This is not the same shoe. The other reviewers are right. It's much cheaper...I can't figure out exactly what has changed, it's just flimsier and not the same. It seems like a cheap knock off of a Jack Purcell. Sad. I've been wearing them for 20 years, now I have to find a new shoe!

boo. In the past, I bought the Jack Purcell's because of the increased padding and arch support. Now the insoles are as crappy as the chucks. Meh. Looking for a different brand of shoe now.

Like the other reviewers who are long-time Jack Purcell wearers, I'm disappointed Converse/Nike cut corners on the quality and style of the current version of my favorite white go-with-anything shoe. For reference, I started wearing Purcells in 1994. I'm on my sixth pair. The eyelets are in the wrong place; the smile is wrong; the tongue is longer; the toe box is bigger; the sole less stiff. Still, I can't quit these shoes and still haven't found another white shoe that I love as much as the old version of the Jack Purcell, therefore I will continue to wear them. Nike, here's a hint - throwback. Please.

Not the shoe it used to be. Construction and materials are really cheap. Also, toe is narrow and hurts top of my foot long after breaking in. Wish Converse (er, Nike) would get with it. Chucks all day over these.

This shoe is not soft. It hurt my feet. The reinforced toe was uncomfortable and the shoe cut into my skin. It offers no support and is too wide for me. Great looking though.

Nice enough shoes, but the toe box for the Purcell is definitely tighter than for regular Converse. I had to go up nearly 3 sizes from what I normally wear in Converse for these to fit.

This is an extremely comfortable shoe, but the picture is misleading. The sole is a cream color that differs from the shoe lace. In addition there is an extra layer of shoe sole at the tip above where the toes are that make the shoe look bulky. Just wasn't what I was expecting so returning.

Bought these for my son for school, on Zappos because we couldn't find this shoe in local stores in his size. Love Zappos' selection! Converse is a cute shoe, I understand why kids like them. But they are not made to be durable, unfortunately. They wear out quickly. It's a shame, too, because Converse could easily increase the quality and durability with little increase in cost to produce.

These shoes are classics. They look great with jeans, shorts, even capris. Unfortunately they are not made like they used to be. They have never really had any arch support or a food insole, but now they are even worse. They are strictly stiff canvas that's cut way to high on the heel and rubs you raw. The toe is now one solid peace of rubber (it used to be made up of 2 or 3). Even the laces are cheap. I have a pair that are about 10 years old that I can no longer wear and bought these as a replacement. Don't do it get some Sperrys or something else that is made with comfort and quality in mind.

These shoes are super comfortable and light but a bit masculine for my tastes. Perhaps because there is less detailing, they have less dress-up potential than regular Converse sneakers. They go well with casual shorts, are okay with skinny jeans, and would probably be better with straight-leg jeans. I would not recommend wearing them with dresses.

The shoe would be good if it wasn't for the size being off. I will be returning this purchase. I was really excited to find this shoe. I wore a pair of these in the 70's and 80's. They lasted great. I will be trying another size. I'm sure that I could rate this procuct higher if it fit right.

These shoes are cute and have great arch support. However, I purchased them with the intention of wearing them as shoes to walk around in all day. They gave me really bad blisters in my heel and were generally uncomfortable after I wore them for more than a couple of hours.

I purchased this shoes for my father. The shoe runs half a size smaller and we exchanged it without a breeze thanks to Zappos amazing service. Unfortunately the shoes weren't comfortable and caused blisters in his feet at the first use. I contacted Zappos and their great customer service solved the problem. Thanks!

I wear women\'s size 12W (C or D width usually). I ordered these in a men\'s 12 since typically sneakers fit small on me. These fit fine, but I will return them because they are not flattering - the white toe looks too much like a clown shoe on my big foot, and I need something more understated.

These look great, but man are they small for their size. I wear a 12 normally in Converses and that’s a little large -- I can wear a really bulky sock and be fine -- and these in 12 pinch across the foot and the toebox is right there. They do look great.

Felt a half size bigger than what I thought it would be. Very narrow and not too comfortable. I love Zappos though and they got here in one day... so worth the try!

Classic Look and Feel: WYSIWYG - I love simple things, and this shoe is simple. It is a well-made (in Vietnam, of all places) canvas and rubber gym shoe -- a classic design reproduced at a premium price. Don't expect any extra comfort, though there is a very tiny bit of padding on the tongue. The shoe (with athletic socks) feels slightly smaller than other shoes the same size. If you plan on going sockless, order your regular size.

8.5 too big 8 too small - I'm pretty disappointed with the shoe overall. I'm usually an 8.5, but those looked like boats on my feet so I ordered the 8, which fit great length-wise, but they are too narrow and gave me blisters.

Alright - This shoe was alright it was 1/2 a size too big. They also make your foot look large. But they are very comfortable.

Old School Tennies (Mine are white) This is what I wore almost exclusively, in the 60's and 70's, from elementary school through senior high. My purchase was an attempt to re-live some of that time. The shoes have changed, predictably. I suppose for the better - lining, support, etc. I wish they came in widths. I've chosen too narrow to wear with socks in order to avoid excessive length. This will give me appearance more casual than real. Perhaps for the better?

Argh, still too small - My actual shoe size is 7.5 but my feet are really wide. I wear a size 9 Chuck Taylor, but a size 40 (7.5) Birkenstock is too big (and a size 39 is almost too small but I hope they break in a little more) so this tells me that shoe size numbers are more or less imaginary. Last year I got size 8.5 of this shoe and realized too late to return them that they were too small unless I wear really thin socks. So I ordered a size 9 pair of JP and inexplicably these felt even smaller than the 8.5, so I am returning them and getting another (sigh) pair of Chucks. Oh and like Zappos needs more plugs, but the two pairs of shoes I ordered yesterday came overnight from KY to MA (yay!) and the JPs are going back tonight thanks to free returns.

Good looks, bad insoles - These shoes look good with anything. The only problem is that the updated CP version has a very thick insole. The rest of the shoe has the same dimensions as the original, though, so there is less foot room. The result was pinched toes. I had to remove the insole and replace it with a thinner one from a pair of running shoes. After that they were great. VERY fast delivery.

Converse's Jack Purcell - The new insole makes it so the shoe runs 1/2 size too small. I had to remove the insole and put in thinner ones. Great shoe but make sure you get it a 1/2 size bigger than what you're used to.

Nice looking, not so comfortable - I know most would disagree, but I found these less comfortable than the classic Converse. Also the shoelaces are way too long and require double knots for me. 'Tis a sad day.

Room for improvement. These shoes look great with jeans, chinos, and shorts but are not very comfortable. I can tolerate them for a few hours, but I would not want to walk all day in them. I wish the makers of these retro and fashion sneakers would make them as comfortable as real athletic sneakers.
