Large calves beware! I love these boots. If I could design my ideal boot, it would look exactly like this. However, if you have large calves due to genetics or sports (or both) you might find the boot shaft too snug (or, in my case, not be able to get it on at all). The foot of the boot does run a little big, so size down accordingly, especially if you have narrow heels. But athletic-legged girls beware: keep in mind you may have to get the top of the boot stretched by a cobbler or leather specialist. Because it's such high quality leather, it stretches uniformly and still looks great, though it will cost a little bit extra.

I am 5'5" and wear a size 9 in the Frye Paige Tall Riding, Veronica Slouch and Veronica Shortie. My calves are an ample 15.25in. I've always wanted a pair of the classic Campus 14L boot but my calves would not get into the shaft which oddly stops at the widest part of the calves. After reading Zappos product details, countless customer reviews and chatting with the awesome live online help, I decided to take the leap of faith. I ended up ordering my boots directly from Frye as Zappos did not have my size available and inventory didn't appear to be forthcoming. I ordered the Saddle color in a size 9. The pair I received appear darker than what's pictured online and not variegated which I like. The footbed is true to size. There is some heel slippage which is normal according to the Frye's website. But what about the shaft circumference?! I anticipated some sort of struggle in getting them on considering my calf circumference was the same as the boot shaft. Enter the plastic bag trick which enabled me to get the boot on and over my calves. The shaft was snug but not at the point of cutting off circulation. I've been wearing them around the house for the past two days and I can already tell the shaft has stretched a bit. I don't think I'll need to take these to the cobblers for stretching. Unlike the more pliable leather of the Veronica Slouch, the Campus Stitching Horse is thick. I do think gals with a calve circumference of 16in or more will have no luck with this boot as-is meaning without cobbler magic (stretching, elastic gusset, etc.). Additional details I dig about this boot? Despite the contrast stitching, they don't come off too western-y. Think hobo-chic. Plus they're made in USA!

I wore the exact same boot in High School in the early 1980's. It was a good quality boot way back then and still is now!! They don't get any better than FRYE, with Quality, Craftmanship, and Style! Repeat Customer!!

Can't wait for cool weather to wear them. They are perfect. A bit hard to take off and very heavy. (Ps don't wear and get on a scale.) Love the color. Would like to have a crossbody purse also.

Is very good quality, confortable , true to size boots , they are easy to put on , they are a bit snag around the calves but for me that's a good look , I don't really like my boots loose around my calves . They look like the type of boots that would last a life time or at least for a very long time . A bit on the heavy side but over time I gotten used to that . Worth the price

I can't state enough positives about the Campus Stitching Horse boot. First of all they are extremely well made inside and out which is why they fit so well and look so great on. They are very versatile I can wear them with jeans, leggings, skirts, and dresses. I have them in Saddle and they just seem to go with everything. I love their classic, timeless look and the cool stitching. I am very happy with these boots, glad I own them.

I am pleased beyond words! I have a difficult time buying shoes due to my size 11 foot! I have PLENTY of toe room, the cushy insole is extremely comfortable and they are just gorgeous. I had the same boots in the 70's and was so pleased to see that they're still being made, excellent quality and style!!!

I received my Campus Stitching Horse boots on Friday they are beautiful. Wore them for a 12-hour shift at the hospital. Kept them on the entire time. No problems. Everybody commented on them and complimented them. I own the Veronica Tall and Short slouch boots. I was afraid The Stitching Horse boots might be difficult to get on. Not so. I slid my feet into them while standing. They went on easily and fit like an old friend. I bought Banana. Quite striking. I am so into Frye Boots

Finally got my first pair of Frye boots and decided it'd be these beauties. 1, I love they are made in the USA. 2, I love the classic Campus Frye boots and how the style dates back to the 1800's. I had to have them, and I couldn't be more pleased. I purchased them in walnut. I ordered a size 9, even though I typically wear an 8-1/2. I like to go up half a size with boots because of the thick socks I like to wear with them. That decision was spot on, they fit great! They didn't require much breaking in, 2 full days in them and the soles are loosening up nicely and they're forming to my feat as expected. I'm 5'8 and 170 pounds, the fit around my calf is just big enough.

I bought these boots in 1973. I wore them constantly. I just uncovered them in an old chest in the barn! They are still in great shape!

My late husband bought me a pair of these in the mid '70's and they are as beautiful now as when he first gave them to me! Quality workmanship lasts. Unfortunately these boots outlasted my sweet husband who passed three years ago. Unfortunately I'm not sure where my pair is since my daughter took it upon herself to start getting rid of some of my things. :( Well worth the price!

Beautiful boot that stands the test of time. It goes really well with skinny jeans and leggings. Normally I wear a size 8.5 to 9 in a Frye boot as I have narrow feet. This boot seems to run true to size as I started out with a 9 and sent it back and got a 9.5. Zappos service is great as always and boots arrived in 1 day!

