I have three pairs of these in the exact same style. These are the only pair that are too tight on only one of my feet. They're definitely the least comfortable pair of reefs I own. These also feel completely cheap. Not like the other two pair I have. It's such a bummer because for a pair of flip flops they're far from inexpensive. They used to be so great. I hope this is not what I can expect from now on.

Ok, a bottle opener on the sole of your foot made of metal? Come on, Reef. I got these as a gift a couple years back and I cringed every time I crunched a pebble under the metal tab. The R&D people at Reef obviously never really tried these things out in real world conditions. I wear slippers (yes I just called men's sandals slippers) almost every day and put them through their paces. Think about the sanitary issues of using a bottle opener that you walk on. If you need a couple of dirty bottle openers attached to your shoes and only wear them on your carpet these are for you.

Hands down the best, most comfortable, longest lasting sandal I've ever had, and I live in these things year round. Although in need of replacement now, I've had them for at least 8 years, and am now looking to buy another pair. I recently bought an alternate pair, but I'm ditching them because the 'flip flop' of the stiff sole drives me crazy. These Fannings do not make flip flop noises when you walk, and stay with your foot which makes walking far more pleasant. The only downside is the bottle opener. I wish they'd make the same sandal without the bottle opener. After a couple of years, it caused some midsole pain from the metal pushing through. However, that went away after about a year.

I have bought 3 pairs of these in a row but clearly Reef have decided to get really cheap with some part of the construction. In spite of washing, deoderising, not wearing, leaving in the sun, leaving in the shade and any other number of attempts to get them to neutralise, these shoes stink. Like you can't keep them in the room with you stink. No other shoes I have carry this skunk like smell, nor did my two previous pairs of these. So avoid the 2013/2014 ones like the plague.

So far so good with this pair but not so lucky with a pair I got last year. Sat in closet until this past July. After only a few times wearing them the straps came out of the side. Had to go back to an older pair until I got these.

Not good for wide feet. I had a pair of these a few years ago and liked them but I went a whole size bigger and they are still tight. I have only had them for a week so still trying to break in hoping they will loosen up a bit.

I bought my Reefs Nov 2011 and they died April 30 2013. As I have 6 pairs of Flops I wear at different times I am truly disappointed with the quality of this sandal. My other flops are hitting 3 and 4 years old and wearing strong. This will make me consider not buying any further Reef products as I just ordered three more pair NOT REEFS.

I was looking for a more dress yet casual sandal. The Fanning is a very nice sandal, feels very durable, but I expected more arch support having previously worn a few pairs of the Reef Smoothy for several years. It's a nice looking sandal but if you need more arch support I would recommend the Reef Smoothy.

I have these in the black with the yellow sole. I bought them in June, and despite being quite comfortable, they have some flaws.Its been three months, and the reef symbol on the top of the strap is missing on both sandals, on the right on two of the letters are gone, the soles are worn down very thin now. The only thing that is completely intact is the foot bed/air sole thingy. Based on how thin the sole is,you can expect the high wear areas to wear away quickly. My heel and forefoot on both is completely smooth and almost gone. My Reef Slap II leather are in perfect shape, very little wear, and I bought them in March.

Merrell, Keen, Clarks Unstructured.

They are decent, but I did not think it had much arch support. I give them a 3 which I take to mean that they are pretty good and I would recommend them. It was decent as far as cushion went. After walking around at the zoo with my toddler, I did notice my back start to ache. That said, it withstood having him on my shoulders the day before at the railroad museum.

They're fine so far - not particularly awesome, but not bad either. The bottle-cap opener is awkward and it slips easily, but in a pinch it works alright. It probably takes some practice. I prefer my old Reefs.

After reading all of the reviews for these Reefs, I thought I would be a bit more impressed with them than I am. They're fairly comfortable and a bit more than your average flip-flop but not much. They seem to be well-made, and hopefully they'll wear well. Not bad, but nothing special.

Based on the price and the Zappos reviews of the Reef Fanning, I had very high expecations of these flip flops. I expected these to be very comfortable and very stylish. These only got it half right. They are very stylish but the piece that goes between the toes is very uncomfortable. After wearing them a few times, my feet have gotten more used to them but they are still not the most comfortable flip flop I have ever worn, which is what I was expecting.

First off I'd have to say that I'm very happy with Zappos service. Fast shipping and a competitive price compared to other on-line retailers.
As to the Reef Fanning sandal I'm lukewarm at best. The strap is comfortable. The heel counter is not very good and slipping to the side is constant. As a longtime sandal wearer I found myself with Achilles tendon pain that I have not experienced with other brands, probably due to the elevated heel.
In it's place I'd recommend the Topsider Santa Cruz. Less expensive, heel cup that holds the foot centered more comfort and arch support in the footbed and a non-marking sole for boat use.

We knew to order 1 size larger from a previous purchase. Great shoes, but not if you have tile floors. The bottle opener on the bottom of this sandal will scratch and take the finish off of the tile. I liked these without this feature. I did not realize it was even there until I got them. My fault.

The look and feel of this sandal is awesome...but it's definitely NOT for wide feet. The material is designed to go back to its original shape so don't think you can stretch them out...other than that they are pretty cool to have.

I recently purchased the Reef Fanning sandal and realized I should have gone the size up. I wear a 9.5 normally. Since these only come in full sizes, make sure you order the next size up. After getting these sandals and wearing them the first time. They were quite uncomfortable between the toes. Almost as if the material was just too thick. I have been wearing them off and on now since and am getting more used to it but it’s still not as comfortable as I would have hoped, especially after reading the reviews. Otherwise, a pretty cool and unique sandal. Everybody gets a kick out of the bottle opener.
