I got these as a gift. The color isn’t the banana shade, it’s a warm golden tan. I see a lot of reviews saying to go down half a size...I disagree. I can wear a 7 in some tennis shoes, converse, looser fitting shoes like moccasins...but in most shoes I am a 7.5, and in Frye boots - harness, engineer, roper - I am a solid 7.5. I got these in a 7.5 and they fit perfectly - but only with thin socks. So I would say they run a little on the smaller side, especially when brand new, before you break them in. If you like your boots roomier or want to wear them with thick socks, then size up, maybe a half size. Another important tip -I have slender legs and a small calf circumference. The uppers on these boots come just up to the widest part of my calf, which is 14 inches, and they are pretty form fitting. I am not sure if the shafts are wider in higher sizes, but in the 7.5, I have very little room, just enough to wear them over skinny jeans or leggings. If you have wide calves, they do make this boot in a wide calf version....or, any leather repair or boot cobbler could stretch them a little. Like some other Frye styles, they are stiff, especially the foot part, and will need some break in time. The uppers are sturdy but soft, thick leather. If you have really high arches, these may not be very comfortable. In fact, the foot bed is barely cushioned at all. If you want to add inserts, again, go up at least a half size. Generally, I am pleased. They look really cool on, and I think they are very versatile - today I’m wearing them with flare jeans, but they will also look good over slim jeans and leggings, or with skirts.

Love these boots! These are my 8th pair of Fryes and they do not disappoint. I just wish I bought them sooner! The leather quality is amazing- thick, beautiful color, and smells great. I have thin calves and they fit perfectly with a little bit of space so I could wear jeans if I wanted to. They look so cute with skirts, dresses, and shorts. For reference I'm usually a 10/10.5 and the 10 fit perfectly.

If there ever were a more gorgeous boot, I have not seen it. The smell of the buttery leather, the shape, the smooth soles... footwear artistry. However, I have chunky little calves, and the 14" diameter simply isn't large enough for me to sausage my legs into. There isn't a zipper or a way to adjust the size, so I'm sadly having to return them. Other than that, they are my dream-boot. I'm crushed. Customer care was very kind to me and he let me know that since Frye Boots are so popular, they frequently place orders so I should be able to find another pair that's better suited to my legs.

It never occurred to me that anything could ever top the Engineers -- they're the coolest, roughest, toughest, awesomest little Jack Russell terriers of the boot world. When you want to rock similar style with a slight tweak in attitude, the Campus Boots are your next move. They are literally comfortable out of the box, the leather is rich and supple, and the stacked heels are the perfect height to keep your pants cuffs off the ground and your outfit on the farthest side of casual. If you happen to rely on public trans, you're in for a serious treat because no Arctic blast can penetrate these boots. Expensive, yes. Worth it, Yes. These are not the boots for those shorter in the lower leg or wider in the calf. And super tight jeans will hug the tops of the shafts if you choose not to tuck. I'm a 7.5 [9.5"] by most brand standards, but always a 7 in Frye.

What a pleasure! I am a typical size 8; but have lately needed a wide shoe. As a result I usually order an 8 1/2 in a shoe if I cannot get a "wide" in an 8. When I ordered the Frye boot, I took a chance and ordered a regular 8. Knowing that Zappos always honored returns, I figured no harm, no foul. When the boots arrived, I was very pleased to find out that the 8M was a perfect fit. The quality in these boots are fantastic; they will certainly last a lifetime. The leather is pliable and the boots are already conforming to my feet. If you have any hesitations about size, I would suggest you go with your normal shoe size. You can always exchange them with Zappo's excellent policy.

Couldn't be happier - These boots are spectacular. They slipped right on my feet and broke right in. Not only are they comfortable but really beautiful in design and construction. I'm sure they will last a long time. Also, they go with just about everything in my closet, to boot! I currently vassilate between a size 7 and 8 but the 7/12 was perfect.

Beautiful boots, the saddle is such a nice color and the leather sole is luxurious. The leather upper is high quality and has that authentic, well-crafted smell! Some examples of these boots have shown a veiny color. Both pairs I received had very little of this. Be warned, leather soles can be stiff and take a few wears to break in. I wear a 5.5/6, usually a size 5.5 in dress shoes and sandals, a size 6 in boots and a size 6.5 in running shoes. The size 6 in these boots was too large, though difficult to tell because the thick leather in their construction was stiff and I wanted to be able to exchange them if I needed to size down. I ordered a second pair, a size 5.5, to compare - not an easy decision at $500 per pair! The size 5.5 is better and Zappos paid to ship the size 6 back. Some have commented about the narrow shaft and it’s true; if you have wider calves, you may need the help of a cobbler to stretch the shaft. I do not have wide calves so this is more of a good fit for me in that they do not gape open and still will fit over leggings and skim cut jeans. I have high arches and I’m surprised they slip on with no problem despite not having a side zipper. They do not have great padding in the insole and I did attach heal pads in the heal (to keep them from slipping) and low profile arch supports, improving the comfort.

I’m between an 8.5 & 9. Almost always a 9 in Frye. I almost ordered these in 8.5 because of the reviews, but opted for 9 instead & it’s perfect! A little heel slip is normal & if you need to, put a little heel pad inside the shoe. But with any sort of real sock, these would have been too small had I sized down. (My foot is neither wide, nor narrow, and I do not have a high arch. I’m a solid 39 in Euro sizing.) As for boot shaft, my not so skinny calves fit fine in these with bo squeeze. Now, for those drooling & pining over these beauties… they are worth every stinking penny! They are timeless, almost seasonless, & infinitely cool. They are Stevie Nicks boho perfection with a 70s dress or skirt. They also quickly make summer pieces fall worthy! Retro knee length gouchos/culottes? Delicious with these and a chunky sweater. Linen maxi dress? Throw a large sweater over and pair these… brilliant! Just do it.

