Really nice shoes - I bought these shoes because I heard they were very durable and would last a long time. I had gone through several pairs of cheap shoes in the last year and wanted something that would last. So far I'm really impressed. These shoes are really well made. They're really nice looking too. The first week was pretty rough. After a few days of agony I started putting shoe trees in them at night to try and stretch them out. That made big difference. Now they're really comfortable. I have no doubt these will last me a long time! Zappos did a good job. I ordered on a Saturday, they shipped on Monday and I had them on Wednesday.

Best work shoe ever! I bought these shoes years ago. It's only flaw is that it last forrrevveeerrrr. Great quality and perfect for service industry. It did take a little time to break it in, but worth it.

Black greasy in my opinion are the best looking Docs - I must say I love the look of this shoe more than other Docs. I'm a waitress and wear these for work and no shoe I've tried has a sole that lasts without eventually cracking EXCEPT Docs. I did feel the back of this shoe on my Achilles heel and decided to wear them for just a few hours at a time, they aren't quite as comfortable as my 8B65 men's shoe (which needed no breaking in), but the look is much more to my liking. So I'll keep giving my feet small doses until they are broken in. I have no doubts of comfort after the break in and I still feel so "hip" in these even though I wore these back in the 90's. The black greasy isn't as shiny looking as the photo, looks more like a nubuck suede but very black, a truly BEAUTIFUL finish!

Good Shoes, but... I know these are good shoes. I had two pairs before and each lasted over five years. BUT, the Chinese made ones are a smaller fit than the English made ones. I wear a US11 and with the English made ones, UK9/US10. But with the Chinese made ones I will need UK10/US11. Also, I think the Smooth Black with no lug soles is better for business casual and dressy attire. I only buy from Zappos, they're the best.

Classic DMs - These were the first pair of Dr. Martens shoes I owned, and along with the 1460 series (boots in the same style), are a classic DM design. I bought my first pair in England (may they rest in peace) and they are still the best product I have found despite the fact they are made in China. So for those of you reading these reviews and trying to make up your mind, I'd say go for it. Yes, they do shred your heels and vise grip your feet for 1-2 weeks, but after you break them in, it's like walking on a cloud for 5 years. Sadly the quality of the new ones isn't equal, but I still recommend DMs because they're better than most alternatives. I think it's important to keep in mind that DM didn't move shop just to wring more money out of customers. They lost 20 million pounds (about 35 million dollars) in one year, so they made the decision to move. I'm happy they're still in business and making these legendary shoes available even though market trends are moving away from the classic styles. I'll buy DMs for as long as they're available and I haven't found a better company than Zappos to buy them from. My thanks to both DM and Zappos for respecting customers. There are so few companies now that I would say that about.

Cute shoes! I had an identical shoe like this one I've ordered from Zappos.com when I used to work at Disneyland...However, this time around I ended up getting blisters even WITH wearing thick socks (on recommendation from my sister.) I would recommend getting heel savers. Otherwise, these shoes are really comfortable once the break-in period ends. They last a REALLY LONG TIME if taken care of. I can't ask for a better shoe!

I love this shoe! I have been wearing this shoe for the last 10 years (maybe a little longer). I am on my second pair. Having heard that the style is to be discontinued, I now have 2 back up pairs in my closet. I figure they should last me till I am 60 at least!

Best shoes available - This is the 13th pair of Docs that I have owned in the last 15 years. I have 6 pairs that I cycle through the week but the black 3 eye are my favorites(Over the years I have worn out the soles on 6 pairs of black 3 eyes completely). That said, this is my first pair that have not been made in England and it seems the quality, while good, is not quite the same. Only time will tell if they last as long as some of the others in my collection. Still highly recommended!

