This is my husbands second pair of these. I bought him his first pair 5 years ago and they finally wore out from 5 years of almost daily wear. He called me and said, "I need some new shoes, please get the exact same shoe." They are comfortable and have lasting quality that is so lacking in cheap shoes made now. It is hard to believe they were the same price as the PF Flyers my teenager wanted, and these are 100x better quality shoes.

Great shoes. I've worn Dr. Martens for years, but they seem harder to find at stores lately, particularly a more formal pair like this. The last pair of shoes I got were another brand and I wasn't happy so I wanted to go back, but couldn't find what I wanted in stores. Luckily I found them here. Very high quality. The back rubbed against the back of my ankle for the first few days which was annoying, but it went away after the first few days of wearing them in. Very comfortable after that.

Super comfortable and easy to break in. These shoes last a long time. I wore my last pair for 8 years. These will last at least another 8 years.

i dont have these but i tried them on and i know what everyone means about the back. i bought the 8053s and they're great because they have a padded collar, so they dont cut into your foot like the 1461s. other than the padded collar, they look the same as the 1461, so the 8053s may be better for you if the backs of the 1461s are bothering you.

My husband loves these shoes although they dig into heel. He puts a bandaid on to help. He is hoping that eventually the back will soften up. He really likes the look - beauty over practicality!

Very comfortable shoes and good cushioning, just were too big and clunky. I might try the boot for a snugger for come fall. FYI, I didn't think it had any arch support.

I really wanted these shoes, but they were too big. I have bought other Docs so I am a little surprised they were this big on me. I sent them back but I am going to try again because I love Docs.

This is the first pair of Docs I've purchased that were made outside of England. These shoes never made it out of my living room. Bought my first pair in '82 for $80. How can they cost this much more almost 30 years later? Labor is cheaper where they're now produced and because the leather covering these things is the same synthetic smelling leather covering my $12 steering wheel cover from Autozone. These would be great: as a disposable fashion piece...nothing wrong with that (by disposable I mean maybe 2-3 years of daily use)...or you just have to have "Doc Martens." But Dr. Marten is just a name at this point. If you want real Dr. Martens with the quality that helped build the name, you need to hunt down the company that helped make the original Dr. Martens in the first place...still hand made...still using original molds...still paying their workers a living wage...(NPS) Solovair, which is what I did. Cost more (as they should), and will last 10-15 years like all my originals.

Unfortunately, Dr. Marten has changed the design of their insole and it is no longer removable. If you use orthotics, avoid this brand. It’s a shame because I’ve enjoyed this brand over the years. I guess it’s time to move on.

I've worn Doc Martens since 1990. I have had many pairs of shoes and boots. These are my 3rd pair of 1461, but first made in China. They are awful! None of the comfort or quality from the real ones made in England. Dr. Marten are just regular shoes now, or even I'd say, cheap. You buy this quality shoes for under $40 from many other makers.

I have suffered through attempting to break in many different styles of Dr. Martens in the past, and I think I finally nailed it with these. I ordered one size down to accommodate the usual size disparity of Dr. Martens. I am usually a US women’s 7/7.5 and I ordered a 6. While these are less rigid than the classic smooth leather (which I have in the Jadon style and took me about 6 months to really break in) they aren’t exactly perfect right out of the box. The edges around the ankle are still tough and are going to take a little time to be able to wear without thick socks. The width is great, no tight toe box or rubbing on my baby toe. I’ve been wearing them around for the past few days for pretty long periods without any big problems (except for the laces coming undone, a usual struggle with new docs) Overall I highly recommend these.

I absolutely love these shoes! My foot doctor told me I needed to buy more substantial shoes to wear at work as I'm on my feet all day. I decided to try these out as an alternative to the classically tough smooth leather. I tried on the smooth leather version in store and just from the minute I had them on could tell they'd be quite a pain (literally) to break in. The nappa leather is much softer and more forgiving- I've been wearing them for about a week with no major issues. I've been wearing them with a thicker pair of socks until I'm certain they won't tear up and back of my heel. My feet are a bit sore but it's getting better every day. I ordered a uk 5/us 7 which is my typical size in Doc Martens. They also have a good amount of room in the toe box which is something my foot doctor recommended for me. My job can be quite messy and these are very easy to wipe clean. The only real issue I had was when I originally ordered a pair they squeaked quite loudly. It seemed to be coming from the actually shoe and not the sole. I couldn't find any real suggestions on how to fix this online and knew I couldn't live with the squeaking. I decided to return that pair and get another one which I'm happy to say don't squeak. Zappos has easy returns and fast shipping so it really wasn't too big of an issue and I'm glad they worked out for me.

