Best shoes for hard floors -
I "emergency" ordered the Rockports after walking four days on retail stores' floors in leather soled loafers. The Rockport fit is very good. The comfort and support they provide is incredible. I can't say enough about the style. They are among the most "current" shoes in my wardrobe and they are easily the most comfortable. I've worn shoes costing three times as much without the comfort Rockports provide. Fan for life!

Fantastic fit and looks great!
These shoes look fabulous with dress slacks. My husband got them for his work. He is an M.D. and is on his feet all day. He says they are very comfortable and true to size and width. They don't look like a lot of the 'old man' shoes that are considered "dress". Rockport was also featured in the July 2007 "Stuff" magazine.

My husband does not have much luck finding shoes that fit - with a small and wide foot - here we have no trouble! This is now the only place we are buying his shoes - casual and dress.

looks with comfort -
I hate buying shoes because that means I am about to throw my current comfortable shoes away. However, I have found these shoes a worthy replacement. Stylish (enough), takes a shine (enough),boxy toe space (enough), soft leather (enough) to make these very comfortable for 10 to 12 hr wearings day after day.

Comfortable right out of the box. Obviously not a replacement for a dress shoe, more like a nice work shoe. Like most shoes these days its so lightweight I don't know how long it'll last.

Bought these for an interview, and have only worn them for one day. They were very comfortable. The heel rubbed a bit, but I'm sure that will get better after they're broken in. They looked great with my charcoal suit.

Very nice shoes but they (or my feet) required more gradual breaking-in. Not very comfortable to wear the first few times.

The shoe fits great but very stiff and hurts my feet by the end of the day. I love the Rockport line but not this shoe. The quality is great, but uncomfortable.

Very nice and well constructed shoe. Nice finish also. Seemed to be sized pretty true. Comfortable pretty much from the get go. Will buy again.

The leather was very stiff at first, It took me several weeks of use not to have my feet hurt. Once broken in they are good, great sole, non slip and they do look very nice. But that might just be me, I have wide feet and my toes don't lay flat. I also bought the Bostonian Hewett and those shoes fit perfect from day one, like I was wearing slippers, soft leather, no break in period at all and they look great. Hope this helps someone.

Took a few weeks to break this shoe in but after that, Rockport's comfort kicked in! Certainly not a stylish shoe but ok for normal day to day office wear.

Ready to wear out of the box -
I wore these for a full day of work without breaking them in, and my feet felt fine afterwards. It's a nice-looking shoe, and I especially appreciate the fact that it's available in extra wide sizes.

Balanced dress-shoe.
I bought this dress shoe the day before a consulting interview. My purchase was made in a brick-and-mortar store, not on Zappos.com.
The "Ellingwood" is a solidly built shoe, comfortable and built to last a few years. I tried on a few other dress shoes, Johnston & Murphys, Kenneth Coles, and Bostonians, many more than 2 or 3 times the price of this shoe, and ultimately, the salesperson recommended this Rockport model. Once I put it on, I knew that I was going to buy it.
The rubberized sole cushions each step nicely, especially on New York City's unforgiving cement sidewalks. True to form, the shoe wicks away moisture on rainy days, making it a great all-weather shoe. However, as other users have mentioned, the weatherproof design insulates this shoe, making it very hot to wear during the humid summer months.
If you are not a shoe connoisseur and just want a beat 'em up shoe to wear to the occasional dress interview, this is the shoe for you. Alternately, if you are a shoe snob and want a "beater" to wear during inclement weather, this is a great bargain buy. Rockport shoes are owned by Adidas Ltd. AG, meaning that most Rockport shoes are designed for durability and dependability, not on sleek fashion. If you are looking for a "fashion shoe" to turn heads, look to Ferragamo. If you are looking for a reliable shoe that does what it says, go for the "Rockport: Ellingwood".

A very comfortable dress shoe. The inside is very supportive and cushioned. The outside is quality made and light weight.

Good dry shoe -
The shoes are soft and comfortable. I normally don't like rubber soles on dress shoes, but rainy Oregon necessitates a waterproof shoe for all the rain in the fall and winter. They don't breathe as well as I would like, and they can get hot, but that's a waterproof (resistant) shoe for you. I’m pretty happy with them overall.

Not true to size -
I usually wear a 10 wide (WW) and ordered this
shoe in the 10 1/2 WW, figuring that it would fit
freely, which is what I was looking for. The 10
1/2 WW was too narrow/tight, sent it back when I
found a 10 4W, the last one left, and it was wide
enough and fits just fine. Very comfortable shoe,
good support, looks nice and bends/creases back at
the laces, just right. I would have preferred a
10 1/2 4W, but that is just how the shoe is made.

Dave’s review -
They are a bit heavier than earlier Rockports I’ve purchased, probably due to the different sole material. I like them very much, but the real winner is the superb service from Zappos.

Just what I was looking for in looks and construction. But I'm frustrated with the fit. This shoe was definitely narrower than other Rockports I've owned in the same size. I ordered (and returned) the same shoe in a size wider and they were much too wide. I used to be a big fan of Rockport, but lately their size inconsistency is changing my opinion. I still haven't worn this shoe yet. Not sure whether to return or try and break it in. I wish I could wear it a couple times and still be able to return it if it still felt too tight.

Good shoe at a good price -
Overall happy...big fan of Rockport. I was a bit disappointed that the toe was more box than point but the box adds greater comfort to the front of the foot. However, it is a bit less dressy than I would have liked. Very comfortable out of the box.

Bought the narrow shoe. Fit is great. Only complaint is the raised Kinetic Air Circulator under the heel. Very uncomfortable and will have to replace the footbed. Otherwise happy with the shoe.

This shoe looks a little bulky and the finish is kind of dull. Shoes are a little stiff and need to be broken in which takes time and also results in the shoes looking worn, wrinkled and alot less dressy.

While not the dressiest, I like Rockport shoes for work assignments where I have to be on my feet for long periods. Rockport have a reputation for comfort. What I didn't notice about these was the "waterproof" designation. Though they have leather uppers, they don't seem to breathe well and feel a bit plastic-like on your feet. I suppose if you needed the waterproof bit, they'd be just the thing.

This is a nice looking shoe, but it does run narrower as compared to other Rockport styles. I wear a wide shoe (4e). I also purchased the Rockport Style Wise Wooster in 4e and that fits great. The Ellingwood in 4e seems to be narrower, but it may be that it is a squared toe. Also, the material used for the laces causes them to become untied easily.

These shoes are quite uncomfortable. The leather is very stiff and even though they look roomy, the width is narrow. The shoe is made well, but lacks comfort. I keep waiting for them to break in, but I've worn them on and off for a few weeks now and they still pinch and cramp my feet. When I wear them, I have to leave the laces loose, which creates a sloppy look at the instep. I weigh 135 pounds so my weight or size is not the problem. I took out the inner sole to see if comfort would appear; instead, the shoe buckled around the laces when I laced it up. Buying shoes, reputable brands no less, on-line is not a good idea and I probably will never do it again. I wasted money. Dan
