Great for school and trips

A book bag for school. It is heavy before it is filled.

I use this backpack for school and it drives me nuts that I always have to battle putting my laptop in the tight laptop compartment. I have a neoprene cover so it's hard to slide in. I had a Recon before and the laptop compartment was stretchable so I liked that better. In my backpack I can only fit max 3 textbooks, a notebook and my pen bag. Compared to the other model which more spacious. Might be best suitable for hikers with light loads not for students.

Well made, lots of compartments, safe compartment for iPad or small laptop. Also comfortable and looks great.

I am a college student and this backpack is one of the best investments I have ever made. It distributes weight evenly and is so lightweight I feel like I am carrying nothing on my back. It fits all of my heavy textbooks effortlessly and I don't feel like I have to worry about it breaking under the weight (other backpacks have done that to me).

I am a college student on a urban campus and walk a lot. I also need to store quite a bit inside the bag. The color is nice, the fit is comfortable, and the organization options for storing pens/phone/electronic/sunglasses/keys/ID/etc are great. All this without bulk. I would buy this product again if I need to. I don't expect that time to come any time soon- as the bag is made well and the zippers seem tough. Go for this bag- you'll be happy.

So happy about this purchase I don't even know where to being. With many backpacks I running the issue of it looking too bulky for my body frame, wasn't an issue at all this go around. Just the right amount of pockets for organizing the little things, like , pens, mints, wireless mouse, etc. Having elastic carriers on the side allows me to take my water bottle and coffee mug to school, so long are the days of having to choose between one or the other. The quality of the bag is sturdy, and esthetically pleasing to the eye. This was for sure one of my better backpack investments!

I'm about to sit down and order my second Recon Backpack and I can not be more excited. The old one, although stained and worn, has been my sole companion for years and years and still has not a single tear or rip or missing zipper or ripped pouches, not a single thing! Planes, hikes, snowboarding, cycling, rock climbing, rain, snow, ice, etc this thing has been through everything, I hope quality has remained the same with new Recon line.

I live it. Easy to load and I can keep everything well organized

This backpack is great for school. Being in college and having bigger books and binders, this backpack is exactly what I needed. Holds everything comfortably. Will and would purchase again!

Bought this pack for my daughter who has had several packs - all which were unable to manage her heavy load of books, laptop, gym gear, lunch and band instrument. She loves it; its durable and functional.

This bag was not at all as pictured. It was much darker in color. I didn't give it a chance since the color was so off. I returned and ordered a different style.

Bought this for my 14 year old son for school to accommodate his laptop, books, lunch and athletic gear. He loves it. Just enough padding without being bulky. He loves it!

This backpack makes my back feel lighter even though I have large load of books. Lots of space that I need with convenient pockets everywhere.

Can be difficult to load things into main pocket but overall good amount of storage

I bought this backpack for travel as a carry on. It is nice upgrade with many pockets, zipper compartments and other features. I bought my daughter the Surge in August for school. After seeing how much it would hold and how durable it was, I ordered one for myself. I look forward to taking my new Recon backpack to Europe this summer! We love all Northface products!

Fits my 15" mac book, two full sized textbooks, a planner, a binder and a notebook, my tablet in the second compartment, lots of writing supplies, my wallet, glasses.... everything! Feels comfortable and sturdy to wear, easy to carry a "heavy" book load.

I work on a college campus and I was looking for something that would fit my laptop and a few things to take to and from work. I also travel occasionally and was looking for a new backpack that would again fit my laptop and be a good carry on bag. The main compartment wasn't quite as big as I'd hoped. Once I got my laptop in that sleeve, there wasn't a ton of room left. I am still able to fit a notebook and some folders. I'm sure more would fit, it would just take a little effort to get it all in there. That's usually all I need to carry, though, so it was nothing that would lead me to sending it back.

Love the color, style and the quality!

I have never had a backpack this nice! When it arrived I just shocked by the quality and thought put into every part.Then when I loaded it with computer, binders, kindle etc. and put it one I could barely feel it! Other people have also commented on how pretty and practical it looks. I use this to go to work everyday, and when I go out on casual day trips.

I am a full time student who needs a lot of room in a book bag! This bag is perfect! It is not bulky but fits many books and notebooks! The pockets are designed for awesome organization! This bag is also sooooo comfortable! I never worry about hunching over or having my back hurt when I get to class! Would recommend and buy again!
