I didn't care for the stiffness of the leather on the Black Smooth so I tried the Nappa and I couldn't be more pleased.The nappa leather is ultra soft and flexible making the breaking in period a breeze. If you want the ultimate in comfort, I suggest spending the extra few dollars and going with the Nappa leather, you won't regret it. These boots are so stylish and trendy right now, but do Dr. Martens ever really go out of style? These boots are great with skinny jeans, shorts and dresses. I can't imagine any boots looking this sharp while being so comfortable. If you're unsure which "Black" to try, I highly recommend the Black Nappa for both style and function. You won't find a better looking quality leather and the comfort is unsurpassed. These boots run a little big, but with the Dr.Marten insole I can wear my regular size comfortably. I have a high instep and the smaller size was too tight across the top but the regular size with a soft sock and insole fits and feels perfect!

Great boot! Classic Dr. Martens, reliable, takes a day or two to really work them in but once they are, they are the most comfortable boot you can wear. Came with black and yellow laces (I use the yellow). I bought the shoe balm and I recommend it with the boots to help keep them clean and looking like new.

This boot takes me back to the 90's! It is perfect for the fall season with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings. I wear a US woman's 9.5 so I had to size down to a 9 and it fits perfect!

These boots are very comfortable. They seem well built, but the leather is very thin and not of good quality. I think the overall quality was better when they were made in the U.K.

These boots are great, just like the ones I had 15 years ago back in my skin head days; same great DM quality.

Just got these boots two days ago in black smooth and I'm pretty happy with 'em. I read a couple other reviews saying they're not as tough as the originals, but never trying those I'd say these are pretty sturdy. They fit well, only thing that's been bothering me is the seam where the tongue of the shoe connects, it likes to stand up when you put your foot in, but it's learning it's place. Aside from that these look good, feel good, and they're breaking in fast.

I always wanted a pair of Dr. Martens so when I hit 40 & ended up getting divorced, I decided to get myself a pair of butt-kicking boots to get through the divorce and the trauma of being 40. I ordered a size up because I thought they might run small. I was wrong, ordered the smaller pair and Zappos upgraded my shipping and didn’t charge me for it. The return on the other pair was no problem at all. After all the crap I have been through, it was nice to have something run smoothly. I love the boots. I don’t think I quite have them broken in yet, but I am working on it. They are lightweight and really give you that "take no crap" attitude. Love the boots and love Zappos.

These are very stiff at first, but comfortable after they break in a bit. Very durable, and get more comfortable the more they are worn.

I have four pairs of Dr. Martens now which I purchased last year. I would recommend the "pewter" for anyone considering it, although it's not leather it has still held up through our rainy and stormy weather and I get tons of compliments on the shoe every time I wear it. My only complaint would be that all of the cute colors the boots don't come in the oxford style so I couldn't wear them to work as we are not permitted to wear this style of boot for work. The shoes do not run big, and I did not have any break-in period, they are comfortable for me right out of the box. I wear them all day and on the weekends, they are my most comfortable shoes. I wear a US 8 and order the UK 6, it's perfect! I would just like more of the oxford options.

As usual, Zappos was great! I got these boots as a present for my brother and he has been wearing them everyday ever since they arrived. He's very happy because they're very comfortable. We weren't sure about the size so we measured his foot. It worked. They're perfect!

Love Dr. Martens. Order these for my sons as they are hard to locate in our area. The love the feel and the fits of these boots. This boot will feel true to size if you heed the sizing instructions. Also, love Zappos for their quick service and easy return policy. Thank you Zappos.

Classic boot. Looks great no matter how many times you wear the Martin...the more the better. I bought them for riding the motorcycle but they fit the part in any casual setting. They're a little large around the ankle 'cause I have small ankles! This boot needs to be broken in a bit, can be a little rough on the heel initially.

Now made in China like everything else. The finish is not as good as my old UK boots. The black gets scuffed real easy. The leather is a little more soft and comfy when new. Must be those skinny Chinese cows. They cost the same as they used to when made in the UK, so I get the feeling I'm being ripped off. Sometimes globalization gets me down....

I like these. No, they aren't everything that the originals are, but they DO break in nicely (esp. where the tongue meets the shoe, there's a seam that bothered me first day, but that went away). I have them waterproofed with sno-seal. Perfect now for walking around downtown Rochester in wintertime. Only thing is, I can't decide if they're out of style, but I can't really care when they work so well and all the Docs I've had have held up pretty well.

Canadian customer, very fast delivery, quality product that fits TRUE TO SIZE, lengthy but simple return process. All in all a good online experience. Obviously, you like how these boots look. In my opinion, they are very comfortable as well. Please note that they fit TRUE TO SIZE. Do not buy them one size small if you've heard they fit large. I would recommend buying your regular size. I made the mistake of buying a size too small. The return process was very simple and easy, but after one month my return had still not been processed. I emailed Zappos, and my return was promptly processed the very next day. Recommendation: Great boots. Zappos is a safe and easy shopping experience, even for Canadian customers.

