zappos customer service is the best there is. I received the first pair in one day, then when I needed to exchange, I got the new pair the very next day. (I wish Zappos would start carrying the Solovair brand.)

Go-to shoe in warmer weather...looks great with just about everything, wear them with ankle socks.

Face it; at this price you won't find a better made shoe, of such sturdy construction and rich quality leather.They are classics! My only caveat: I wish they came in half sizes. Normally, I take a women's size 10 40 UK , and these still slipped after adding heel grips.After re-lacing to also make them a little narrower and the slipping was solved. I love the look!

I ordered half a size smaller of these shoes because of the reviews but when I got them they were still too big. I am a size US9 and UK40 in Reikers, Fryes and Finn. I ended up with a size 8 with still plenty of toe wiggle room. These shoes are made of stiff leather and I doubt I can wear them enough to break them in, so I just use thick socks and also try to put band aids on the my lateral malleolus area. When I do wear them, I sure have a lot of fun. The yellow shoelaces sure attract a lot of attention.

The shoes came quickly and in perfect condition of course. I was happy to buy these as none of the stores were carrying this brand.

Already reviewed. It somewhat narrow

If you're tempted to follow the advice of reviewers who claim that these run large, please save yourself the trouble and order your usual size. I am between a 7.5 and 8, with some extra width in the toe box, but I do not usually struggle with M-width shoes. I sized down and ordered a 7, per many of the reviews, and it was excruciating trying to squeeze my foot into the shoe, let alone walk around! It fit like a typical 7 would, so I have to assume that my usual 8 would fit like an 8 too. Now I know!

very stiff

How in the world do people break these shoes in? I've had them for six months and try wearing them with thick socks, thin socks, laces tied tight, laces loose, and they still rub my heel very bad. It's frustrating, because they're worn enough that I doubt I can return them but I can't functionally wear them.

These Docs are made in Vietnam, and for some reason, they have chosen to line the forefoot portion with weird rough fabric instead of the traditional leather. Instead of my foot sliding against the interior as I bend it while walking, it feels like it's hung up on velcro. Very unpleasant indeed.

These are extremely hard leather and the heel is cut in at a curved angle and digs into the back of your foot / ankle. My other pairs of DM do not cut into the back of my ankles.

I wish these fit, but they just don't. Wish they had half sizes.

I so wanted to relive my youth and rock these amazing looking Docs, however... I just can’t take the pain!! The opening at the back of the shoe angles in and the stiff top edge feels like the back of a knife cutting into my achilles. Sadly, I cannot our fashion over function.
