I have owned the Mephisto Storm for 4 years and the leather and soles show little wear. The shoe is roomy in the toe area and the lacing has no pressure points. They pretty much feel like slippers. But like slippers the arch support is barely there. Pick up some replacement insoles that match your foot and you have an awesome pair of shoes that will easily give you 5 years.

This is one of the best walking shoes on this planet! The storm made with the best leather and a very good cushioned shock absorbing sole I plan on purchasing another. The Mephisto match is another good choice.

Great shoes but poor arch support for those with high arches. One of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and almost worth the price since I am someone who remains on their feet 10-12 hours a day in the lab. I am a grad student, so I found the price a bit too steep. Anyhow, when you purchase such an expensive shoe you expect near perfection. However, I found that these shoes were almost entirely deficient in arch support. I have just placed an order for a Birkenstock arch support. Hope that fixes the issue.

I bought these for my husband after listening to him complaining about his feet hurting while traveling in Europe. He had purchased a pair of $140 walking shoes with a great reputation, but they just did not feel good when during extensive traveling and walking. He had tried on the Mephisto Storm and liked it, but just didn't feel he could justify the price. They arrived a day after I ordered them (thank you, Zappos) and he loved them. We just returned from a week in The Netherlands and all he could say is how great his feet felt and how glad he was that I had ordered them for him. He is a frugal guy and he is so excited that Mephisto has a reconditioning program. He has also started wearing them when he is running errands, so I know he really likes them!

Mephisto makes several great shoes, but these are definitely the most comfortable. I purchased these for my trip to Europe this year and they were wonderful to wear. They are worth the extra cost. Recommend that you try them on to insure that the size is correct a size, they tend to be a half size larger than other shoes of the same size.
I'd also recommend:
Ecco (the Sea Walker in paticular. Alan Edmonds for confortable dress shoes.

These shoes are great! The top eyelet tore out of my first pair in the first week, but Zappos replaced them in a blink of an eye. I'm not completely sure, but I believe the original pair was made in Portugal and my current pair was made in France. Perhaps the country of origin does affect the quality? Anyhow, this is my third pair of Mephistos and they are the best shoes for my feet. I ordered a half size smaller in the Sstorm and that suits me fine.

Wore them for a few hours around the house... The toe area is huge... I am a "D" width and the shoes were definitely large in the toe box, right below the lowest lace area. When I walked the crease cut into the top of my toes, as there was just too much leather bunched up. Great construction, good looking and comfortable... I'm hoping to exchange for another pair and hope they don't bind like this pair does.

First of all, the shipping from Zappos was like "greased lightning" and it was free! This is my second pair of Mephisto Storm's. My first pair (same color) in the camel rainbuck are like brand new. I lucked out with this pair as these were on sale. I absolutely love this shoe, and a 9.5 fits perfect. I normally wear a 10 but Mephisto's run a bit large so keep that in mind. The materials are superb, better than any shoes I have owned including Ecco's which are good shoes but after you wear this shoe it just seems better than my other walkers, casual shoes. Don't expect them to feel ultra cushy because they are cushioned but not too much so that your feet are not properly supported. Great shoe and I love this camel rainbuck color. I wear them for casual use. When I walk for exercise I go with a gym type walking shoe.

Mephisto shoes are the best. I have a great deal of trouble finding shoes that do not hurt my feet. I found my first pair in a shoe store in Seattle when I was touring and my feet were killing me. The Mephistos saved that trip. I wear them to work EVERY day, no foot pain at the end of the day. Not a gorgeous shoe, but please do not change them.

Due to many surgeries in my feet, walking is limited and difficult; choosing shoes for me doesn't come easy. But this particular style of shoes offers me great arch support. I really like them!

These may be not be the most sexy-looking shoe what with the rounded front, but they are comfy: no pinching on the laces, nice roominess up front for toe-wiggling, cushy sole, cushy top, not too much lift off the back...a little break-in for my right ankle: just bend the side in and out for a bit. Don't know how light they are in hot weather, but feet feel protected. A little sleeker at the front and they would be perfect.

The Abel is probably the best shoe ever made. It offers incredible support in the arch and instep. Due to the Goodyear welt along side of the shoe, you can stand straighter without pronation. The toe box is extra wide and roomy. The shoe fits as well as a glove. My podiatrist was greatly impressed with the perfect way the shoe cradles the foot. I also purchased a pair of "Storm" at the same time. They are a sportier shoe with a bit of a wider toe. However; they just don't fit as well.
