These boots are amazing. I have large calves and the 14" diameter did not work for me. I called the Frye company and they told me I could have the shaft stretched up to 2 inches. I had them stretched at our local shoemaker and could not be happier with the purchase.

The color of these boots are darker than they appear on the site. Bought the Redwood Soft Pebbled Full Grain and they are a rich chestnut in color, very beautiful. Ordered them in my regular size and they are seriously tight across my instep and not feeling a bit comfortable on day 1. The length seems fine but the width is definitely binding on my poor tootsies. Will give them a couple more wears around the house, but if they don't significantly relax in the footbed I will sadly have to part with these gorgeous boots.

Best boots ever! Super comfy. I am an athlete so my calves are big, most boots this length do not fit over my calves so I was nervous about the fit! They were slightly snug at first but stretched after two wears! Love them and the speedy delivery from Zappos!

Even though I'm returning these, I will tell you that they are beautiful boots. Typical, well made, high quality Frye. I love looking at them -- they're even comfortable (from what I can tell walking around my house!) although they did feel about a half size too big. My heel was slipping out and there was much too much room in the foot part. I ordered my usual size 7 (which was perfect in the Mimi Scrunch Boot and Jane Strappy)...I don't wear super thick socks, so I definitely could've gone with a size 6.5. The dark brown leather was so beautiful...nice and broken in already, and I suspect they would've softened up even more after a few wearings. But overall this boot was just too "clunky" for me. I don't know if it was the squared off toe or what, but once I had them on I just didn't find them to be very flattering. I know I'm getting a great boot with Frye -- so for the price, I figured I may as well return them and get something I'd wear more often. But it's a great style if it suits you -- I gave them 5 stars because they're great, just not for me!

I love these boots. They are beautiful, quality and fun to wear with everything from dresses to jeans. I am athletic so I have muscular calves. It is true that they fit snugly for those of us with bigger calves. Instead of returning them, which I really did not want to do, I lost five pounds and now they fit great.

These boots are fabulous and worth every dollar. I ended up doing what some people said and ordering a half size smaller and they did not fit. For me I stuck to my natural size of 9.5 and the fit perfect. These boots will last forever and they spice up any outfit I put on. Love! Zappos rules with returns too!

I originally bought one size up because I have wider feet but I ended up exchanging them for my normal size. Great boots, quality leather, love the color, and they break in relatively fast.

Frye Campus 14L: The definitive Frye boot, highest volume sold, over decades. The "one." It fits, feels, and looks great, and it wears like iron. It's a mid-heel, all season boot constructed entirely of thick, gorgeous leather, plus it has a leather-lined interior. Thus, feet breathe = sweaty/stinky feet problem gone. With a few dozen wearings, this boot literally custom-fits to your foot. It's difficult to get on and off initially, as it's supposed to be. RE: Fit- Be smart. This will not lengthen, but it will customize to your foot shape and walking pattern. Don't worry. Even larger feet look much smaller in this boot style. We women have accepted overly painful, tight footwear (even in pricier manufacturers)! We are marketed that our feet must be tiny, delicate, slender, so that's how the shoes are made - and we buy it - thinking smaller shoes will make our feet look smaller (?) - regardless of our actual foot shape. In order to fully appreciate the new experience of a properly fitted boot, we (I) must revise expectations for roomier, properly fitted, quality footwear. (This may be why many reviewers comment that Fryes run big?) Fryes are supposed to be a bit roomy, to allow for swelled feet at the end of the day, 20 extra pounds gained, and even pregnant feet comfort! (Gloriously life-changing for me! Until Frye, I'd spent my entire life cramming my feet into too-small, too-tight, leather outside, but synthetic-lined shoes rationalizing "I have a wide foot.") In contrast, Frye specifies that proper fit is supposed to allow for toe wiggle room, extra height and width (in toe/shoe box), and heel-slippage. If you don't have ample room in your toes, excess room around your foot (room for a thick sock), and your heels don't slip a bit, they're too small! These just ooze money. Garnering near-constant compliments. I have it in sleek Black and neutral Banana. After 16 hours of wear, my feet feel great, and I want to sleep in them - sometimes I do. Campus 14L is the definitive Frye entry experience into Frye footwear. (I now have several dozen pair, and my life-long severe foot pain is gone.) I dance, run, jump, bend, and live in this boot (and I have higher heel Fryes for higher-heeled occasions). Happy feet.

These boots are fantastic quality. The style is big and chunky -- these are not delicate boots -- and the leather is rustic looking. I have worn them with denim skirts, skinny jeans, and boot cut jeans. They look great with everything, but I especially love them with boot cut jeans. They run a little big, but not so much so that I ordered a different size. I just wear thicker socks and they fit well. The footbed has nice cushioning. I wore them straight out-of-the-box for 11 hours with no blisters or foot fatigue. I have slightly wide feet and they fit perfectly. They probably wouldn't work well for someone with narrow feet. The shaft fits my calf well too. I'm a runner and have developed calves, but not overly big calves.

