These boots have changed. I bought a pair about a year ago (beige): I love them; no break-in period; soft from day one, very comfortable. I bought now my second pair (black). The leather is harder and they are tighter. (They also have a new label saying "made in Vietnam"). I am sure (better, I hope) that they'll get more comfortable with time. But they certainly need break-in. Buy them half a size bigger.

Good shoe, sort of. I really liked this shoe when I bought it, but after about a year the sole on the outerside of the right foot wore down to a point where it seperated from the shoe. But besides that small fact I think that it is a good shoe.

They arent the same. I had the desert boots while growing up, when comfort didn't matter. I thought these things were the best shoes in the world, but now its time to face facts! There is no arch, you just can't seem to get them tight enough, I have even tried soaking them and then wearing till dry. Sorry I'll stick with the Clarks - Wallabees, very good shoe, same price,just "ALOT" more comfortable.

I hope they loosen up. I really wanted a 10.5 Wide in this shoe, but since you do not provide Wides, I've been suffering through Mediums hoping they will loosen up. Not very promising so far, I have to untie the laces after a few hours.

I purchased these for my husband. He has a couple of other pairs of the same boot and they have worn well. He loves the olive color on these. They arrived in perfect condition and fit perfectly.

Style of the boot is awesome : ). These shoes are 1/2 size to 1 size larger than what I normally wear. I'm a size 10 so I got a size 9.5 to accommodate the larger shoe.

These definitely run at least a size larger than listed, but once you figure out the right size they are very cool shoes. I like the dark blue leather, it should look great with dark jeans. I like to add a heel insert for a little extra comfort and stability.

Awesome boots! I wear the desert boots for all walking around Boston in the fall and winter and they remain comfortable. I also went on a moderately long hike the other day in them and they felt great. I do find that Clarks in general run a size smaller than whatever size Nike sneaker I wear, but the width is true to me.

I've been wearing Clarks desert boots and wallabe boots for years now. They are comfortable, versatile and stylish. These desert boots are no exception. The dark tan suede version...a little stiffer suede than my light tan ones out of the box. Desert boots and Wallabe models have no real arch support to speak of, and run about a half size large. (I normally wear an 8.5M in pretty much every brand, but an 8M in Clarks desert boots, wallabe and jink models fit me well. I suppose you could add arch support with a gel insole, but you may want to buy our normal size in this boot if you do that as the insole would make the boot fit a bit more snug. That's just my guess. Regardless, these are nice boots and well made. Additionally, the crepe soles actually perform well on icy surfaces, but don't take that as an excuse to not use good judgment on ice. And while these boots are versatile, don't expect them to keep your feet dry in rain/snow. They are *not* lined throughout and not waterproof sealed. Desert boots and chukkas in general are having their day right now with mass popularity, but these carry classic styling that you can/will want to wear long after the fad passes. Great way differentiate your style from the average gym-shoe-everywhere wearing guy.

Love Clarks desert boots. Been buying them for many years, just bought 3 more pr: black, brown, taupe (suede). All look great. A few grumbles... this new taupe color is lighter than the previous. I like the earlier taupe better, seemed to be a warmer grey. Saw one comment about the black boot developing lighter color along the crease lines. True that these newer chukkas must use a different dye process. So, dude, have you ever heard of black shoe polish? It will darken the creases. All are extremely comfortable, don’t tire my feet, and as they get worn-in, feel better and better. Could they use a bit more arch support? Maybe. But they don’t seem to bother me at all. The crepe soles are great for long walks, and are completely silent even on the hardest surfaces. But these are primarily for casual wear, don’t exactly work with a tux ; ) Tho you might get away with the black and maybe one or two others in semi-formal situations in a pinch. Buy 'em a half-size larger and you can wear heavier socks for even the coldest winter days (but don’t get the suede ones wet). What the heck more do you want from a pair of shoes!?

Bought these for my husband, and he loves them! We were a little worried because he has wide feet. They were tight when he tried them on but have stretched quickly to fit just right!