I bought these boots 2 years ago on impulse and have never regretted it. I am always receiving compliments and they are amazingly comfortable. The leather is so beautiful I just enjoy looking at them and touching the leather. The toe box shape is also very flattering to my large feet! Still look brand new.

Let just say WOW AWESOME BOOT! And that coming from born & raised TX girl says a lot. I am just sick I have to return. These boots look like clown boots on me. Foot part is just to wide for me. That coming from someone who has about 10 pairs of Frye boots. These are my favorite looking boots I have ever seen. Ok you know I love the boot. I tried putting in an Ugg insert & this did make them fit. But foot part just look to big for me. The calf part was loose but did not look bad. Great leather that did not slouch. Very well made boot. Oh how I wish I could size down. I ordered size 5.5 (Frye does not make size 5) which 5 is my normal size with the largest part of my calf being 12". Knowing I have 10 pairs I can normally make 5.5 work. I really think if you have wide foot these would be great. If you have med foot, like me, size a full size down. If you have somewhat of athletic calfs & med foot I would recommend size down half size. This boot is a show stopper. You will not regret. I'm just sick they did not work for me. :-(

These are classic, beautiful boots. The fit is good. They are a little hard to get on, but that's true with all pull-on boots. Zappos' shipment speed is incredible. I ordered regular ground and the boots arrived the next day.

Perfect retro boot that still remains a classic. So many people comment about how much they loved these boots and the great memories they had in them. How cool is that? Hey, I'm all in for creating my own awesome memories in these boots. Unbelievable service Zappos and thanks Frye for perfect sizing (5.5), amazing quality, and a classic color (banana). These boots are incredibly comfortable. For some inexplicable reason, I find them to be a tad more comfortable than the Campus 14L (although I still love the 14Ls, too). The shaft is wider than the 14L, so if you can't fit into the 14L because the shaft is too small, these may do the trick for you. They are true to size -- I wear a 9 in all Frye boots, and the same is true with these. There is even enough room for inserts, if needed -- but they still fit fine without them: neither too long, nor too wide or narrow. Seriously great boots.

Bought my first ones back in the '60s. Wore them all through college and into graduate school. Had them re-soled at least twice, until our cobbler told me that they couldn't take another round. Over 10 years of being worn nearly every day during cold weather! They were my wardrobe's greatest treasure, and it was a sad day when I couldn't find them anymore. Best footwear I ever had. And now I'm going to treat myself to some new ones!

The boots I received did not look anything like the photos. For one, the stitching is yellow and the leather is a much lighter brown than shown. In the photo, it looks fairly tonal, but it is actually very bright stitching. Also, the photo shows a lug-type sole, and the boots actually have a smooth leather sole. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful boots but not what I was expecting and not really what I was looking for. I was looking for something more versatile.

I have a pair of these in the banana that I bought several years ago and they are the most comfortable boots I own. I thought I'd save up for a pair in a different color, but the quality is just not the same. I've since discovered that Frye is now owned by a foreign corporation, so I'm guessing that they've cut corners to increase profit. Too bad. At one time, buying a pair of Frye boots was a no-brainer. Now, quality very much fluctuates.

I so wanted to love these boots. I wear a true 8.5 M and have moderately sized calves. I can pull these boot on, no problem and they are not tight around my calves. So...there is no problem with the fit. But they are so hellishly uncomfortable I can't imagine wearing these if I have to walk at all. Total pain! I tried putting insoles and orthotics in them too, but nothing helped. Expensive mistake!

I wanted to love these boots so much but sizing & fit is very difficult, so had to send them back. they were either a defective missed-sized pair or they are at least a full size too big, although I ordered them in my regular size. my heel raised up several inches off the foot bed (way more that a 'little heel slippage' and my foot just slipped right out of them while walking & they fell off while sitting with my feet dangling. very weird. Way more than a half or full size would. even with wearing double socks & an arch support insole. i wonder since at 5'3" & small boned & light that was related? also the calf of the boot was enormous. i have slender calves & ankles but still could get a few fingers in them even after tucking jeans into them. reviews where people indicate they were too tight in the calf & width & women wearing larger sizes, if that helps them stay on since the tight calf could help with keeping legs & feet from sliding out of them? likewise their weight helped anchor the boot more to the ground? this might just be a physical thing related to foot & body type & characteristics of the boot. the boots are heavy & thick (which I love! & the quality was out of this world fantastic! & so is Zappos), but for smaller size & weight people with thin calves & ankles this style might not be practical? Zappos doesn't carry any more the color I like in the smaller size I'd try, so i have to give up on these or buy from Frye directly. I may try the regular campus boots & see how that goes. wanted these very much for so long! Very sad it didn't work out....