I have very short, wide feet. I had this exact model of Doc Martens from Dec 1995; they finally starting falling apart in the heal recently (Jan 2019); the soles and stitching were in excellent shape; obviously, the color was worn, but they were by far the best fitting shoes I have ever had on account of the odd shape of my feet (most shoes simply do not fit correctly). The 2019 model is almost an exact replica of the 1995 one. The perfect fit allows for hours of comfortable standing on the feet and/or walking.

Dr. Martens are the most comfortable shoe that you will ever find. Once you try them, you will be hooked. This is a classic style that is good for any occasion. The only bad thing is that they fit a little bit loose on me, but I do have a narrow foot so this is to be expected. These are well worth the price.

The difference between these and the Made in England version: If you are wondering the difference between these and the MIE ones here it is...if you buy these in smooth not Napa then the leather is pretty much the same. I do not notice a difference in the leather. Other than that the Asian made ones are a little longer and have more room in the toe. I typically wear a US size 8 for men and found that the MIE (made in England) UK 6 (which I own) was tight in the toe, and I was swimming in a MIE UK 7. These Asian made UK 6's fit me perfectly (men's). Also the stitches seem a little more orange, but I just can't remember if that's the way my MIE looked when new. The last difference is that the Asian made one's have a cushier insole with a little more support. I actually like the fit of the Asian ones a lot better than the original UK made ones that these will be replacing. If you tried the made in England UK size 6, but felt you needed a 6.5 then the Asian made UK 6's should work for you.

These shoes are still a standard of comfort and common sense style. Size was perfect the first time. If this is your first pair, there is a day or two of wear-in time. It might feel like your feet are having to conform to the shoe, but it's actually the shoe that's flexing. Service was perfect as always from Zappos.

These are old school schools. You have to wear them yo break them in to fit your feet. Once you have done this, you will have a long lasting pair of shoes that fit like a glove. To break them in, wear them in brief spurts and, if needed, wear blister patches on your heels. Again, well worth the effort. The other Doc Marten's (5 eyelets) break in easier, but wear out in less than a year. I do not mind the extra effort for the significant benefits.

I've owned these before and yes, they're always painful at the start. My feet probably bled in a couple places for up to a month or two. There are probably less painful ways to soften them up, but nothing more reliable than simply wearing until they conform to your feet. Once that happens, you'll never want another shoe.

Since I'm a long time Dr. Martens user, it's very natural to stick to the original, though I don't know why. It's not easy to find these shoes in my department stores, so came here.

I ordered these shoes for an actor in a touring situation. He is using them on multiple different surfaces, some of them very hard. He is in them up to 10 hours per day. They fit well (true to size) and are comfortable. I also changed the color of them and it has held very well. All in all, very good shoes for style, fit, and performance.

I bought these to replace a ten year old pair of 1461s. I did purchase an insole with a little more arch support and now I wear them most days to work. In fact I have to remind myself to change when I get home and not work in the garden with them. When I bought that first pair the sale man gave me a size 8(US) this worked if I wore thin socks. Eventually the footbed slid forward and crowded my toes. I like a little room in my shoe, so this time I chose the 9(US) and I feel fine in thick or thin socks. They do require a little wearing in. They look great, feel great. I highly recommend them.

Excellent shoes. I've been wearing Docs for about 20 years now. These shoes are not exactly the same as the old English made shoes, but comfortable nonetheless. The shoes seem to be of the same quality. As for other reviewers, it is impossible for anyone to compare a shoe that they have been wearing for 10 years to a new shoe and say that the new shoes are not the same or not comfortable. Every pair of Docs that I have owned needed to be broken in, especially in the heel area. They always hurt when they are new. Enjoy your new shoes and don't get hung up on where things are made, it is irrelevant. Take a look at half the products you own already and you will realize nothing is made where it used to be anymore.

I have always had a pair of these in my closet. Rugged, classic, and they last forever. Extremely comfortable and they go with anything from jeans to khakis to some dress pants. Okay, not too many dress pants. Zappos made it incredibly easy to buy my next pair. They were very accommodating and helped me make sure I got the correct size (they come in British sizes). Will definitely buy my next pair of shoes from Zappos. Thanks!

I selected the Cherry Red Docs and am thoroughly delighted with the deliciously deep color. I have wide feet and bad ankles, so it's hard to find anything that satisfies my needs for stability and fashion. Dr. Martens is good for body and soul. By the way, the shoe is shipped with both black and gold laces. And a snazzy modern art postcard. What's not to love?
