This would be the perfect shoe if not for the squeaking and crunching noises it makes. There is no sneaking up on anybody when you wear this shoe.

I originally bought these for my son since it comes in solid black which conforms to his school dress code. These are good, well built shoes. My husband liked them and I bought him a pair too. The problem came when they went to an amusement park and they got wet on a water ride. Since that day both pairs squeak something awful. The two of them walking down a street is like something from a Laurel and Hardy film. I can't take the squeaking anymore and will be looking for other solid black sneakers, but I think I have to avoid Nike all together.

Very comfortable shoes but they seemed to wear out quick. They lost their cushion more quickly than other shoes I have purchased.

I have worm the Monarch series for 12+ years.Good fit and value but the last three pairs (I wear out 2 pairs a year doing serious walking) have all developed loud squeaks. The shoe is super comfortable and durable and would be OK for casual wear. The squeak seems to develop under heavy use and is so loud it is annoying to people around me. If the new pair starts to squeak I will be looking for another shoe.

Got the Nike's very quickly and they are really comfy and supportive. However, after about 3 weeks of wear, they are starting to squeak. I had another pair of the air monarchs with the same problem but I thought Nike had resolved the problem. Not so - these squeak so I try to wear in places where the squeak won't be noticeable. These would be perfect if they were quiet.

These shoes are the best fitting and comfortable shoes I have owned. The only downside is they squeak after awhile and it is really annoying sometimes.

The most comfortable shoe...I am a valet and run a parking lot and stairs all day. I have bought 4 pairs and blow though them in 6 months. Big negative -- and why I buy every 6 months, They start to squeak and squeak a lot to the point it's embarrassing to walk around guests when it's quiet. But I buy again and again for the comfort. 2 other co-workers have bought these and experienced the squeaks as well.

This is my husband's second pair, and while they are very comfortable after a week they squeak so bad that you can hardly stand it. His first pair squeaked too, we thought it was just a fluke. Guess not.

I bought these due to the wider width availability, I like the shoes but the squeaking is very annoying, and I have contacted Nike about this. Hopefully they will stand behind their product!

I have worn this model shoe for 10 years and have gone through many pairs. The last pair I bought were made in Vietnam and were comfortable from beginning to end. The one's I just purchased were made in China. The shoes were noticeably stiffer and needed to be broken-in. This is the first time it happened. Once broken in, they squeak when I walk. This does not seem to be the same quality shoe I have purchased in the past.

This is a great fitting walking shoe! Its size is true to fit. The only problem is the Chinese rubber starts to squeak after 60 days wear.

Liked these sneakers a lot...until they started to squeak. It's like the air pocket has deflated and two layers of rubber inside it are rubbing together, making for an off-putting squeak. So beware to squeak!

I purchased these shoes because I don't like having to own a bunch of different shoes, and the solid black goes with everything. I needed unadorned black comfortable shoes, and these were it. The price is quite good for shoes of this comfort. Clearly I am sold on the comfort and appearance, but my one huge gripe is that shortly after taking them home and starting to wear them, they started squeaking! The squeak is quite loud and you don't even need to move your foot much to make it happen. I'm embarrassed to be walking around at work with the noise. A Google search indicates that this is a pretty universal problem with these shoes. Someone in another forum suggested removing the insole (which isn't glued) and saturating the sole with baby powder (pouring out the excess) and returning the insole to the shoe, which he says cured his problem. I'll be trying that when I get home tonight.

Good for the price. Solid support and comfortable for walking. But they're pretty big and clunky. If you're used to wearing a lighter and more streamlined shoe, you have to practice picking your feet up or you may trip over impediments in your path that ordinarily you wouldn't have noticed. Your friends may wonder if you've developed a taste for hip-hop.

After a couple years of dealing with plantar fascia, switching to these from the New Balance I'd been wearing has completely taken care of it. I really do enjoy them for the comfort. But having said that. Oh my Lord, the squeaking. Every step I take makes this loud, squishy, plasticky rubber sound. People hear it and comment about it all the time and it's just too much. I really like them, but I'm going to have to find something else next time.

They squeak so much it's embarrassing! Great shoe otherwise, but not worth the noise.

Bought these shoes to replace my Monarch III's that I've had about 4 years which comfort wise I loved but they get a squeaking noise that is maddening so I saw the IV and decided to try hoping Nike corrected this problem but day 2 the squeaking commences. I still do like the style and comfort though.

Definitely old man shoes. Very comfortable. Very light for how big of a shoe they are. Easy to keep clean. These shoes are not very good on ice. I have never had problems on ice with any other Nike shoes, but these are terrible.

My son used this same shoe for years, and the last pair we bought were too narrow in the toe box and causes so much pain he can't wear them. Not sure what changed, but something did, for the worse. We are returning them.

I had ordered a size 12 and returned them for the exact same sneaker. I ordered a size 12.5 and they fit exactly like the size 12! I purchase these for a friend.

Poorly made, already squeaking from internal layers. Ordered exact same item and size before, and these are now slightly smaller.

Didn't work for my foot shape. YMMV.
