This is a much different shoes than the nimbus 8. They have much less arch support, a HUGE toe box and in my opinion, are too cushiony. A good shoe for walking, but I do not like running in mine.

A no go. Decided to switch from Gel Cumulus to Gel Nimbus for running (I'm an underpronater). Mistake. Though the roomy toe box was nice, there was too much room in the heel, and I don't have narrow heels. Also felt way wide. Going back to the Cumulus.

Keep searching - I loved the Gel-Nimbus 8 so much that I had two pairs. When ASICS released the Gel-Nimbus 9, I was confident that I could not go wrong with this shoe. I was wrong. Very wrong. I needed a neutral-cushion shoe, and Runner's World said this was the shoe for me, and considering the success I had with the Gel-Nimbus 8, I decided to give the 9 a go. Big mistake. The way the heel is structured changed my stride, and I have since started having hip pain. I've only worn these shoes on 10 short runs. I shelved the shoe for a while and went back to a pair of Gel-Nimbus 8 -- and did not have any pains. I recently tried running in the Gel-Nimbus 9 again -- only ache afterward. I cannot return them, but if I could, I would.

ASICS'S Gel-Nimbus 9 not as good at the Nimbus 7 - I am very disappointed in this shoe. It doesn't even look like the same shoe. It definitely does not have the same comfort and support the Nimbus 7 did. The fit is also different, the area on the metatarsal of my great toe is being rubbed where the sole meets the skin of the shoe. I recommend trying it on in the store and running in it before making a purchase. The materials seem very cheap and the sole's much thinner.
