I use this backpack for college classes, and as a biology major, I have a lot of books to keep up with. The largest slot in the back is perfect for my laptop, and the 2nd largest slot holds all my books. I know books are heavy, but the backpack is very durable and holds it all well. At first it looked big for my frame, but after putting everything into it, it's not too bad. It looked kind of long (vertically). I dislike that it doesn't stand on it's own, so I have to lean it on something. This backpack would be great for a hike or anything outdoors. The pockets on the sides hold my large drink cups, and the front pocket can carry really large drink cups. I've never had a North Face backpack before, but I like the Recon style but especially the color. I chose the backpack for the color and style. The color is brighter in person versus darker, but it's still a forest green color. I'm very pleased!

The first thing I did for the new school year was buy this amazing backpack. This backpack is stylish, super comfortable, and just perfect for a college student.

Use for college. Great and has plenty of room for books and laptop. Wish the shoulder straps were more padded though.

The main reason I purchased this back pack was for school. The color selection is huge, has a durable bottom and every area is just designed almost flawlessly. Also, with the lifetime warranty you can't beat it..

Great backpack for the school year. Will use for at least 2-3 years, that's how durable it is.

I use this back pack for my MacBook and books for grad school.

I had this backpack years ago and I just bought a new one and the quality has decreased tremendously. The straps are stiff and hurt my shoulders and the pockets are set up so wrong that my stuff gets lost in the bag. I will never buy another North Face backpack

I use this product for school. It has enough pockets for all of my supplies. It is the perfect bookbag for school. I will continue to buy north face products.

I bike to school and it is soo comfortable on my back while biking. Its roomy, organizational, sturdy (my 15 inch laptop fits comfortably & is protected). I loveeeee love love the look. That's primarily why I bought it. Its sportsy but edgy. I have room for my school supplies, water bottles, and the SUPPORT it gives while carrying all these things is amazing. I will probably be using it when I travel home as well. Overall a great product for the price!

The backpack is comfortable, has a ton of storage, great for school, and it does not look like a freshman backpack.

This backpack is not only great quality, but such a great design and definitely stands out!! There are so many pockets and so many choices of colors to chose for the recon backpack!! Hopefully this backpack will last long, and from seeing the quality I really think it will!!

Great looking and durable backpack for school

First I love the color and the compartments this backpack offers. I do thinks it feels small for my books though. It's feels sort of high on my back. The backpack hits my neck. Might wear down after use.

Great for school!

I love this backpack for a bunch of reasons. Namely, the design in both style and functionality is a perfectly balanced. In the Adirondacks where I hike, there are many rock scrambles where I'm on all fours scaling a rock face. The waist and chest straps help to keep the bag in place instead of sliding to the right or left and throwing off my balance. I like it a lot more than the tactical style bag I was using, which had the same straps but it was flimsy so even if the bag stayed put, the things in my bag would shift and throw me off balance. This bag is more rigid. I love how lightweight it is too. With nothing in it, I barely feel it on my back. It is also very well built. The zippers are chunky and don't feel cheap and the webbing straps feel premium. I love the design. I bought the bold red color which looks great. I like that TNF is going back to the bold color schemes again. The past few years everything was either earthy or neutrals. I much prefer those bold colors that portray adventure better than Urban Navy. Anyway, I like the SOS whistle incorporated into the chest strap too. That's handy if you ever become lost and need help so that's a nice touch. Not sure it's effective in scaring away bears though. And finally, I like the vented and padded shoulder straps and back pad. It really helps to keep my body temp down on strenuous hikes.