The pros: The shoes are a great fit, very true to size and width. The finish on the leather is water-repellent, if not waterproof. The soles are very comfortable, even on long walks. The cons: The innersole that comes with the shoes is completely useless, I immediately replaced it with a more supportive one. The construction of this shoe is less "finished" than I would expect for a boot that costs this much. The junction between the tongue and the toe has a rough, intrusive seam that is bothersome for the first few wears (and I have tough feet - I hike at least 500 miles per year). The outside seams at the toe/upper junction are already coming apart on my shoes, and I’ve worn them for a total of five days. The leather on the upper is stiff and has sharp seams, particularly near the laces. These seams cut my shins on the first wear. They’ve broken in since.

Great boots, really comfortable, and great for any weather. I went with the Black Nappa and they ended up being really soft, nice leather and felt broken in the minute I got them. I wear a size 10.5 and initially ordered an 11, but sent them back for a 10 which felt great. Definitely a great pair of boots, will last me awhile and look great.

This is the first pair of Docs I've bought in about 10 years. It's good to have them back on my feet! I know that some reviewers have said that there is a lengthy break-in period, but for me these boots felt great right out of the box! Over the course of a week they molded to my foot and now they are just incredible. I wear them every day to work (I own a restaurant) and I'm on my feet 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week. They are a blessing to my feet, and I know they'll last me many years. They were a great buy!

I ordered these for my husband at his request. He normally wears a 9.5 US. The UK 9 was definitely too big for him but the UK 8 seems a bit tight. His toes are right at the edge of the boot. He also says the boots are a bit painful to wear for more than about an hour. I have encouraged him to break them in since they're fairly soft leather but I don't really think he's going to. (I think he might if he paid for them himself!) He's generally tender-footed; so I think a person more willing to deal with a break-in period would be happy with these boots. As always Zappos service is excellent.

Very disappointed with this purchase. I ordered my standard size 12US/UK11, 1460 black smooth finish. I also have a different style of 3 hole docs the same size 12. Once I received the boots, first thing I did was to put in inserts. I ordered inserts as well, after reading reviews here. Then I tried to put them on, and I couldn't even get my foot in with them completely unlaced!! So I proceeded to pull out the insert, and double check that I'm not stacking it on top of a factory one. Nope, just as I received them, no insert (which is what I expected). I next tried putting them on without any insert, and the fit is VERY tight along the top of my foot were the laces start. This of course also means that it is squeezing the sides of my foot as well, along with coming a little to narrow in the toes. I have average size width for my shoe size, and never had a problem before. Sadly, they feel just about right in the length, and a little loose in the heel. That said, I feel that going another size up might give me some room in width (I'd hope), but then to long in length. I don't understand anyone who says they run big, as it's just the opposite (how heck does anyone use inserts?). All in all, I'm probably going to return them. Sad, because they are a good looking boot and I was looking forward to getting them. Still thinking it's weird at how tight they fit...but what can you do. Zappos was great, and even received my order early, so no issue there. I'll order from this site again, just never another pair of docs. These are getting returned in a few days when I have a chance.

I'm not sure if there's anyone left who doesn't know Dr Martens are incredibly comfy (bouncy soles) and sturdy. I bought these for my daughter in nyc. She loves them,look great, and hold up under tons of walking all over the city! As always zappos was wonderful! We exchanged these shoes for color and not only did I get free overnight shipping back and forth, my credit card was only billed once! No double billing while we waited for the exchange to go through! Talk about above and beyond! Thanks Zappos!

These aren’t shiny, nor are they the roughed up leather. They are that perfect blend of between. You will need insoles for arch support.

AAAH the world famous 1460!! These are by far my favorite pair of boots I have. I have trouble putting into words the joy that washes over me after work when I lace these babies up, the quality is impeccable, the fit is second to none, and the cool factor is through the roof. I usually wear a 9.5 in most US boots, so I went up to the 10 US and they have enough room to put a nice work style comfort insole in and not be too snug. I also wear the seven eye Icon to work and even after wearing them all day, I still look forward to wearing these boots as my after work footwear.

I ordered this in navy blue on Thursday morning, and received it the next morning! That was extremely pleasing to me, and shipping was for free! That was a great selling point for me to buy from Zappos. However aside from Zappos, the boot itself was a little less comfortable than I had imagined. If you’re not going to wear long socks, or tuck your pants into the shoe, the tongue (when brand new) may start wearing at the skin on your shins. Other than that, the color is great, and I was also happy to see it came w/ optional yellow laces in the box, because it adds some extra flavor!
