These boots are incredible. They do require breaking in, with initial difficulty sliding my feet into them. Once I got my feet in, they felt like they were home. High quality materials. It is not often that I think of my size 12 footwear as cute, but these are! The width is good for my slightly wide feet. There is sufficient wiggle room in the toe box, which is the way that it is supposed to be. I am looking forward to years of enjoying these. Why did I wait so long?

First, let me say Zappos has hands-down the best customer service around. So glad I shopped for these with Zappos. On to the boots: I'm a size 8, slightly wide feet, and already have another pair of Frye boots (my Frye Harness 12Rs fit beautifully as soon as I got them). The Engineers are gorgeous and I love them, but I learned that there is a huge range of variability in size and fit and had to try on a few pairs to find one that fit. I first tried my normal size, since it worked for my Harness. One boot fit, the other didn't so I went up a half size. I had to try on a few pairs because some would slip on easily, others would barely go over my foot. I ended up calling Frye and they said of all their boots, the Engineer will only stretch a small amount, less than a quarter of an inch, so they recommended trying on another pair. So glad I did -- finally found a pair that fit, that didn't take an army to pull on, and didn't kill the tops of my feet. It's a pair of beautiful boots all around.

These boots might be the best $258 I've ever spent. I bought them for a trip to Colorado to be able to ride horses. Upon receipt, they were a little snug/narrow. It required some significant stretching with a stretcher and multiple pairs of socks to get them to loosen up. I finally broke them in by getting them wet and letting them dry while I was wearing thick socks. The area I live in has seen more snow this year than normal - way more. Uggs keep my feet warm, but they're not water resistant. I love my rain and snow boots, but they're not always work appropriate. I threw these on one day for lack of any other options and I was shocked. I stopped slipping and sliding in the snow, and despite walking through sigificant snow for extended periods of time - walking the dog through 1 1/2' deep snow for 30 minutes, my feet have stayed dry. I never expected these to be my go-to bad weather boots, but they are now. Highly, highly recommended. And, once broken in, they're pretty comfortable!

This boot fit beautifully. It was a bit hard to get into at first, in a wool sock: I have a wide foot with a high instep, usually wear a 6, and ordered my usual size. The leather is firm, but of high quality and supple, and each time I put them on it got much easier. This boot will become "yours" like an old fashioned pair of jeans and will last forever. I was surprised it fit so well as often shoes are too "small" for me even in my proper size, because of the high instep and wide forefoot. I did decide to return them, however, for a funny reason others should consider. I am not tall (5'1") and, though I'm a size zero, my calves are, proportionally, huge (as in sometimes I can't buy skinny jeans because I can't get them over my calves). The shaft of the boot came up about 2-3 inches too high, and sat beneath the wide part of my calf, so that it was unflattering. I don't think this would be an issue for tall girls, or those with slim legs. So, beautiful fit, beautiful boot, lifetime quality, but a little higher than an ankle boot.

Gorgeous boots. They look great once you break them in (the leather doesn't look so stiff). They were a bit tight on my feet (I wear a 9.5 and have really wide feet). I had trouble putting the shoes on and taking them off as well. I had them stretched in the instep and they pull on much easier. The black color rubs off on light colored socks, so wear dark ones!

I got these boots about 5 years ago from Zappos...I am still in love with them, and although I have since developed a bit of a boot addiction, most specifically Frye, these (got them in Gaucho leather) are still my faves. They are not a "pretty" boot in the oiled leather, but really rock a short skirt and tights, as well as all kinds of jeans. They have a "tough" look to them which keeps a lot of outfits edgy and not too "girlie." I get lots of compliments on them. They are a bit of a rough ride at first, but with time and some thick socks to start, we have become best friends. Love 'em! And love Zappos...especially your shipping. Fabulous service. If I am buying shoes...actually, if I am buying anything you sell, I always check Zappos first.

These are fabulous boots! I got them in the gaucho, and although they are more distressed than the pictures online, I like it. The fit is true to size. I have wide feet, one foot is larger than the other, and I have a high instep. I am also in between a 7 1/2 and 8. I got the 8 and I'm glad I did, as the width is medium and they are a bit snug through the widest part of my foot. There is about 3/4 inch left in length in the toebox for reference. They are slightly difficult to get on the bigger foot, but not painfully so. They are already getting more comfortable after trying them on twice indoors. The only bummer is I also bought the Frye conditioning cream thinking I could weatherproof them, then found out from Frye that you can't use it on the gaucho color without completely ruining them. That isn't incentive for me to exchange for the black, but apparently they only recommend using the cream on black leather. Thank you Zappos for awesome customer service, got 2 damaged pairs and had to exchange twice. The third time was a charm and so happy Zappos was quick to ship them out. Great service as always!

Love this boot! Ended up buying both brown and black. I am a true 7 1/2 - both boots fit. The one was a little tighter on the instep the first times I put them on, but they do break in nicely. Also a little stiff to start with, but gets better with wearing. Good support as well (more than the Veronica boot). High quality boots that will last for a long time to come.

The perfect "motorcycle" boot. The leather is top quality - they're Frye after all! A real classic that I will wear forever.

