Great boots, definitely needs some breaking in though... Finally bought them, very satisfied. Looks great from the top, not too wide. They make my feet look smaller than they are. Didn't have a problem slipping in my feet but the shaft is a bit on the tough side. It rubs my legs, right where the seams are on the back and where the flap is on the outside. Nothing a long pair of knee highs didn't solve. I'm sure it'll get softer with age and wear.

So cool - This boots looked exactly as I expected them to...very cool, chunky and kick-a#*. The top of the boot however does hurt my shins...hoping that will improve as I break them in because I want to wear them with tights as well as socks. The boot itself is surprisingly comfortable. I love the look and feel and highly recommend it.

Very cute boots - I love these boots; have worn them several times now. They look even better on than they do in the photos. I had to put moleskin inside one of the boots because it rubbed against the top part of my foot, but once I did that they were comfortable. And, yes, you do need to wear knee-high socks because the tops rub against your legs. I also thought the toe was rather narrow--it didn't squeeze my feet, but I have narrow feet.

Great Looking Boot - This boot is terrific looking - love it, love it. I'm 5'5" and am between a 7 and 7.5. I ordered a 7.5, which is fine. Unlike other reviewers, I did not experience any difficulty getting the boot on. The size fits perfectly. Problems: the 12R is a bit too high for a pants boot and too low for all but the longest skirts. (If I had longer legs, I wouldn't mind the break between the top of the boot and the bottom of the skirt so much.) Also, the front of the boot hits a sensitive part of my shin. My guess is that the leather would soften with use. I've decided to return them and exchange them for the 15R instead - same size and color - although even more expensive. As usual, Zappos service and ease of ordering and return makes it easy for this type of decision. Can't believe that I once lived without you guys! Awesome. The higher boot turned out to be too heavy and too warm for Tucson. As a result, I kept this one and like it very much.

Difficult to get on - I love this boot. However it is difficult to pull on which is frustrating. Once on, they are so comfortable I can wear them all day (I do so I don't have to take them on and off).

Always reliable and good quality - I bought these to replace another pair that finally wore out after almost 20 years. As always, Frye boot quality is reliable... my new boots were every bit as rugged as the old ones, and the sizing felt just right. There will be a break-in period as they can be a bit tough to get on over the ankle bend at first but as they work in and the leather softens, I shouldn't have that problem anymore. Love my Frye Boots!

My Frye’s - These boots are extremely well-crafted, finished by hand and the leather is about an eighth of an inch thick. The left boot slides on easily but I have to tug to get the right one on. It will probably be another week or so until they fit my feet better. This is my second pair of Frye boots (had a pair of Campus boots from 1978 - 1985?) and this year I couldn't find any other.

A very well made, attractive boot. Unfortunately, I had to send them back - like an earlier reviewer said, it is very difficult to pull these on - they made the top of my foot bleed after several tries. There is a limit to what I will do to break in a boot - even one as attractive as these. Also, kind of clunky on a petite calf. That said, Zappos was amazing as usual. Thanks Zappos!

This boot is a strange mix. 1) Due to handcrafting there is a wide variability in sizing; it may say 8.5 on the label, but you may have to try on a few pairs to get the right size. 2) If you have a high instep, beware. See #1 above: you may have to try on a few of the same size to find a pair that allows for room around the instep. 3) They are quite comfortable once you do find the right pair. 3) You would think for such a sturdy leather product that they could've spent more on a more durable sole. I'm 145lbs and light on my feet, but after about a week or so of some moderate city walking, the sole was very worn.

Nice boot and the color is a little dull not polished but I'm a fan of Frye boots have several pairs by the company.

Love - I am just in love with these boots. I'm not sure what else to say about them. I hemmed and hawed for a while due to price, but in the end, you get what you pay for. They are annoying to put on, but that's getting easier with use. I guess I'm breaking them in properly!