Such a gorgeous boot, I'm completely obsessed. The color and style is beautiful. I ordered a half size down as people recommended and I think that was the right choice, as I think otherwise the boot would slide around. Although I do find it's a bit tight near the toes. So so worth it though.

These boots are fantastic. Rugged, but still stylish. I've gotten compliments every time I've worn them. They will last for years. So worth the price.

I ordered my Frye but only after reading all of the other Zappos reviews. I love them! I have bought so much of my fall/winter wardrobe just to go with the boots. I did buy 1/2 size smaller as recommended on some of the reviews and planned on not wearing them full days at first, but now wear them all day easily.

Beautiful boots. I have a 10 year pair of shorter campus boots in a 7.5 (which is my normal size) which I still wear and love, but wanted a taller pair. I ordered these in a 7.5 and they fit perfectly. The sunrise color is a little brighter than I expected but I have received so many compliments from all different kinds of people. They just simply are beautiful, well made (and made in the USA) boots!

Usually never spend this much on 1 pair of shoes, ordered half size down. Seemed to fit in the toe area but loose in heel. Disappointing to say the least but ordered another size down and well see. Zappos excellent with shipping and returns!

I remember these from 1971 and was so delighted to see a classic kept alive. Tried on the 9 and they were just right (normally wear between an 8.5 - 9).

I am so in love with these boots. I tried on many different Frye styles and several different colors of the Campus 14L (including the lug sole). The dark brown leather is just so sexy and has a vintage feel. I have been wearing them nonstop. The shaft did stretch out a tiny bit and I ordered my regular size 7.5 and they fit perfectly. Enjoy! You won't go wrong with this boot. And Zappos is amazing to deal with!

Love this boot - awesome finish (dark brown), but I have to return them. Why? Because I bought a half-size smaller than my usual size (based on reviews) and they pinch a bit. If you have a high instep and normal-to-wide-ish foot, get your regular size.

love, love, love these! unfortunately I have to exchange my regular 8.5 for a 9, but I cannot wait to wear these all the time! I got the saddle leather color, my very favorite and so, so versatile too!

I continue to wear my Frye campus boots (in Banana yellow) that I've had for over 10 years! When I was ready for my second pair, I actually bought the Black Campus 14L in black 2 years ago but returned them after my husband complained about the chunky look - I should have stuck to my intuition! Instead I bought the Veronica Slouch Boot and after 2 years, I am disappointed with the quality of the Veronica (thinner leather & sole deteriorated quickly) compared to the Campus (Made in USA) boot with the leather sole. So, I'm back 2 years later, buying the exact same boot I originally wanted in 2008 and now I'm definitely going to keep them! I ordered a size 8.5 & 9 to compare sizes. I'm returning the 9. I am a long-time fan of Frye and happy to have a new pair in my closet again! Thanks Zappos for yet again, excellent and prompt customer service.

Boots fit great. I like the distressed look. Very comfortable. Boot is a bit on the heavy side but I expected it.

My first Frye pair. I do love the look. I was worried the black would be too dark but they are not. I am a size 10 - true size 10 and these fit just right. A little bit of room to move, which I like. I have over a dozen pair of boots and would always recommend buying boots with a little bit of extra room (for wearing thick socks in winter or tucking in jeans, etc.). Here in TX it can get warm all year and feet tend to swell a bit, so having any shoes with some extra room is good. I have long calves, not thick, and these are a little tight at the top but assume they will stretch a bit once I start wearing them on a regular basis. They look really good over black tights and under boot cut jeans. Overall, very pleased. Have over a dozen pair of boots and these are very comfortable.

Fantastic! I'm a lover of Frye boots and have always wanted a pair of the campus boots. My mom wore these when I was growing up, and I'm 42. That's a testament to how these are timeless. Definitely go a half size down. I normally wear an 8, but always take a 7.5 in Frye. I have several pairs: harness, veronica slouch, carson ect. Start off going down a half size and send them back if they are too small. Listen to the reviews, so you won't kick yourself when they arrive and they don't fit. Yes, the heel is loose but nothing uncomfortable. All these boots fit me with a loose heal. I've read other reviews that they are hard to get on, this is not so for me. They were very easy to on and off. Comfortable off the bat, no break in time needed. I bought the dark brown and my mom always had the golden color! Both are great! Buy them and tuck them in skinny jeans, you'll be a big hit!

These are the best boots ever! They are extremely comfortable and you can wear them with anything. I love them and get compliments all of the time!