Thrifty Shopper I am and I finally found these cheap! I love bargains, this is my passion! I have wanted this shoe for over 5 years! Finally, I found a deal! For a discounted price of my awesome greasy black 1461 series! Found them here at Zappos for over $30 off retail in the stores! Also, little story, I am 37 (divorced)and at 32 I was married and my ex-husband said I was too old for Doc's. Well I think NOT!! My first pair were MaryJane's in black. I LOVE them!! I got them at a consignment store for $5, I then purchased my second pair at a consignment store, my Brown ones for $35, still a bargain! They looked brand new! I then purchased through Zappos the same Brown shoes for my boyfriend of 4 years for Christmas at a much lower price than stores. He loves them, and wears them everyday! I then purchased a low silver boot on discount from Zappos. I love them and my boyfriend does too! Lastly, this black greasy, no eyelet Doc is my favorite and I was soooo excited to see it on sale, I saved over $40 from retail! Zappos is the greatest. By the way in sizing, I am an 8 and I take a 39 English!

Can't go wrong with these - These are, by far, the best pair of shoes I have ever owned. They are comfortable and they last practically forever. My previous pair lasted 5 1/2 years (and still had life in them). Beware that they take a while to break in, but once they do, you'll relish the comfort.

Comfort, Versatility, Durability - When I bought them in 1997, my wife said they had better last at least five years. I am finally replacing them because parts of the sole have finally worn down. The upper is just fine. I wear these casually and to work, which is business casual. They are my foul weather shoes of choice, especially if it snows.

Excellent shoe; Excellent Service - I absolutely love Doc Marten shoes. The first time that I got on Zappos.com I was impressed and found it easy to navigate and I found these shoes for a great price. I ordered the shoes the 26th of December, and received them the 29th. I was very surprised at how fast they came, especially during the Holiday season. Thanks.

IMO this shoe gives what you expect from Docs, but I do think it runs 1/2-1 size larger.

I usually wear an 8.5. I ordered the US 8 and they were much too long. Beautiful shoe, though!

This is like wearing the Mona Lisa on your feet! They are the funkiest shoes. I love the look & just for that I will keep them. They're a little clunky to walk around in -- heavy & stiff around the shoe opening, but I will wear thicker socks & it will all work out.

I have been wearing Dr. Martens for decades, particularly this model in different finishes. Although they mostly look the same, they are not like they once were. Still made pretty well, but not with the same quality I was used to from UK made shoes.

Comfortable right out of box, no break in needed. I did notice it runs slightly larger than other Docs so get a half size smaller than normal.

I usually take a size 8 dress shoe, 8.5 athletic, so I followed the size chart and ordered a 6, but they were enormous. Even with my full-length orthotics on top of the shoes', they were 1 size too big. I also realized that even in the correct size, they would make my feet look huge, so back they went. That said, they were lighter and more flexible than expected and seem to be well made.

Awesome looking shoes. Get lots of comments about them too. Unfortunately, they are not as comfortable as many Dr. Martens I have bought in the past. They are not uncomfortable, just not that same cozy from day 1 feeling. Nice shoes though! I love them.

Appreciate the black stitching dressing up the shoe. The arch support is lacking and sizing tends to run a half size larger than accustomed. Lack of arch support causes foot fatigue. Overall not bad but recommend Doc beefs up the arches and the shoe would be superb.

I bought these shoes for a trip to Spain. They are great looking both for traveling and/ or casual outings. They are rugged and do take the shock of cobble stoned streets. The problem for me was the lack of significant arch support as mine are high. I would suggest that buyers look into purchasing Smart Feet inserts to give you better support. With the support, the shoes are great.

These shoes are still fairly new, and not quite broken in yet. They're very constructed, but stiff and hard to wear for long periods of time. I'm assuming this will improve in time. I have no regrets in buying them. I needed a pair of sturdy shoes for work, and these fit the bill. I love this color, too. I can wear them with jeans or with slacks.

These were comfortable right out of the box, the "nappa" leather has a good "worn in" feel. Have been wearing Docs for 25 years, the quality is not as good as when they were made in England, but these are still well constructed and worth the price.
