No breaking in! I just received these shoes and they are great! I only just discovered Birkenstocks recently and really wanted a clog or shoe. I just got these shoes delivered and they are a perfect fit. I read some other reviews that said to go up a size, which I did. They are perfect. I also chose narrow since I am a woman with regular width size 12 feet. These shoes do look big, but my feet are big, so I am used to big looking shoes. These are well worth the money. I am sure they will last for many years. They are so comfortable I don't want to take them off.

Great shoe for someone who stands a lot - I loved the shoes. I just started culinary school and I'm on my feet a lot and my feet or legs don't hurt at all when I wear these shoes. I would recommend them to anyone.

Favorite shoe of all time- These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. This is my second pair. I have a pair in each color as well as many other Birkenstock shoes and sandals. I like the Footprint shoes also.

Very comfortable! My feet are big and these shoes look like boats, but they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn.

Yet another great pair of birks - Though the sizing charts say to order the next euro size up, I took a chance (since they were out of that size) and ordered my regular birkenstock size - a 43 (i'm between a 9 1/2 and 10, wide). To my surprise, the 43s fit perfectly, in both length and width. These are built like a birkenstock - solid, no nonsense, no frills. And they arrived the very next day!

Nice and confortable - Very nice and very comfortable

shorter than expected - I ignored Zappos' advice to order 1 size up at my peril. I consequently used a razor to shave off the toe end. I sacrificed aesthetics for sake of the anatomical footbed which a foot like mine requires. The Alton is recommended.

I found them true to size with all my other Birks. They required no breaking in and I wore them for a 12 hour day the first time out in them. I can wear them with anything except a dress, and they are well worth the investment.

A very comfortable and a great clog! One of my favorite styles of Birkenstock.

Super comfortability - All my shoes are Birkis, however this pair seems to be so comfortable and as tired as I get some days, my back never aches if i have worn my Altons all day!

So comfy - These shoes are great but won't win any fashion awards. I have very bad feet and these are a pleasure to wear. I wish they came in brwon.

Birkenstock Alton - I decided to go one size up for the Alton. I am an 8M (38N in a Birkenstock sandal), and have a relatively high instep. The size 39N fits as I imagine a Birkenstock should fit -- plenty of toe room but not loose fitting. The size 38N would have crowded my toes. A great looking casual clog. Exceptional comfort and quality.

Perfect for extra wide feet - I have wide feet and am always looking for comfortable shoes. The Berk Alton is great. I like the removeable cork liners as they can be replaced when they wear out. The shoe is so well built it looks like it will last for years. And, clogs are fashionable all year round. The only reason that I gave the look 4 stars is that I wish the Alton came in more colors. I would love to own this shoe in a cherry red, green, navy, or burgundy.

Bonkers for Birkies - I normally wear an 8.5 - 9 wide. I tried to get a 40 R and kept receiving a 39 R... Almost perfect, just a teenie bit too short for me. I recieved the 40 R and, rats, they were way too wide. Such a Dilemma, Oy! After a 'taste' if the 39R, I've become obsessed. I work in a hospital and am running constantly...I know these shoes will really make a diference. I own several pair of Birks and am comitted to sticking with what works for me. I've decided to send in an outline of my foot and have a Birkmeister determine my correct size. Yeah I know...I'm obsessed. The upside to this is I sldo like the Derby and Windsor which are the same shoe, so once I unlock the secret of my 'fit', I'll be good to go and Birkenstock will be richer for my experience. Zappos had extrodinary customer service and corporate patience. Service is always the bottom line. If you're an off the rack size, then you'll not go wrong with this shoe. Can you say AH!

Great Shoe - Solid Birkenstock product, great fit, although a little more snug than anticipated. Looks and feels sturdy. Not broke in yet, but I believe it will conform as have all my Birkenstocks. Not a hippie shoe, I will wear in multiple circumstances. Thanks, Birkenstock, you did it again.

Great clogs - I love these, they are very stylish. I think they look really hot with jeans, especially. They are very comfortable, too. They will be a great replacemrent for my Birkenstock sandals when the weather gets too cool for sandals.

I like this shoe! At first I had to get used to this shoe, but now I like it. It's very comfortable. The color is very nice too!!! It's a fashion statement ;-)

I love Birkenstock shoes/sandels!!! I own several pairs in many styles and have found them to be the only shoe that fits my feet due to my high arches. The Alton is comfortable but I needed to order my next size up due to the different sizing on this particular style. It must have a "wearing in" period as I thought at first it was a bit small as my toe did touch the end. The more I wore this shoe, the more it fit my foot. I am in the restaurant business and on my feet all day. This shoe is perfect for me as I am a server, though I do wear my Birki super clogs when I am in the kitchen. I would definitely recommend this shoe but be sure of the sizing as it is different than other Birkenstocks.

2nd Pair! Espresso and Black - I bought these early last fall in Brown (Espresso). On a trip to New York City in earlier this month, I walked from Battery Park to Macy's. My feet felt great! My associate ended up with a blister in Greenwich Village. He was not wearing Berkies. I am glad Zappos has them in black now.

When I had a recent flare up of my plantar fascitis I tried to remember what I did to cure it and I remembered Birkenstock sandals. Since I work as an EMT in an orthopedic clinic (on my feet all day), I had to find a pair of shoes, not sandals. The Alton seemed like the perfect solution. I did have to return my first pair because the sizing was too large. I normally wear ladies 9 (40 in Euro). However, because of Zappos quick return procedure, I was able to order the right size right away and get my poor feet on the road to recovery. I've now been wearing my Altons everyday at work all day and my pain is almost gone. Thanks Zappos and Birkenstock for fixing my feet.

During shipment I realized that I mistakenly ordered narrow, so I ordered a pair in regular and figured I would send the narrow back. I got the narrow and it fit perfectly and I even had room in the toes! I sent the regular back. This shoe felt better than anything I had ever put on my foot. If you have true wide feet, go for the regular, they are really wide. If your feet are regular, but you need more room in the toes, you will still have room with the narrow. I know these are a little on the expensive side, but after you put these on your feet, you will not regret this purchase.

This shoe is perfect to wear to work, and so versatile. They can be worn with dress and casual wear and not be noticed, like many clunky orthopedic type shoes. I have a 2E width, and never considered Birkenstocks because of that, but they are very wide and fit perfectly.
