these are my everyday winter walking shoes, and when I travel internationally. during Summer months I generally wear TopSiders, but during the cold, wet winter months, i prefer these all-weather waterproof shoes. They last virtually forever, and even when i buy a replacement pair, i keep the old ones around knowing i can get a several more wearings out of them. Usually I wear them one last time, for a disagreeable task, like walking through mud, or not wanting to lug them back from a long trip. Only then do we truly take a separate path.

Funny, I've always been happy with Rockports. But these were not comfortable and did not provide the support I was seeking. I ended up removing the Rockport padding and using inserts.

Purchased this shoe less than a year ago for times that I have to be in office casual attire. Shoe is stylish enough, though less rugged and a little more bland than it appears in the pictures. In other words, it was initially comfortable and serviceable for my needs. Major issue is that after less than year of full time use, the tread on the sole has worn completely away (no ridges left as appear in pictures) and the remaining sole is uneven (most likely due to some flaw in the way I walk). I am currently looking to replace with a shoe where the sole will be able to withstand the obvious, previously unknown, rigors of walking from my car into a carpeted office environment. No more Rockport for me.

Shoes seem to run larger and wider than size indicates. Good waterproof leather--lacks style.

The soles are soft. The heels are already wearing to one side after 3 weeks of wear. Not as sturdy as the Timberlands.

Comfortable lightweight shoe. Great for walking and standing. Very bad when wet, especially in the DC Metro. Have nearly slipped on several occasions. Soles wore out very quickly.

Kind of a rubbery look and feel to them, but they'd work with jeans, which is what I bought them for. The width (4E) felt right, but the size of the shoe itself was nearly a full size too small.

I got these because the other brands that sell the exact same shoe (Nunn Bush, Hush Puppies, etc.; they are all made at the same plant in China) only had fat and extra fat 10 1/2 size. I have normal feet that are B width or "narrow" in this shoe. My feet hurt real bad for weeks after trying these. Never happened before. Eventually either the shoes or my feet changed and they are okay now. I've worn them about 50% of the time for the last 8 months and the soles are already worn flat. My last pair was a different brand and lasted years. So I wouldn't recommend these. Also they look kind of dorky; I didn't have the view options that the site has now.

I recently ordered these shoes in Brown. Overall the shoe fit well on my feet, however, the insole support was terrible. Not the same support I have seen in Rockport\'s in the past. Will be sending these back.

I like these shoes but I am somewhat disappointed in the sizing. The extra wide width was perfect but the length seems at least a 1/2 size larger so my feet slide around. I should have returned them and tried a 1/2 size smaller than my true size.

A mediocre replacement of the Oklahoma - The Oklahomas were absolutely the best shoes I've ever owned! I went through two pairs, which gave me a total of almost seven years of nearly daily use. But alas, I found that that style has been discontinued. The Northfield is intended by Rockport to be the replacement for the Oklahoma. I must say that I'm very disappointed with the Northfield. First, I don't like that the toe is squarer. This makes them look wider, which for someone with wide (EE) feet to begin with, is not a flattering feature. Also, there is not as much vertical room in the toe box. The tongue is not nearly as padded and the shoe interior is not as smooth and comfortable as the Oklahomas. The biggest issue of all, however, is the arch support. It is far less supportive than the arch of the Oklahoma--or any of the other Rockport shoes (except sandals) that I have owned--and for my feet that makes the Northfields nearly unbearable for a full day at work. I almost sent the shoes back for this reason. However, it finally occurred to me to replace the brand new insole inserts with the 3.5 year-old insoles from my worn-out Oklahomas. It worked like a charm, and now I can make it through the day in the Northfields. But what does it say when parts from a worn-out shoe are better than the brand new part? I've been swearing by Rockport shoes for about 20 years. I hope the disappointing Northfields don't represent an overall decline in the quality of their product line.

Not very comfortable- My problem was the shoe's lack of padding around the rim of the opening for your foot. It dug into my ankle badly, causing a lot of pain when I walked. This may be only due to a little pronation, which causes my feet to "fall in" towards the inside a bit. If you don't experience this problem with other shoes (I do), then it probably won't happen with these. Other than that, it seemed to be a decent, very lightweight, shoe.

I don’t like the way they look. They look cheap to me. Also they don’t stay tied very well. But they are roomy in the toe, so pretty comfortable. The heel is wide, too bad for me since my heels are a little narrow lol.

Have worn Rockport shoes for many years now and I have an older model of this shoe and it needs to be replaced, so I purchased another Rockport Northfield waterproof shoe and it is terrible! Tried to wear it for a few hours, but it is so uncomfortable, I had to remove it from my feet. So, am returning it for a full refund.

I ordered the Rockport Northfield Waterproof shoes in the Espesso Nubuck style. When the box arrived it was also labeled as such. When I opened the box, the shoes were not close to the color depicted and pictured. They are a dark lemon yellow with ivory tan soles instead of Espresso Brown with black soles that were pictured online. Not sure if they were packed wrong, or not. Unfortunately, I had to send them back because of the wrong color.

Liked the shoe's fit, but the construction isn't great – the cushioning collar stitched around the curve of the shoe opening has begun to detach after extremely lightweight use (under 50 wearings)

These shoes look good, but they squeak every step. Never have had dress shoes do that. Must be something with the waterproofing. Also within a month of buying them the shoe laces started coming apart. The worst shoes I've bought that I can remember.

I bought these to replace a similar pair purchased more than a decade ago. The old ones were top notch, and I wore them until they fell apart. The new version is vastly inferior. The sole appears to be comparable, and the overall construction of the shoe is relatively sound. The problem is that the materials used for the upper are not at all what I expected. The material is thin, and either very low quality leather or some kind of synthetic. I do not expect them to hold up like my beloved ancient pair, and had I not needed them immediately for work I would have returned them. If you purchase these, modify your expectations accordingly.

Comfortable. Attractive. But the heel wore out way too fast. I wore these from my front door to the car, from the car to inside the building where I sat at my desk all day, and even then only rose to walk on carpet, before back out to the car. And they didn't make it a year before the heels were so worn away that it affected the way I walked. ( For reference I'm 5"11 and only 186# ... so that's not it... ) I didn't realize how bad they were worn out until I put them on again recently, having recently only wearing newer shoes. The outside heels were wasted. I would avoid. Comfortable? Yes... but the sole durability is super low. If you have the cash and don't care, sure enough go for it... but also, please note the reviews were not wrong about buying at least a half size down.
