I think something was wrong with the boots I received. The seams on the inside of the boot shaft have a smooth piece of finished leather that covers the seam, but the cover leather looked to have something on it (glue maybe?) or was in some other way degraded below the ankle. It was extremely rough and uncomfortable. On one side of one boot it was smooth and that part felt very comfortable, so I think that was how it was supposed to be.

I just got these Frye Boots in the mail! I'm so happy with them, and everything looks as it does in the picture.

Zappos is so awesome. I ordered these boots in black. I decided I wanted a more distressed color, so they let me exchange them for the charcoal color. I received a pair that had some scuffs on them, and they promptly sent me a new pair. Their customer service is amazing. About the boots- the leather is softer than my Frye Campus boots that I bought 15 years ago. Those were hard leather and still hurt my feet if I wear them too long because the toe box is narrow. I think Fryes tend to run on the small and narrow side. The harness boots have a lot more give to the leather, and so I believe they will be more comfortable. I also tend to order a 1/2 size up in boots now so that I can wear thicker socks. I have to wear very thin socks with my size 8 campus boots, but the size 8 1/2 harness boots allow me to have more room for thicker socks. There is a tiny bit of arch support. I have high arches so I really need an insert, but you can’t take out the existing one to add your own. I will tough it, though, out because I love them. The charcoal old town color is beautiful. The boots look more like a distressed black. I can’t wait for cooler weather to wear them!

These are beautiful boots. I happen to have very narrow/small calfs, & the height & width of these gorgeous babies were just too wide for me. Sadly, they are going back... :(((

I bought my Harness boots in 2009. They get better with every passing year. If you want boots that last Frye is the one to go with.

These were killer boots at a killer price and it just killed me to send them back. Though I have a high instep, I wear Frye's Campus and Cavalry styles without a problem. In the same size, I could not get these Harness boots onto my feet without the old plastic bag, fall-back remedy. Once on, these felt fine: right amount of heel slip, and all. But without the plastic bags, there was no way my high-instepped foot was going to get around the corner of the shaft into the boot. Darned if I'll wear plastic bags on my feet in summer, so these didn't work. Such a deal - too bad it didn't work out!
I'd also recommend:
Taos. And I still love Frye.

I've had mine for about 2 months and absolutely Love them! They are by far the most comfortable boots I have found in a long while. And for having big skinny feet 11B it's hard finding great fitting and good looking at the same time!

I've owned this pair of boots for six years. They've seen concerts, weddings, and campfires. With a little leather polish they always look brand new. Highly recommend!

These boots are amazing. I bought my pair at least 10 years ago and they’re still going strong. They compliment pretty much all the styles of clothing that I wear. They’re a rock and roll/biker/country/cowgirl boot hybrid. I bought these on sale for $100. Best money ever spent on boots. Classic. Never goes out of style. Make the investment.

I can't figure out sizing on these. The 9 is sloppy big on my feet, yet I can't get the 8.5 on (I gave up after like 10 minutes of trying). I tried several different pairs and different colors. Sadly, I guess these just aren't the boots for me. I wear a 9 in the Frye Carson style.

Absolutely love Frye boots! This is my second pair of 12R harness boots, and these honestly fit better than my first. I now have them in Tan and in Smoke, which because the fit is better in the smoke, I’ll most likely hand off the first pair to someone else. The color of both are a perfect neutral, but the smoke has a little more detail to it.

I LOVE these boots. I ordered the tan color in my regular size. The color is beautiful—a muted, soft tan that will go with just about anything. The leather is a little stiff, but is already breaking in nicely after only two wears. These boots fit a lot like my favorite cowboy boots—a little loose in the heel. I feel like I could’ve sized down a half size, but I like the loose heel and ability to wear thick socks on cold days. I’ve already walked several miles in my boots with no rubbing, blisters, or sore feet. Overall, very impressed with the quality and fit!

I heeded the other reviews that said yo order down half a size; I ordered an 8.5 rather than my customary 9, and they are *perfect*! I got the oiled cognac finish and they felt soft right out of the box. These feel so well made and substantial - I can tell these are going to last for years and years!

This has won worst pair of shoes I have ever bought, and I wear a size 12 and have suffered through terrible shoes. They were not the fit I expected from Frye. It felt a size too big yet, narrow around my toes, wide at the bunion area, wide at the plantar, narrow at my ankles and really wide at my calf. I wanted so much to love them, and was so excited waiting on the delivery, now they are going back the next day.

I bought a pair of these boots from another retailer about 15 years ago, and am still wearing them. It is absolutely true that they get better with age. I am going to buy a second pair now and hope they are the same quality. If that's true, I'll be wearing them at least until I am 65! In fact, I will probably be buried wearing Frye boots.

I have a somewhat wide foot. Typically 9 in sneakers, 9.5 in heels and 9-10 in boots. I originally ordered a 9.5. Had more heel slippage than I thought necessary. Ordered the 9.0 (fab customer service with Zappos!) and decided the 9.0’s were best. I also noticed the same boot cane in very different boxes. I’m thinking the pair I kept, 9.0, had been tried on enough to have warranted some stretching. Also, I’m thinking if you have wide calves, this ain’t your boot. Beautiful boots and glad I splurged.

Very heavy boot, seemed designed for serious work. Not really a boot I’d wear in the city or around town. I’d wear it in the barn for sure.

Nice boot. I did not like the color as much as I thought I would.
