These shoes are a great especially for a wide foot fit. But they are the squeakiest noisiest pair of shoes I have ever owned. The squeaking occurs every time you take a step but it doesn't start right away. It starts after about a year of regular everyday wear; shoes at that point are far from worn out, look ok and remain comfortable. But the noise makes them almost unusable.

These are the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have ever worn, and I have been wearing this brand of shoes for seven years now. The first couple of pairs were great, and so when they came back on the market, I snatched up another four pairs. I regret this immensely, as the quality of the Air Monarchs dropped considerably when they went from Air Monarch IIIs to Air Monarch IVs. They are still comfortable, but within a month, each pair would produce a loud, terrible squeaking noise with each step. I took meticulous care with one pair not to ever step in puddles or wear them while it was raining, so it is not that they have gotten wet, it is just what the shoes do, without fail. I am a very large man (6'4", 300 pounds), so that might have something to do with the squeaking - I am not sure, and I doubt it - but it is unbearable. People can hear me coming from over a hundred feet away, and remark on it quite often. Do not buy these shoes if you like walking quietly.

Love the shoes! EXCEPT for the squeakin! I have apProx 4 pair & I have had to rotate one shoe to another because of squeakin... PLEASE, PLEASE Nike fix this problem! These shoes fit like a glove..

Very comfortable shoes. I'm on my 3rd pair of these but will not be buying them again. Every pair I've had develops an annoying squeak long before the rest of the shoe wears out. I love them right up to the point they start squeaking. Seems to be a design flaw as it has happened eventually in all 3 pairs. Time to find another shoe for my next purchase.

I have been a Monarch wearer for several years because I liked the style and the comfort is great, but something has happened to Nike's quality control and now the shoe has a bad squeak in the soles like they used some cheaper glue and it doesn't hold. I first thought it was just a bad pair from my local retailer, but now I have bought another two pairs from different sites online and the same thing has happened within a couple of weeks on each pair. I won't risk another $60 on a pair of these again.

Same as another reviewer - these were great for awhile now they "squeak" when I walk. I have never had a pair of athletic shoes squeak.

Not comfortable...feels like concrete after a while. Causes weird pressure points on the sides of my feet. Runs tight. Makes a strange squeaky sound when you walk. The experience buying from Zappos was good, but the shoes themselves are terrible. Would never buy these again.

As per many prior comments the shoes "squeak" and have worn similar for years, maybe Nike could spend an additional 5 cents per shoe on glue? Returned.

The shoe felt a little narrow when I first started wearing it. I expected that would go away after a break-in period, but it never did. After just a few months the insoles started squeaking with every step I took. Now it's become so loud that I worry I'm distracting co-workers when I walk past their offices.

This is a good looking shoe but it took two weeks to break them in so they didn't hurt my toes. Worse than that they squeak and squeak with every step. It is annoying and almost embarrassing. I won't be buying these again.

If these shoes weren't so damn comfortable I would have switched brands years ago. I walk 30-40 miles/week and inevitably, they squeak after a month or two. I return them as defective, Zappos sends me another pair and the cycle continues. I figure if Nike doesn't mind replacing defective shoes, I'll stick with them because, seriously, there's no other shoe I could put on right out of the box and walk 7 miles.

The noise is terrible. They are very comfortable,but now have fallen apartand they are not that old. Would not buy again.

It's true what others said about one or both shoes being defected. My left shoe makes a awful sneaking and crunching sound when I walk in it or press on the bottom of the shoe. A defected air sole would be my guess. I have no clue why only the black ones would have this problem and not the other colors. I love the style and the fact it is made for wide feet but not happy at all about the defected shoe.

I've experienced two issues with my pair of Nike Air Monarch IV: the shoes are very noisy (squeak with every step) and a gap opens near my instep while walking. Sizing may explain the latter issue, but I have not noticed such a significant gap with other brands. The shoes are comfortable, but the noise and gapping are irritating.

Great looking shoe and comfortable. HOWEVER...it started squeaking after about three months. The squeak in both shoes is SO ANNOYING that I am tossing them. Pretty disappointing. Without the deal breaking squeak, I'd have given these shoes at least four stars.

I've worn Nike Air Monarchs for many years. Just ordered a white pair and they squeaked within 1 week. Zappos graciously replaced them with a black pair and the 2nd pair squeaked after a week of very moderate wear. I love these shoes, but will not be ordering them again. Nike apparently can't build quality shoes any more.

I like them a lot however I had to return them as they developed a very annoying SQUEAK on any hard surface. I surmise the inner rubber design became loose and was rubbing the main sole. As I was able to mimic the squeaking with the shoe in hand for both of them. I was thinking of getting a replacement pair until I just realized it happened to both. So I will just try some other Nike.

Pretty nice shoes and fairly comfortable. They have an odd internal squeak. It's not the sole on the floor, it's the insole and constant.

I've bought these shoes a number of times and in recent pairs, one shoe developed a "squeak" when walking. It usually takes many months but with this most recent pair, it happened within a month. It's so annoying I'm inclined to dump the shoes.

Love Zappos, both the web site and the service. Thanks for the great inventory selection. I do not recommend this shoe. They have changed the design or assembly to the point that after half a day of wearing the shoes have an annoying squeak. Thanks You Tube for the "fix" I found on line that eliminated, for now the noise. Come on Nike really! This is clearly not the quality product these shoes use to be.

I was wary of getting a pair of these based on another review that indicated the shoes squeak. I figured -- it's Zappos. If they squeak when I wear them, I'll call them up and return the pair. Well, they do squeak, but only after about a month of using them. Maybe the glue binding the air bladders to the shoe have failed, but they are loud and make me sound like I'm walking on a wet sponge with every step. Now I have to find new shoes.

My size 12 toes hit the front of these size 12 shoes big time. I tried lacing them up tight to force my heel to the back of the shoe with moderate success. All of my other size 12 4E shoes have lots of room in length and width. I feel maybe I should soak them in oil or something due to their constant squeaking. I would maybe try a larger size but don't want to put up with the squeak, squeak, squeak while walking. The shoes seem over-insulated, as they keep my feet quite hot. Maybe this would be a good shoe if you order oversize and spend a lot of time walking in the snow.

I would love these shoes, but they would not be any noisier if I taped rubber ducks to my feet. I thought it would get better the longer I had these shoes, but if anything, after a year it's only gotten worse. It's too bad, because otherwise, they fit as close to perfect as any shoes I've owned. Support is great, and I can be on my feet all days in these and my feet and knees don't hurt. They breathe great, look nice, and are easy to get on and off. But that noise is awful. I have bought Monarchs for the past seven or eight years - with 4E width feet, my selection is pretty limited - and this generation is the first I've had this problem with. I wouldn't buy them again.
