Best casual shoe in the world - Expensive, of course, but worth every dime. I think of the Mephisto Match as the equivalent of a BMW or current-day Audi; luxurious, performance-oriented, a statement of who you are, fun to use. The label on the shoe is meaningful only to the connoisseur of footwear. And it feels REALLY good on your feet! Just bought my third pair after wearing out my other two over the last 10 years. Oh, yeah, did I mention that they're durable?

Made in France - I have had these shoes for 6 years and they are starting to show some wear. They are most comfortable but the newer versions are made in Portugal! I have tried them at the store but they have a different fit and feel. I wish the manufacturers would have preserved the integrity of the Mephisto line by keeping the manufacture at home in France. My wife and I have 10-12 pairs from France and they are the best shoes we have ever owned. They last and last. I'm not sure about the ones from Portugal. Someday I might need to buy them, but they are different.

Comfort&Durability I am 69 years old and overweight. This shoe is the most comfortable shoe that I have ever worn. The shoe continued to wear even though it was past the time I usually replace a shoe.

I bought my first pair of mephisto shoes in early December. By the end of the month I bought my second pair. Simply a great shoe. The only shortcoming is the heel feels a bit wide.

On my second pair because the first had stitching on the inside sole that failed. I work in a hospital and wore the shoes for 6 months of about 40,000 steps a week. My biggest complaint about these shoes is that the leather loosens up and doesn't allow one to tighten the shoes enough, especially if you wear compression socks which are thin like dress socks. When I noticed the failed stitching I contacted Mephisto, sent the shoes back and got a new pair 5 days later. I commend the customer service on their end, but expectations of durability are quite high when paying $400 for a pair of shoes. I ended up buying another pair of Mehpisto "Harrison" shoes and I'm just a huge fan of the way they make a shoe. I can no longer buy those squishy foam cheap shoes anymore that are just designed to fail prematurely.

I own five pairs of these. They are wonderful functional shoes, albeit pretty unsightly. They are so functionally perfect that I am willing to put up with how they look (my family hates when I wear them!). Despite the other reviews, these are the least durable shoes that I own. That is why I have five pairs. The soles wear out in about three months before I need a resole - and that is with routinely switching pairs. The Mephisto representative at one of their stores finally agreed (after getting over his brand loyalty) - the entire sole, while thick, has a very thin layer of base rubber. Once the tread on this base is quickly gone, if used more, the shoe will be useless if you got through the first layer before resoling them. Thankfully, for a resoling fee I routinely have new shoes. They are entirely comfortable but hideously ugly!

Great Shoe - I needed half size larger than I usually wear. I have many pairs of different Mephisto’s and like them all. I walk all over New York City and expect good wear because they aren't cheap. Biggest draw back is the weight of the Match. They are not a light weight sneaker. They are long lasting and can be resoled. The Match did have a very short break in time for me but they always feel better the longer you own them since they are well made.

Match still not qutie fitting right, but Zappos is great! I have had 2 pair of Mephistos before, and love both - put them on and never need any breaking in. The Match is not quite the same for me. Some soreness in the arches, but I think that will go away in time; Still, I'm dissappointed that this has happened with any Mephisto shoe. Zappos was GREAT. Exchanged for a different size, and they exchanged and shipped immediately, arriving before schedule! Would definitely recommend Zappos to everyone!

Better than Boots - For years, I only wore boots, but after my feet begin to hurt, I went to "Clark Walkers". While purchasing a new pair of Clark Walkers in New York City(I live in Texas) three years ago, the clerk showed me the Mephistos. Great fit, comfortable and stays together somewhat better than Clarks. The Mephisto is fine for office or recreation.

Mephisto Match - Well-made and fairly comfortable shoe but size runs small, especially width. Unknown how they'll hold up as I've only tried them indoors a couple of times. Selection and service from "Zappos" is the best there is!!

Mephisto Match - Very comfortable, good support, removable insole, large toe box. The only downside to the shoe is they are heavy.

I'll try again to find these shoes in France. Nice shoe, but it did not feel as comfortable as I hoped.

Mephisto Match was one size larger than the 10 medium size that was purchased and delivered to me. I used these shoes for several years about ago but this new Mephisto Match was not a comfortable as the old one. These shoes were shipped promptly by Zappos and you guys rock on service and shoe selection. Thank you Zappos Team!

Had a pair of these about 5 years ago and loved them. Bought another pair recently and not working. Left foot arch hurts when I wear. Not sure what happened - maybe my feet have changed. But really disappointed for almost $400. Think I will try to return.

These have a sole thicker in the middle that causes a rocking effect. Some must like that, I don't.

Mephisto Match Walking Shoe - A relatively comfortable shoe, but the upper edge of the back, the part that surrounds the ankle, is a bit too rigid; the rigidness cuts into the ankle somewhat.

Didn't work out for me. I'm not a big hiker, and had no particular foot or knee problems; I bought Mephistos for the looks (and they were a good "weight" for a fall shoe, which I needed). I wear a women's 5, and the smallest they had was a 6, but they seemed to fit well. They were comfortable to wear, but I soon noticed frequent cramps in my toes after wearing them several days in a row. That problem seemed to get somewhat better after a few months, but then I started having pain and clicking in my knees. Didn't see any connection for a couple years -- I'm in my 40s, so I figured it was just age catching up with me. But this spring, while wearing the Mephistos every day for weeks, the pain in my knees got so bad I had to hang onto railings for dear life going up and down stairs. The toe cramps returned too. When the weather got warm, I switched to other shoes. After that, the foot and knee problems got so much better, so fast, I now feel sure that my beautiful shoes were to blame. I know many people love 'em, and some say they help with foot/knee problems; I don't doubt it. But I suspect there's a subset -- maybe a small one -- of people for whom Mephistos make things worse, and I'm afraid I'm one of those.

Match order review - I think Mephisto makes great shoes, though they are very difficult to find. And, once I decided on these, I could not order the narrow shoe that I'd hoped for. Th e wide base is a little big and takes away from the look and comfort. I still enjoy them and will get used to things.

Mephisto Match - Very comfortable. Size 10 fits my wide foot and the lacing accomodates my high instep. The bottom layer of the sole is thin and wears out much too quickly.

Aside from the fact that the shoe was at least 1/2 size too large for me, when I normally wear 11D, the shoes felt very heavy on my feet. Further, when I walked with issues on my hardwood floors they squeaked annoyingly.

Not worth the money... I can't imagine why anyone would spend such a huge amount of cash for such uncomfortable shoes. The leather was stiff and the width at the arch too narrow (typical of European and Asian shoes in my oinion). Perhaps if Mephisto offered them in Wide they would be comfortable, but still not worth the money. I have a pair of $60 Hush Puppies more comfortable to walk/work in than these.

Very Comfy But..... These are great shoes, but there is one downside to them. The problem with them is that the sole has a frame with a thin rubber outer cover which after a couple of weeks of wearing wears off and you are left with no heel.