I have lots of feelings about dees boots. D boots look rad, simple and stylish. Take a few days of breaking in/getting used to and then they're bombdig. I order a half-size down from my usual. I've owned numerous pairs whilst residing in urban environments: tho comfy, I've never been a fan of the crepe sole as it seems to absorb dirt and ends up looking nasty. This doesn't seem to bother some and perhaps it shouldn't as there's likely comparable filth on all shoes, but I never liked the aesthetic. I just ordered the wine leather boots. Gorgeous packaging: I cracked a beer and took damn near 20 minutes just opening the box and savoring the delights. The wine is a bit more winey than pictured, really gorgeous but borderline flashy, far as hue is concerned. I am not a pimp. A primary reason for selecting this shade was slightly darker sole, which I reckoned would obscure the discoloration. My neuroses re: sole gunk notwithstanding, these boots are great. Dress em up or down, from the back to the front, hmmmm baby. Zappos 4 life.

I love these shoes! I will say that the color becomes distressed looking after wearing for a week. Not that it is a problem, just be aware. They are comfortable and I have had quite a bit if compliments.

True to fit for small sizes. This is one of the most comfortable shoes coming out of the box. The leather of the brown tumbled leather is supper supple and one day of wearing it molded to my foot. I've compared this shoe to the beeswax leather shoe. The beeswax leather seems like a hardier leather but, being so, it is very stiff and would take a long time to break in. Go with the tumbled leather if you want instant satisfaction.

Great shoe. Perfect fit from moment I put it on. My wife was after me for bring dirt from the garden into the house. These boots solved the problem. Now I'm back in her good graces.

This shoe is comfortable and versatile. It can be worn with a suit or more casual attire and therefore makes a great travel companion for the business/tourist.

I bought these for my son, a freshman in high school, because he loves the "retro" look. He LOVES them! They are very comfortable and stylish. He wears them every day. Just today, he told me that two girls stopped him and said, "awesome desert boots!"

Exactly what I was expecting. Ordered half size down fits great. Normally where 11.5 ordered 11!

Probably the most basic comfortable shoe I have ever purchased. I have 2 suede pairs and the black leather pair. The shoes were received promptly, and even before the expected delivery date.

Love! I ordered these desert boots in navy blue suede and absolutely love the color/style. I called the Clark's store down the road and the lady on the phone said, "No. We don't have navy blue. I've never even seen this boot in navy blue." She wasn't friendly at all (which is not altogether surprising here in New Jersey). My mood turned upside down when I realized that Zappos had this shoe in navy blue suede and cheaper than the store price for the other colors. Superbly comfortable boot. They look fantastic with my camel/acorn/khaki colored pants. I'm sure you'll be able to coordinate the black version with more outfits, but I needed something to wear with my navy blue shirts for a more polished look without wearing dress shoes. The boots feel very solid and sturdy. The leather is durable and the opening is wide to the point that I'm not required to tie and untie the laces every time I wear them. Perfect boot in my opinion!

These Desert Boots are probably my all time favorite boots now. They looked a little weird and "hippyish" when I first saw them but seeing all those positive reviews just made me HAVE to try a pair. To say I love them would be an understatement. They are without a doubt the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. I LOVE putting them on. Feels like I'm walking on marshmallows. They do run big but it just makes it easier to slip on an off! I first bought the black pair (which has top quality leather) and just came back two weeks later for the burgundy leather pair. A girl lastnight said I have a sexy James Dean look to me, and I blamed it on my black boots and black leather jacket. Anyway, if you're still on the fence by now maybe you should just forget about it and go get some second hand jungle boots. (BTW these boots are VERY easy to keep clean . . . just take a wet rag and wipe down the leather. They'll look brand spankin. Voila, no polish required.

I wear a 10.5 but I ordered a half size down a per other reviews, and it was definitely the way to go. The heel feels a bit snug but I think it's just the style. These don't have any arch support so I might add insoles. They look really great and will definitely be a staple. I ordered the dark grey suede but it really looks more like a dark greyish brown, which is fine because it will go with everything.

These boots are really comfortable. Other review(s) mention there's some pain in your ankle/Achilles during the break-in period but I haven't experienced that.
