The soles of these shoes are disappointing, and certainly not what the original topsiders had. I have had two pair in the past 4 years, and after 1 1/2 to 2 years, the soles have become so slippery that they are completely unusable as a boat shoe. Initially, they grip well, but after a season they loose the "grippiness" and become as slippery as ice skates on ice. When I inquire about this with the Sperry company, they assure me that they have never had this complaint before. I get the feeling that they are hiding something.

I have been buying this shoe since the late '80's. Sperry used to make a comfortable, durable shoe that lasted for years. However, the last three pairs that I bought have fallen apart, faster each time. They now use very poor materials. The sole material wears faster and separates from the shoe; the last pair separated in under 6 months of moderate wear. I used to love these things, but I will never buy another.

I love Sperry's but this show is the most uncomfortable Top-Sider I have ever owned. It provided no support and after walking in it for more than 1/2 hour my entire body was sore. I have a pair that looks just like this one but with much more support and comfort.

Be careful ordering online. Mine came scuffed up and scratched. I feel like they dump defective shoes on online customers and hope they'll be too lazy to return them.

I purchased this particular top sider in a local West Marine retail store in the spring of 2011. What I found unusual is the ribbed sole. The color is an off white not the clear white I expected, and the rubber composition is dense and hard to the touch providing an extremely slick surface both to feel and to walk upon. This particular shoe has turned out to be highly unsafe as I have slipped and fallen more than once notwithstanding the ground or floor surface. I will attempt to have Sperry examine my pair to prevent others from going or staying in circulation. I am doubtful of success, however. .

The soles of these shoes are so slippery that I wouldn't dare to go on a boat in them! the rubber seems to be hard and resists gripping on any surface. I even tried scuffing them with sandpaper to no avail. They are totally worthless for anything but a wipeout.

The leather was so thin that when the shoe was put on the top flap folded under. I had to untie it, pull it up, and re-tie, defeating the purpose of a slip-on shoe. I returned them to Sperry and got a better, but not perfect pair. I'm not going to get Sperry anymore.

The construction is cheap feeling, there is lots of rough sewing that was not cut down to the leather, so there are threads that poke your feet, and after ordering these shoes for a second time in a width up from 13M to 13W, they still do not fit. These were not made for truly big feet. That is so disappointing. The cost is paying for brand recognition alone. I have found better shoes before at Kohl's that were not brand name. The high quality images on this site are misleading.

I will probably throw these shoes away. I wore them around the house and liked the look of them. However, once I went outside, I realized that the bottom of the shoe was way too thin. I feel every little thing that I walk on. In addition, since the soles are so thin, it's just not comfortable if you need to walk any distance.

I ordered a pair of the oatmeal colored ones for my boyfriend. When they came in they already had multiple scuff marks on both shoes and when put side by side the tops of each shoe did not match in color. One of the shoes was darker than the other.

I have been searching for a replacement for my old "original Boat shoes" in every retail store around and have not found anything like the old ones - the numbers inside are: 0195214 D-3 CH08 What I ordered from you was a pair of Amaretto shoes which bled all over my feet and socks, Where can i get a pair of 0195214

My wife and I ordered shoes on line as an anniversary gift to each other. We own a large power boat and thought these shoes would be great on and off the boat. They shipped quickly, in time for us to enjoy them the next weekend on the boat. Unfortunately, my shoes were way too narrow to be comfortable. I tried stretching them out and wore them for about a week, however even if they do stretch to be comfortable enough to wear, the leather insert came unglued after just 2 wearings and the athletic shoe insert that was under the leather insert came unglued after another day or two. They look like the Top-Siders of old, but I believe that ship has sailed.

I've been trying to buy a new pair of AO's, but someone at Sperry has decided that it's OK if the footbed ends in a hard, elevated ridge, cutting across the bottom of your foot from left-to-right. Well, it's not OK... it's noticeably uncomfortable. I always bought Sperry AO topsiders because they're comfortable, but there's nothing comfortable about that. Maybe they all aren't being made like that, but all of the ones I've tried-on lately are. I highly recommend checking this out in any pair you're interested in, before buying them.

Sperry, why did you change the color of Sahara. It was a beautiful medium brown, and now it is light brown/tan. Why was this change made? PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK - other people are telling me this too it's not just me

I expected the usual no problem attitude I expect of Sperry shoes. The shoe just doesn't fit! I believe this shoe was mis-sized. I expected the quality I usually find when I purchase Sperry shoes from a shoe store! Unfortunately I must return them! I am somewhat apprehensive about requesting a replacement!

The tanning solution or dye used in the manufacture of the shoes stained a pair of socks I put on before putting on the shoes for a couple of hours as I walked around the house to get the feel of them. The staining is so severe that after laundering the socks the stains will not come out. I'm glad I had the socks on. I have never (8+ pairs of Top-Siders over 30 years of boating/sailing) experienced this. Someone needs to tighten-up on quality control or warn customers of this potential problem (I'd opt for the former). They are on their way back to you. You might note the staining on the shipping shoe trees that I should have noted before putting them on. I am very, very disappointed. REM

The leather bled through to my socks the first day I put them on my feet. They smelled and were greasy. I have been wearing this brand of top sides for over 20 years, and this is the first time I have ever had an issue with them.

Was looking for a classic navy blue boat shoe, but didn't realize from online photo just how wrinkled this leather show is in real life. I much prefer other brands that have done navy boat shoes with smooth leather, though avoid TOP MAN, they are cheaply made.