I love them. Not only are they sweet looking, but I can hike about in them no problem (though a tiny bit of breaking in is expected)! Shipping was super fast and so far I am completely happy with the entire transaction.

I love the Frye's and have three pairs of the Veronica's but this one was just too stiff. I spent a week walking around the bedroom with them and found that they rubbed my shin and and just above my ankle. Still, a great boot, just didn't work for me.

When they came, I couldn't fit my foot in one of the boots (tried everything, cause I really wanted these!). I called CS and they shipped me a replacement pair, which I'm happily wearing right now, and I got them the next day. they fit true but do require some breaking in, as the leather is very heavy and stiff, but good quality. CS was excellent, I love my boots. they fit perfect, not sure what happened with the first pair. it's all good, happy girl.

This boot requires a bit of patience and then you will be rewarded! It is an extremely comfortable and fun boot to wear all day. But be aware that it is tight around the ankle and you need to use some force to get it on initially. It fits true to size aside from the tight ankle. I tried an 8, kindly sent to me by Zappos, and the ankle was just as tight as the 7.5's and much too big on my foot. From my experience a break in period of several weeks was needed to soften them up. Well worth the trouble and time. Highly recommended!

I absolutely love these boots. They were true to size, and are so comfortable! I didn't have any issues wearing them all day, the very first time. Super cute, and you can wear them with anything. Seriously, I placed my order and received them the very next day. Crazy!

I love everything about these boots. They go with everything. They look great with jeans, but I like to shake it up and wear them with a girly dress to give it an edge. They are comfortable right out of the box. As with most boots made with stiffer leather, there will be a small break-in period, but for the most part I could wear them all day, immediately, with no problem. I love them! As far as sizing, I buy all my boots a size larger because I wear them with wool socks, which gives them a perfect fit for me.

This is my first Frye boot and I am very happy. A good looking boot; very comfortable. I found it to be true to size for me. I also had no difficulty getting them on, though that may be because they have the wool shaft. Great purchase and excellent service from Zappos!

I love these boots (and have them in the black with the gray felt wool and the burnt red). First of all, I love the style. It is flattering to any leg type, in part because of the curved top, the heel height, and the adjustable strap around the top of the boot. The comfort is also perfect as the rounder toe provides extra room. I was immediately able to wear these from the box with no break-in period required. Finally, the black pair with the gray wool shaft is currently one of my favorite boots! The surprising element of the wool elevates the "tougher" engineer style to something a little more elegant, a little more original. I'm wearing these with skirts and tights this winter and find that they turn a "boots, tights, and skirt" look into something a little more interesting and even dressier with the gray touch. I often catch folks giving my boots a second look as they try to figure them out!

Had to order several sizes until I found the right fit. I ordered to my size in womans. Tried to order the kids size, since I have a small foot, but too big? These are wicked sturdy boots! My feet hurt for the first 3 weeks as the leather is stiff but now are becoming more comfortable. My one problem is the inside tag that hits my calf. It scrapes my leg unless I wear high socks. Other than that I love them!

Love these boots! I'm usually an 8.5, these were a tiny bit snug, but I think that's because they are the type of boots you have to break in. So versatile, amazing quality, love how thick the sole is (where I am we get really difficult winters and its nice to have a shoe that doesn't freeze your foot upon contact with the ground). Love this purchase, and amazing service by Zappos.

I bought these boots for my daughter. She wanted a pair of Frye Engineer boots but the all leather ones were out of stock. These boots were even better. With the wool felt shafts they are a little more stylish. The were much easier for her to pull on then other Frye boots. She loves them!

These boots are fabulous! Couldn't be happier with my purchase and Zappos overnight shipping is just icing on the cake. I ordered the black leather with the wool shaft and swear they are the best boots. The fit is typical Frye, i.e., room for your heel to slide as they should.

I received these boots in black for Christmas and loved the look right out of the box, though the leather looked sort of rubbery. I'm usually a size 8 and I ordered an 8 and I struggled to put them on and take them off (the taking off being much harder) for the first two weeks or so. After a while the arches of my feet were so bruised that I could barely stand to put them on. Though now that they're broken in they are very comfortable and feel true to size lengthwise, but the portion of the boot that is around the arch is much tighter and the toe space very loose it isn't bothersome if you wear thick socks. Overall I really enjoy these boots and have received many compliments, so if you're willing to put up with the discomfort of the break in period these and wonderful and durable boots that I hope will last for a long time.

These boots are delicious. The leather is soft but ruggedly tough too, the heel is not too high. They were comfy the first time I put them on. Only negative is that the top of the shank rubs the back of my leg a bit, but long socks take care of that until it breaks in a bit. Love these.

This boot runs large and wide. The wool shaft helps make it easier to pull on than the leather. I hope it holds up well; it looks very chic. It seems pull-on boots are meant to fit like clogs with backs do. They ride up and down on the heel but are secure at the instep and are very comfortable.

This is my second pair of Frye boots (the Veronica Slouch being my first) and I absolutely love them! I had originally ordered a size 10, but found that I had way too much room in the toes and heels. I exchanged them for a 9 and, though they were narrower through the instep, I loved wearing them from the first time I put them on! In fact, the first time I wore them I spent the day in NYC and the were the perfect for a long day of walking around the city. A great shoe for fashion and function!
