Like other Mephisto styles better - I love the footbed, very good for high arches that need support. I have the Helen and love that shoe. I was somewhat disappointed with this shoe because I wanted to adjust the strap over my toes smaller as there is another hole -- but the strap is too thick in the design to be able to adjust down -- so why have the buckle there? I also agree that the straps is rough and hard on the toes. Overall just not as comfortable as the Mephisto Helen style.

Mephisto review - The only complaint I have is that the leather straps are rough on the under side and do not seem to be as high a quality leather as other Mephisto shoes I have bought in stores. I had to sand the inside of the straps to make them acceptable and on reflection probably should have returned them.

I own three pairs of Mephisto which I can wear. Mephisto EU 35 is a little large for me, but I can wear them, especially if they are more enclosed or adjustable. This style measures a full 2 cm larger than my other (older) styles, and a little wider. Mephisto tells me they no longer use the smaller lasts (molds for base/sole) of the styles that fit me. So it seems likely Mephisto is yet another brand which no longer accommodates small footed people. Getting shoes is increasingly hopeless.

I have had a pair of Mephisto sandals for years and needed new ones. Ordered both the Hannel and the Helen and the leather on both was rough, sharp and very uncomfortable. Don't know what happened but won't buy Mephisto again.

I have worn Hannel sandals for years. They are my knock around summer sandals and my slippers year round. The rear strap was oddly constructed on the pair I just received. The rear strap forms a Y at the arch of your foot. The leather was too long on the part of the Y that is more towards the toe. So front part of that strap gapped out oddly. Hoping it's just a defect in that pair! Ordering another one.

Ordered 8M, my usual size. length was fine but I needed to tighten both straps to the last hole and so am returning the sandals. In no time at all, the shoes would stretch and would be too wide again.

I am sorry to say that the brown leather is very stiff and is likely to cause blisters! I’m considering returning them. My feet and skin are very sensitive and I just don’t think I can tolerate them. I’m so disappointed. I love the style and the footbed, and have purchased the black nubuck and another material with a gold printed finish in the same sandal style. None of them ever felt like the straps were cutting into my skin when I first put them on. They’ve always been wearable from the start, until this pair.

I have been really disappointed with the last couple of Mephisto Hannels I've ordered. They seemed to have changed the material because they are scratchy on my foot and the strap closest to my toes irritates the top of my foot. I have foot issues and need good arch support so I have been wearing Mephisto Hannels for many years successfully. Something has changed so unfortunately I will return these.

This was one of the most comfortable shoes I ever wore. However, the shoe broke within about 3 to 4 months of purchasing it. Both the sole of both shoes broke on the side right between the two front straps. The store where I bought them told me that it had happened to two other customers as well. I was refunded my money, but I was very disappointed that I could not count on this style to last.

Totally different fit than HELEN - I thought that this shoe would have the same comfort as the marvelous Helen Mephisto. I was wrong. I have had foot pain since the first day of wearing. This is a disappointment as I have been a faithful Mephisto customer for many years. I have tried adjusting the straps but that does not work. This is just something that bothers my feet in this shoe. Consequently, I have only worn them twice. After the first time, I thought that it was something that I was not used to. After wearing it a second time, I have concluded it is the shoe.

The leather cut into my toes. It's a shame because I love Mephisto sandals.

These had been worn by a previous customer. Very disappointed to receive these with someone else’s toe stains. Yuck!

It was suggests to "up" a size but I found that not so. The size that would fit was very uncomfortable, nothing like the old hannels. The straps were not in the right place for my foot. Thank goodness I didn't row out my old pair! They look really worn but are still comfortable.

I’ve been buying these shoes for many years and have loved them. Unfortunately, this year I’ve ordered 2 pairs from Zappos and both were defective. One pair had clearly been worn as the leather strap had worn in around the buckle. The second pair had its leather straps cut in a different shape around my foot than the first pair and pinched when I walked. Am really disappointed as I usually love these sandals.

I am usually a fan of Mephisto and the sandals do usually stretch a bit. But this sandal is RIDICULOUS. The leather stretched so much that I can no longer wear it after owning it only one month. In addition, the straps leave black all over my feet every time I wear them. Badly done, Mephisto. Of course Zappos made it right--I can't return an item after wearing it, but they offered a generous compromise.

I am very disappointed. I tried wearing these and something just did not feel the same as my Mephisto shoes in the past. Well, it seems these are no longer made in France. They are made in Portugal and they are definitely inferior and not comfortable at all. Back to the drawing board to find a comfortable sandal for the summer that I can actually walk in.

The metal buckle broke. I bought a pair of these a couple of years ago, and I loved them -- but about six months ago the metal buckle broke in two on the arch strap on one of the sandals. The shoes themselves are in good condition, but useless without the buckle. (Chinese metal?) I don't want to buy another Mephisto product now -- I have a ten year old pair of Gore-tex lined Mephisto boots made with French leather, that I still have resoled and I love, but the brand seems to be deteriorating now.