The boots fit perfectly! The color is a beautiful, rich brown. The stacked heel is stylish and gives you just enough height without feeling uncomfortable.

I have had these boots for 14 years in the dark brown color (got them when I was 15!) and have worn them every year all fall & winter long. I remember a slight break in period the first year as the boots are fairly stiff but they are so classic and well made that I have never had to take them in for repair, and they still look new. Better yet, I get compliments on them every time I wear them. Back in high school they had the boot in a teal color, which I begged for for Christmas, and instead my mom got me the brown. I was a bit disappointed day-of, but looking back I am SO grateful, because these boots will never go out of style!

I have two pair of Campus, one current style and one pair from the 70's. They are different. But for the current Campus, they are still awesome. If you're not used to waring this type of shoe, you will need to break them in and they may not seem comfortable at first. Use leather conditioner and break them in at home. Wear them till they hurt, then take them off. If you just can't wait to wear them to work, take another pair of shoes with you. As for sizing, I would suggest trying them on at a local store if one near you carries them. I wear a 7 and did get a 7 in the Campus but I also use a shoe cushion to give them a little extra softness. Buy from Zappos, they have an excellent return / exchange policy. This type of boot may feel a little loose at first, be aware that a broken in pair of Frye boots does not fit the same as a brand new pair. They will conform to your foot in time. If you've got larger calves, this part of the boot can be stretched, just take them in to your local shoe repair shop if you don't feel comfortable doing this on your own. They may seem expensive initially but I've also got a pair that I've had since the 70's. Still in great shape. They've got leather soles so they have been re-soled 2 or 3 times but how many pair of shoes do you have that are 40 years old and still going strong! Just use a good quality leather conditioner on them from time to time and they'll last a long, long time.

I love these boots. They are such amazing quality. Very beautiful and pretty comfortable. I have wide toes and they get a little squished by the boots. Also, there is a scratchy seam in the leather at the top of the boot, but a friend told me that a little bit of moleskin applied over those spots will help.

These boots were very popular in the 1970s, when I was in high school. I'm happy to say they're still made with the same style and quality as they were back then! I ordered my usual size, and the fit was perfect for me. There was even a little extra room to fit my orthotics. I like to wear a medium-weight knee sock with boots, and they felt nice and comfy with my favorite socks. This is a well-made boot that should last the wearer a lifetime. Perfect with jeans or a below-the-knee skirt. You can't go wrong with Frye boots!

I love these boots. I did have to go a half size down though. Started with my regular size but the boots stretched after a couple of wears. The color is beautiful and they are quite comfortable.

I was so excited to receive my Frye Campus 14L boots yesterday (in banana), as I too have been coveting these babies for a few years before making the purchase a couple days ago. Unlike a lot of reviewers, I ordered my usual shoe size (an 8M) because my feet are a little on the wide side. When I first put the boots on, I thought they were a little too loose in the heal area and decided to exchange for a 1/2 size smaller. But after trying them on again with socks and realizing that everywhere else beside the heel felt quite snug and the heel slippage was much less with socks on, I decided to keep the size 8's and am proudly wearing them right now as I type this. I simply love these boots. I have muscular calves but have no problem with tightness in that area. These are my 2nd pair of Frye boots and consider these an investment for my feet.

I ordered these while looking for a casual, leather boot. After reading previous reviews, I ordered a 7, though I normally wear a 7.5. They came and fit perfectly. I returned them only because the Veronica Slouch was more what I was looking for, with its buckles and style. The 14L is a simple, low heel boot. Beautiful leather, very comfortable. Loved the hidden inner straps to pull the boot on.

I am kind of obsessed with this boot. I ordered the saddle color and it is a perfect neutral brown, with a hint of reddish warmness(!). Amazing for straight leg or skinny jeans and casual dresses. It's not too cowboy and has its own fabulous look. I have had issues with the sizing of other Fryes - my normal shoe size is 7.5. I have the Engineer 8r in a 7, and Carson shorties in 6.5. With the Campus, the 7 is a perfect, roomy fit. I could fit a thicker sock if I needed too. I would say this one runs 1/2 to a full size too large. People who have tried on Fryes will know what to do with this info - for others it's simply trial and error! Campus 14L were worth every penny and I'm thrilled to have them!

These boots are absolutely beautiful. I ordered my true size which is an 8. They fit well, but I do have to wear socks if I wear tights. This is fine since I live in a cold climate...keeps my feet extra warm! I have gotten lots of compliments on them. The color is really nice and neutral. Worth the splurge! I'll wear them for years and years to come.

I just received these boots in Banana Leather and I am in love! The color is so unique and I can't wait to where them into the Spring. I have two other pairs of Frye boots (Harness and Lace-ups) so I knew to order a 7.5 (I am typically an 8 in boots). Very stiff when you first get them, but I know from past experience that they will loosen up nicely. I also want to comment on the excellent service I received from Zappos. Not only was my shipping free, but since this was my first order I was upgraded to VIP and was eligible for 1-Day shipping. I ordered my boots at 8 p.m. last night and they were on my doorstep by 2 p.m. today! That is service that can not be beat! I will now only use Zappos for my online shoe purchases.

I love the boots! I read the other reviews and bought a full size down. At first, they were hard to put on and felt a bit tight but after wearing them for a couple of days now, the leather is starting to loosen up. I probably should have just bought a pair 1/2 size larger, then a full size. definitely worth the money because you can tell that these boots are made to last. I'm already thinking about getting another pair!
