I love this shoes :) I bought shoes of Dr Martens 3 years ago. The first month was terrible. I hated this shoe, but when my feet "learnt" Doc Martens, everything changed. Now I wear it very often because they're very comfortable.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)

First of all, depending on which leather you order will depended on how the shoe fits and where it is made. The smooth leather fits the best but is the stiffest and will take a while to break in.They are made in China and will also last the longest. I have the Nappa leather and tried 2 different sizes one was made in China and one was made in Vietnam. The Carpathain leather is made in Vietnam but was by far more narrow then the Smooth or Nappa. It also didn't have a removeable insole. I have worn Doc Martens for years. For my line of work they are perfect. Classic looks with a great oil resistant sole. Once you break them in the are very comfortable. The quality is much better now then when the first stopped being made in England. You can still buy made in England Doc's there just about 80 bucks more and the leather is just like the smooth. Fit and finish is better from England, but it's more bread and the only place I have seen them is direct from Doc Martens web site. Customer service is by far better buying from Zappos. I never buy shoes anywhere else. Cheers.

These are great shoes and have very good build quality. I've had plenty of English made Dr. Martens shoes in the past but I can't tell the difference between those and these new ones I have now from Zappos. The shoes took about a week to break in, and they were a little squeaky while breaking them in, but they fit very well and are very comfortable. I also get plenty of compliments on them because they look super cool!

I really like these shoes and I know once they are broken in a bit more I will love them. They unfortunately seem a little wide to me. I have a wider foot too, so take that for what it's worth.

These are definitely solid shoes for the price. The black leather is tough enough for work but looks good enough to wear out on the town. The fit seems to run just about normal. I wear these mainly at work and they have proven themselves over the past several weeks.

I have always wanted some "Doc" Martens and I finally did because Zappos had them on sale. I am very happy with them. The soles of my feet are very sensitive and these shoes get me up off the floor. And they're kind of funky. I even got a compliment from a guy on the train who wanted to know where I got them. I didn't tell him. I didn't want him to know where I got my bargain. Probably selfish of me, but I felt special and it felt good. They're stiff at first, but not as stiff as I was led to believe. But after a couple weeks worth of wear, I'm feeling fine. I love the shoes.

I bought Dr. Martens for work involving waiter service to customers. I move around frequently at brisk pace from kitchen to dinning room. The tile floor in the kitchen is at times very slippery. What surprised me is that this shoe does not slip on any type of surface; it even offers traction on greasy surfaces. It seems to be built to last. I have been wearing them for about 1 month; the only visible signs of wear are wrinkle marks caused from bending down. I am satisfied overall, since I was looking to buy something durable, and slip resistant. There are two minor details I dislike about the shoe: 1. the shoelaces are way too short; they tend to untie very easily from moving around so much. 2. When I started first wearing them, the heel was causing pain since it was rubbing against the skin, but after some wear it stopped doing that.

Nnice shoe - My only regret is that the toe seems to curl up a bit. I need one of those things you put in the toe when not wearing to maintain shape. Top notch service delivered in two days. 2nd pair of Doc's I've ordered from Zappos.

Nice shoes - Great lookin' shoe, real comfortable, too. Recomend you go order a 1/2 size larger than normal and buy the inserts. -You'll never buy another shoe. Docs are the best!!!

Way too big I have had this problem with Doc Martens before. When they size the length of the shoe, they size rest of the shoe proportionally. The human foot just does not work this way. I wear a US size 13. In this size the shoe is simply too big around. I have to tighten the laces all the way and even then it is LOOSE.

I bought a pair of 1461's about 3 years ago, and I admit the first couple of weeks were pretty rough, they cut the back of my feet, I was ready to give up on them, people said give them a chance to loosen up and I did, they have been my favorite pair of shoes ever since them, they have been with me through everything, from my last day of highschool, through all the parties, concerts. I even took them with me on my trip to england, I brought my sneaks and my 1461's, I initially slid on my addidas sneaks for, sight seeing but after a while my feet hurt, that night I put on my docs and my feet felt fine again. I am in my sophmore year of college with the same pair of docs and I still wear them all the time. They kind of stink for have had many sockless evenings. But until they are falling off my feat from wear and tear they are not going anywhere.

Unbelievably durable. My 1461s have been on my feet for most of the past 2.75 years. -Traveled with me through Eastern Europe, Canada, Iceland, the Left Coast ... and never a painful arch or sore toe. My constant companion through multiple body-piercings, drinking spectaculars, and rock concerts, my 1461 are unbelievably durable and obviously well-made. Buy a pair. You won't need any more shoes. Trust me.

Inner sole broke down in front. The sole inside the shoe under the toes broke down rather deep into some apparent void, leaving a sharp and very uncomfortable edge, about 5 mm away from the wall. They could not be used after that happened. I had used the shoes for about 2 years. They were far from worn down in any other respect at that time. Before this happened the shoes were great, though.

I love the (OUCH) way they look. I love these shoes. A classic. But the backs of my heels are raw. I can't believe I saw another review that said the same thing. I haven't tried to soften the back edge where it cuts into my foot for fear of ruining them. Anybody have ideas?....that have worked?

Like others have noted, these run really big. The 1461W wasn't in stock in my size so I ordered the men's, since when I bought Docs years ago they were unisex. I'm a women's 8, sometimes a 7.5, and have historically sized down to a UK 5 (women's 7) in these shoes, which was just big enough if I wore thin socks. The UK 5's I received today are beautiful, comfortable, but really freakin' big. I've never worn a UK 4 in my life; I can't imagine having to size down to that, but I think I might give it a shot.

Soles are squeaky and the leather I find not supple enough. Seems like to really have to spend the time to break them in.

US size 12 shoes too small for my size US 11 1/2 feet. I've had 3 pairs of these shoes in size 12 over the last 10 years and never had problems with the fit. I ususally have a little room in these, but this new pair (made in China, no longer in the U.K.) were way too snug. They were a little too short and much too narrow to be comfortable even when unlaced. I also ordered another style of Docs in the same size and they felt at least a size too big. I guess I'll be buying at brick & mortar shoe stores in the future. To Zappos credit, they did upgrade me to overnight shipping for free! The ordering process was painless and the service was spectacular, but the shoes are going back.

I didn't actually get the opportunity to enjoy this shoe. Although I ordered the same size of shoe that I already own in a brown version, the black version was too big for me and had to be returned. Due to the fact that this style is not sold in half sizes, I was unable to exchange it, but rather got a refund.

Ouch! My friend bought these shoes and said I just had to get a pair. Well I did, and Wow do they hurt the back of my heel! If I knew how to soften them up they would probably be my favorite shoes. But alas, I have scars from the one time I wore them and walked around campus! Ouch!

They look great but... owie =( These shoes look great, but the back cuts into the back of my foot when I walk cuz it's so stiff. If I knew of a way to soften it up, they would probably be my favorite shoes.

These shoes fit me better than any others I've tried; however, the quality of them has appeared to gone quite downhill since I first bought Doc Martens about 15 years ago. The shoe laces lasted a couple weeks and the soles started falling off after a few months.

Going to the Beach? Buy some sandals. The shoe doesn't stay on! There is no Ankle support. I tried to fix it with insoles but didn't help. It's like wearing sandals!

These dr martens did not seem legit- I received them in an unbranded box, and although I own other dr martens of the “same size” these are physically bigger. Thankfully Zappos return policy is wonderful, so these are going back…
