I'm a true 8.5, but always take an 8 in Frye boots. I took previous reviewers' advice and went with the 8.5, which fit perfectly. They're a nice looking boot, but the leather is thin and cheap looking and doesn't feel like typical Frye quality. The sole on these boots is awful - I slipped taking my first steps when trying these on. I much prefer the Engineer (nearly identical to these, except thicker leather and rubber sole) or even the Harness (rubber sole with a square toe and bad-to-the-bone biker feel). I just don't love these, so they're going back. Shipping/customer service was top notch, as always.

For the price, I was at least expecting to be satisfied with the comfort of this boot somewhat, but they literally kill my feet. I've tried breaking them in repeatedly but they are so darn stiff and uncomfortable. Will not be purchasing Frye again.

I ordered Chocolate Vintage Leather color in size 7 (my usual size). That color is not the color presented on the pictures. It is less rich, not shiny and dull "in person." I really did not like it at all. Size 7 is way too small - I would have to size up. I returned them, really disappointed. Not sure if I will give those a second try. Might go to their store, see all the colors, and try different sizes on.

I really wanted to like these boots. I don't know why, but they are cut so narrow across the top of the toe. They feel like they're squeezing the life out of your feet. I know they're the right size, if I had gone up, I would've been walking out of them, but they just don't work. The back of the heel too is so hard, too, and bites into my skin. I even tried wearing them with ski socks with the padded heel. I tried having them stretched across the toe, twice, just to get them to stop cutting off my circulation, and it helped some, but they're still not great. I wish I had returned them initially, but it's been years now of my attempting to wear them every year and failing. Additionally, I have really narrow, slim feet, so I know it's not just my feet. I was surprised this was the result with these boots given the extremely positive reviews, but they just don't work. In my opinion, these boots are not worth their price.

Oh I so wanted to love this boot!! It is just what i have been looking for but alas! it was just too wide in the heel area and when I walked my foot almost came out of the boot...even with very thick socks on. And if I went down a size I'm sure it would have been to short in length for my foot. This boot looks good on but narrow footed people beware! it is made for the wide footed people among us. Sadly, with my narrow feet I had to face facts...it's going back. Thanks Zappos for your awesome service.

I really really REALLY wanted to like these boots. I kept trying them on every day for a week and walking around the house. I tried different socks, and no socks, and returning them for a size smaller. But to no avail, the toes were much too tight and the heel was MUCH too loose. I was totally bummed, especially for the money that they didn't fit me. Now I see that other people had the same trouble with the heel. Oh well.

I talked to a lady about Frye boots in the store and she said that they should be hard to get on as the wonderfully soft leather stretches quickly She suggested that some people put on a grocery plastic bag and slip the boot on with the bag and then pull the plastic bag out after you are in the boot.

Beautiful boot - excellent quality. Had to return (thanks Zappos for excellent service there!). Boot was too tight in toe area, not enough arch support, footbed not comfortable. If not for this, I would have kept it - I so wanted to keep it. Also would have been easier to get on and off with an inner zip.

The leather in the shaft of this boot is crinkled, mottled and generally cheap and unattractive looking which is not apparent in the photographs. I am sending them back Very disappointed in Frye.

Love the style of these boots so much! ! Sadly, I was never able to break them in. These boots tore up my heels so badly and I'm not a wimp with breaking in any shoe/boot...but these boots were too much of a challenge. Based on some reviews, these boots seem to work for some feet, just not mine. Good luck! Zappos, thanks for your awesome return policy!

I ordered these a while ago and after a few months sadly had to return them. I had been lusting after these for about a year before I went ahead and bought them and I was so excited when they arrived in the mail. They were made of a beautiful pebbled leather, though it was still stiff around the toe and heel (something I had been warned of beforehand). So I took them out for a spin and to my disappointment, I got the worst blisters of my life. The tab of leather at the heel dug into my ankle so bad I had a few layers of skin peeling off and my ankles were bleeding. It took about a week for the blisters to heel and even now I have the scars (and that was close to 6 months ago). Overall, I loved the boot. They're beautiful and of great quality; however, they completely shredded my ankles. I guess this wouldn't be a problem for most, but I'd warn you to go try these on at the mall before ordering. I'd like to give a shout out to Zappos' awesome customer service team. They were friendly and helpful throughout the whole process and I will definitely buy from them again because of that!

I am always size 8. Size 8 fit perfectly. I didn't like the way that they looked on. Very wide at the top.

I ordered the dark brown stone wash: the color was true to the picture, slightly "roughed up" - actually a little too disheveled for my taste. I really like how the style of this boot and lusted over them for months. The biggest disappointment was how uncomfortable they were. I am a very true 9.5 with a fairly narrow, flat foot. The 9.5 I ordered was good on length, but tight in the toe and mid-foot, and the heel slipped big time. The boot felt very stiff and uncomfortable, and they'd have given me some major blisters. I suppose some breaking in would probably help, but for the cost I am unwilling to compromise comfort.

Love the look; however, the size is weird. 7 was too small & 7.5 slips off heel. I get blister every time I wear them.

This boot is pretty much a fail for me. I got the brown brushoff color about a year ago (I think) and within a couple of weeks, my boots had ugly white scratches all over them where the finish has rubbed off. It doesn't look cool or natural, it looks cheap (which they weren't!). The footbed is not that comfy -- it fits me a bit narrow -- and whatever material is on the inside of the boot has a tendency to pill and then the pills fall off and get under my feet so I have to take the boot off and dump out the detritus before I can keep walking comfortably. Finally, I think this is a weird height for a boot (10-inch shaft height). for me, the boot cuts my leg off in just the worst place and makes me look about a foot shorter. So, I wear these only with boot cut jeans that fit over the shaft. Kind of a waste of a boot. If I had it to do over again, I would not purchase this boot.

Stiff, unpadded sole made these lovely shoes impossible to wear. Couldn't add an innersole because the toe box was too narrow for anything but heavy/light socks. I wear an 8W or 8½ M.

Normally I wear a size 6 or 6.5 regular width, ordered this boot in a 7 and it was uncomfortably narrow. Also was not impressed by the "vintage tumble" finish on the leather - this feature alone made the boot not worth the money (it didn't seem very durable or a finish I'd expect from such an expensive boot). Returned. Wish they made these in a wide width.