I've had these boots for nearly a month and I can't recommend them. I love Fryes and I'd been looking forward to a nice, solid black boot that would go well with jeans. These look nice but the comfort and the build are both deal-breakers. When I first got them, I immediately noticed that the workmanship on the inside lip at the top of the boots had some glue or stitching that rubbed against my calves. I should have returned them right then and there, but I figured I'd break these in. Unfortunately, I quickly learned that no-trouser sock or thicker knee-high sock stood a chance against this rough stitching and glue - I was left with a ring of welts on the back of each calf. Too late to return these, I doubled down: I'm going to break these boots in if it kills me. I sucked it up and have worn these pretty consistently since getting them. Unfortunately, during this time, I've noticed that the footbed is too flat - there's no support. Worse, the leather itself wasn't breaking well and the boots look like Santa Claus' boots, and not nice, broken-in black boots. I'll keep them since I've worn them so much but I'm investing in new footbeds and hoping that over time the leather will eventually break attractively. In the meantime, unless you're dressing up as Santa Claus, these aren't for you.

So disappointed! I have wanted Frye boots for 10 years, and I finally splurged. The workmanship was substandard (the soles had jags and gouges at the top, where it meets the boot and the material felt cheap). I couldn't even get my foot in AT all. I ordered up a half size, and they were still too small. Returning.

I LOVE the look of these boots. However, the first pair I ordered were 7 M and the right foot was perfect but the left was crazy tight and hard to get my foot into. The awesome customer service person allowed me to return them and I then got a size 7.5 M thinking this would solve the problem (though I was worried the right might be then too big). BUT, this new larger size is way too small for BOTH feet (even though they are a half size larger) and I can't hardly get my foot into the right boot and cannot get my foot at all into the left boot. I am going to try one more time to exchange them (if customer service allows this). But if they are still off I am sadly going to have to give up. I have different style of Frye boots that are great. I don't understand the strange inconsistency of size with this particular style of Frye boots. :(

Last ya forever

This is the second set of engineer boots I've purchased. I bought my first pair in 2007 and wore them daily for more than 1/2 the year for about 12 years. Finally, after resoling them twice, they lost their ability to repel water in 2018 and I had to say goodbye to them. My new boots provide me with every indication they will last just as long.

These are GREAT boots, very edgy and fun. I wear them with jeans or a casual dress, in all seasons. The leather is quite stiff, which is the only down side if you like your leather buttery soft, but that doesn't bother me at all. I bought a half-size up so I have enough room for my orthodics and socks. Lots of room in the toe. Very happy with my purchase.

These shoes are great. I wear a 7 to 7.5 and the 7.5 fit perfectly. They are a bit tricky to take on and off but once they break in, they will be the boot of choice for any adventure!

I love these boots! They were true to size for me. I could tell that these were the type of boots that would last years. One of the boots was uncomfortably snug on my instep. They probably would’ve formed to my foot over time, but I had to return. Also I realized black wouldn’t work for me. I ordered same size in another color and LOVE them!

I bought my first pair some years ago and love them! The heal is a bit worn down now as I wear them daily, I am going to get the heal replaced and am about to order another pair in black as I love the brown so much! The fit is right on although one should know that the heal is meant to slip a bit when walking so don't be surprised or think its too big when this happens. If it seems a bit stiff or tight at first just wait it out as they will break in and be the best boots ever! I have heard that wearing a wet pair of socks in the boots around the house will help in that prosses but I have never tried this??

I originally ordered my true size 7.5 also what I have in the Melissa buttons 1/2size to small and squeezed my already skinny narrow foot. Zappos of coarse was awesome as usual and I exchanged them for an 8 they are perfect ???? I was worried theee boots would be to rugged looking but they are not they are gorgeous I am going to wear these beautiful boots every where and with everything people are going to get sick of me wearing them lol

these are great boots but i have to return them because they are just super heavy, like major cowboy boots. i was looking for something with a more supple leather, dressier i guess. It might be just what the FRYE boots are, don't get me wrong, these are heavy duty great boots, just not what i thought i was ordering.

I love the look and color of this boot - gaucho, which is a chocolate brown. It was exactly what I was looking for. As for size, I am always a size 7M in shoes and boots, but I had to return the size 7 as I struggled to get it on - this never happens to me. I loosened the buckle and finally had success, but it was too tight. I went up 1/2 a size and it fit perfectly. I still had to loosen the buckle, but they are comfortable. This is a beautiful boot and I look forward to breaking them in....
