As a Costume Shop Manager for a large regional musical theater, I buy Stacy Adams a lot. However lately I am disappointed in the quality of the shoe! These boots in particular are not sturdy anymore and it's as if there's a veneer over a cheaper piece of leather. When the boot flexes, it tends to crack and peel now. They're still the most period-looking boot you can find, but they just aren't made like they used to be.

You will get compliments when you wear these. I'm pretty rough on shoes but these break in nicely. The only downfall is that the soles go out a bit faster than I would have liked. You will likely need to resole them in the first couple of months.

I bought these shoes last winter and thought it might be helpful for a followup review. These were to be my everyday winter work boots. A year later, even with weekly polishing, the leather around the toes cracked. Also, I have completely worn through the soles. Granted I walk a lot but I was expecting much better wear from these. I am not saying these are bad boots, but do not buy them thinking that they are going to be long lasting.

Pretty. But yikes! I am afraid to wear them. I don't think leather can get any thinner and still be called leather legally by law. I am afraid of a wardrobe malfunction blowout with these shoes. The stock laces are also too short for the boots eyelets. You get what you pay for, I do suppose. Good looking shoe, though. I can't help thinking it should be renamed 'The Depression Era Madison Boot.' I will let you know when they blow out. Tall guys and ex-linebackers beware of this shoe.

Love the look, but this shoe has never fit correctly. I thought perhaps they would get more comfortable with wear, which they have a bit. The problem is that the shoe is VERY narrow. I have never had a problem with regular width shoes, but if I ever purchase this shoe again, I will go to a store and try on wider sizes.

The Sizing Is Not Standard -
For over forty years I have worn a size 10D in virtually every shoe. Based on reviews I read here, indicating that the shoe runs narrow, I purchased a size 10E. The shoes were very tight, particularly the right shoe. I took them to a local shoemaker to see if stretching would help. He has a complete set of Navy lasts. According to the lasts and his measurements, the left shoe was an 11C and the right shoe was slightly wider than an 11B. He also remarked that on the right shoe, the lacing system of the "blutcher" did not join properly. He said the exterior of the shoe was of quality leather, but the interior was lined with vinyl. I love the look of these shoes and was very disappointed in the current fit and lack of uniform sizing. My thought is that a 9.5EE would have been a good fit.

Good looking shoe, but...and a big but, the top eyelet tore out right away on the pair I received. I returned the item and was sent another pair. Days later, another eyelet tore out...my shoemaker was not able to repair it as the frail leather was quite torn. I have worn them no ore than eight times and there are 3 eyelets missing on the right and two missing on the left. Junk! Will steer clear from this brand!

Wasn't impressed by the quality of these boots -- one of the lugs popped out the first time I tried to lace it. Also, I bought these EE but they seemed to be quite a bit narrower. Wouldn't recommend these if you wear orthotics. I do like the style, though.

Uncomfortable shoes -
I was unhappy with these shoes when I received them. The shoe was narrower than conventional sizing, and the leather upper was thin and appeared cheap for the price and the insole was not comfortable.

Funny looking shoes -
These shoes look like they're made of some kind of plastic, though they are clearly labeled as leather. They make crunching noises when I walk in them. My pair is going back.

Problems with perfection -
This was the shoe I have always wanted. It looks sharp and makes a striking impression. The problem is the quality of the shoe. I purchased mine in October of 2002, wore and cared for them as I would any other dress shoe, and found that the soles gave out after only two months (the laces broke the day after I got them in the mail). I replaced the soles and heels for $40.00 and now the leather has worn out, and this is only August of 2003. The shoes are like a sponge in the rain -- despite polish and proofing -- and became water damaged almost immediately. Style YES. Durability NO.

Awful. I wore them for 8 hours the day after they arrived and the soles were shredded and the outsides wrinkled and cracked. Keep in mind I work in an office. Returning immediately.

Wanted to love this shoe. Classic look, classic style. Fit was good. Don't believe the these shoes run a size big stuff you see here. They fit just like you would want. The problem here is the sound. These squeak like you've never heard!

Like the boots, but three of the metal lace helpers came off after one wearing and the shoe shop said replace all of them or they would come off soon so I did.

5 stars!! The Stacy Adams Madison line of shoes are my favorite mid height shoes. They are perfect to wear as shoes or boots depending on what you are wearing. I highly recommend them.

I am in my 70s and I have been wearing Stacy Adams Madison cap toe Boots and Oxfords since I was in junior high school. I fell in love with them when I was a ten-year-old shoeshine boy while polishing the ones that were worn by my grown customers. My first pair was purchased with money that I saved up from polishing boots and shoes. These shoes and boots are classics, like the Roll Royce, they never GO-OUT-OF-STYLE. I like the most recent pair that I purchased as much as I liked the first pair that I purchased several decades ago.
