My feet love these walking shoes - I finally have some comfortable walking shoes, they are worth the money. I don't know why the ankle has to be so high, though. That's a bit less comfortable than they would be with lower tops. But still they're the best walking shoes I've found anywhere.

Comfortable and functional. Was able to wear all day right away.

A little too stiff - These are exactly what I was looking for in a light hiker - good looks, good traction., but after a few days of wearing them around the house, I found them to be a little too stiff and the tongue hit the top of my foot in an uncomfortable place. I think if I had kept them and worn them on the trail, they might have broken in beautifully, but I didn't want to take the chance, so I sent them back. If you are looking for some good protection in a daily hiker, they might be just right.

Sara from Colorado - These waterproof hikers were just a bit narrow in the toe - other than that, they would have been perfect for me - they accommodate my orthotics, which was the big #1 thing for me. I did return them and am test driving another type of New Balance waterproof hikers that was suggested when I spoke with a sales rep in the outdoor shoe department. That was a great experience and I urge anyone to give a call with any kind of question. The young lady smartly suggested that I order two different styles that seemed to fit the bill for me so I could compare them more easily (ever tried to remember what a shoe felt like two weeks later????) I'm still walking around on my carpet with different kinds of socks with the other pair and think it may be my dream shoe. I will report back :)

One of the Best I Tried - I wish this shoe was a little wider in the toe and a little narrower in the heel. It does have a neutral sole and is fairly stable. The tongue is a little too large but my orthotics fit in the shoe nicely.

Tight fitting... This was the first New Balance shoe I have tried. I found that the toe part seemed very tight even though my heel felt like it was slipping out. Cute shoe just not comfortable to me.

These felt comfortable when I tried them on, but I have a neuroma on both feet and feel that the toe box was not wide enough, even though I ordered a wide size. People told me New Balance was best for a wide toe box, but these are not good for a neuroma. Perhaps other New Balance shoes are better,

NB - I'm still deciding if this shoe is too stiff and thus I might return it. It seems well made with a reasonable arch, but like some other customers, I do feel the tongue comes up too high and the whole top feels quite stiff. I'd like it to have more cushioning as well. In other words, I'd like a cushioned, waterproof, breathable shoe that doesn't require breaking in!

Stiff but seem good quality - I have the earlier version of this shoe, which was very comfortable and not hard to break in (but falling apart after years of heavy use.) The new ones are very stiff and give me some pain on the top of my ankle and I have some heel slippage. I'm trying to break them in slowly, but it hurts to wear them around the house. I can tell that the rest of the shoe is good and sturdy. Good waterproofing. They’ve improved the traction on the sole since the last version. If I get them broken in, I'll be very happy with them.

Mary's review for Nike Walking Shoe - Overall, this is a well constructed shoe. I have ball of foot pressure, so with my orthotic inserts, this makes a great long distance walking shoe, and a great shoe to wear if you are on your feet quite a bit during the day. Highly recommend this shoe for looks and comfort!

I ordered these shoes because it was one of the "favorites" on the Zappos web site. As soon as I put them on I knew I could never wear them. These shoes hurt my feet in several places. They felt like there were rough places inside. I do have bad feet but have not had a shoe that felt this uncomfortable before. I really like the look and the fit ran true but the comfort was just not there.

Not for me - I can see how these would be comfortable if they fit. All my athletic shoes are New Balance because they come in AA. The last on this shoe is a little wider than my favorite SL-1, but it's fine. The painful part for me is around the ankle bone. And because of the way they lace, I have to have lace them to the top or they fall off. My other NB hiking/walking shoes have been more comfortable. Fit like all NB: order a size larger than street shoes.

Heel Slips. I would have loved to have this shoe work for me -- felt great right out of the box -- like it was made for me, but my heel slips badly in this shoe when walking. I also bought the 977, which is great, with no heel slippage.
