My usual women's size is 7.5W. I ordered the equivalent to size 7, based on previous reviews. This was the correct size for me. I so wanted to like this shoe but could not get beyond the stiffness and heaviness so I had to return them unfortunately. Why makes shoes so stiff?

Felt like they would take way less time to break in than the 1461s but my heel kept slipping out. The padding around the back looks a tad orthopedic but seriously they felt very comfortable, just seemed to run larger than I expected.

I have brought Dr Martens before. These were too tight. I didn’t think I could stand to wear them long enough to break them in. I sent them back.

I was delighted to have recently received my 8053 5 eye black size 7 shoes. They were my first Dr Martens shoe and seemed everything I wanted being black, cushioned collar and comfortable. However, I wore them for the first time and was extremely disappointed to find that my feet got very wet and my socks were soaking. Yes, it was raining but I would have thought that such a durable shoe advertised as Wintergrip, implying that they they were suitable to wear in the snow or when wet and slippery, that they would be water resistant? I wrote to customer service who advised me to purchase from them the wrong protector (wonder balsam). It appears that the gentleman at customer service couldn't ascertain from my order number that they were a suede finish! Very unhelpful especially as I would have expected that ALL Dr Martens shoes should be waterproof? They have not offered to replace the shoes with a waterproof pair, or recommend a suitable waterproofer from the High St which must be considerably cheaper that Dr Martens version. My husband is reliably a size 15 in shoes (except occasionally Nike which he has to go up to a 16 in at times). I also bought him Clark's and Rockport shoes in 15. Those fit well. Asics trainers also fit well in a 15 (for reference points). After reading all the reviews I ordered him a 15 in Dr. Martens. I have returned those and am re-ordering in 14's, as these were huge on him. I hope this helps in your shoe shopping. Width and quality were awesome, so I am hoping for a good fit in the 14's. The number of stars will hopefully go up when I get the correct size. :-)

I want these shoes to work but they are just too loose on my foot. I wear a women’s 10/10.5 and the 10 in this shoe is a little long in the toe and loose all around. My foot slips out with each step and I have tightened the laces as much as possible. Bummer. Thanks, Zappos, for super easy returns!

The first pair I received was a solid color, not two tone as in the catalog picture. I returned them for another pair. The second pair was a different color than the first pair, but still not two tone. I was tired of the return hassle so I kept the second pair.

I am on my 3rd pair of Dr Martens. The first pair lasted over 10 years, the 2nd pair lasted less than 5 (made in China) and I just ordered my 3rd pair (still love the shoes) and even though I ordered the same size as last time, the shoes were at least a size too large. I am going to order a full size smaller and give one more chance. The arch support and general comfort of the second pair was less than my first pair which I absolutely loved! I purchased the Dr. Scholl's expensive arch support and the shoes are almost as comfortable as the first pair. I think the quality has seriously declined and not a surprise being made in China. Maybe should bring things back home to get back to quality and consistency. My feet did not get smaller!

Loved them for about a week, then I started to feel like my legs were getting tired and I had to drag these shoes along with each step. Definitely feel bigger than they are. Even with the thickest insole I could find they are still uncomfortable overall. But they look great and that's what matters right?

I wanted to replace my brown Doc's that I've had forever, but are sporting a hole in the leather. These Doc's are too hardcore work shoe for me. They are quite stiff. I was hoping I won't mind the padded collar, but I just didn't like the way they looked. Dang.

Dr. Martin is nothing like it used to be. The bottoms are glued to the shoe and no longer stiched as they were when I first started buying them. When they outsourced to Vietnam the quality went way down. After about 6 months of wear I have to use Gorilla Glue to glue the bottoms back on to keep from throwing away shoes with plenty of tread on them. I even tried to order direct from the Dr. Martin site in the UK but the same low quality shoes. I bought another pair since I do like the look but it is def time to find a new shoe to wear away from this brand.

Not the quality they were way back when they were made in England but still decent. Insole had to be replaced right away, but that is something that should be done with all shoes.

I took the laces out and replaced them so that the laces didn't pass between the sides and pulled them tight enough that the leather along the eyelets overlapped. They were STILL so loose, they would rotate around my foot, swinging from ankle to ankle. Given I bought these because my physical therapist said I needed shoes that lace up and support my ankle to keep it from rolling and spraining again, that was a waste of money. Basically: they run *extremely* wide. The look ends up disproportionate as well.

I'm so conflicted about these shoes! I love them - they're super comfortable with a very short break-in period. The padding around the ankle really helps with that. They're attractive, sturdy, and give the support I need with my moderate foot issues. So I want to give them 5 stars! But - twice now I've had to return them because the sole started separating from the shoe within about two months. Zappos is great - they have exchanged them immediately with overnight shipping and no fuss. But these shoes are supposed to last forever! A colleague has the same style and has been wearing them for about ten years with no issues. I don't know if there was just a bad batch or what. I'm now waiting for my third pair to arrive and really hope this flaw doesn't show up again. If it does, however, I'm going to have to give up on this model. Fingers crossed!

The soles wear out in 1-2 months tops look great all the Oxfords with this very thin tread are cheaply made. I returned 6 pairs honest...Dr. Marten said worn out? Kidding right. Keep looking - the old tread made them famous; new tread cheaply made.

I just wish the Dr. Martens came in half sizes. I decided to keep the size UK 5, even though they seem a little big. Again, just wish I could have gotten UK 4.5, that would have been perfect.

I'm split on this shoe. Since Dr. Martens moved the production of their normal shoe lines to China and other Asian countries, the quality has gone down. Initially, the shoe is pretty nice but they don't last very long. I had gotten used to my Docs (made in England) lasting 3 or 4 years, but my last couple of pair barely lasted over a year. Other than that, I like the style of the shoe. After the initial month to month and a half break-in period (which all Doc owners are familiar with), the shoes are comfy. If the shoes lasted longer I'd be super happy.

The style and type of leather are exactly what I wanted, but the shoes are HUGE - at least 2 sizes too big. I'm very disappointed and will be returning them.

The fit was just OK, perhaps a little more loosly fitting than other mens' size 8 I have ordered from you. BUT, the big problem is with the "leather" or whatever the shoe is made from. After trying them on and taking just a few steps, the place on the shoe where the leather bends turned dramatically lighter in color than the rest of the shoe. There appears to be a sub-standard dying of the "leather" or something. I'm assume this would only get worse and the shoe breaks in.

No half sizes so I think that is the issue getting a good fit from Dr. Martin. I wish the Dr. would prescribe me a half size to cure my painful feet. I want to love these, but I cannot.
