I have lost count of how many pairs of Air Monarchs I have bought over the years. I'm guessing around 10. They are very comfortable for walking, hiking on smooth trails or short runs. My Birkenstock cork insoles fit nicely inside and make the shoes even more comfortable. As far as style, I don't mind the look, but my kids refer to them as "Dad shoes". The soles wear out fairly quickly when walking on concrete, but that is the price you pay for nice cushioning and great comfort. Occasionally, some shoes develop a terribly loud squeaking noise. When that happens, I gently remove the insole and pour a generous amount of baby powder inside, then replace the insole. After wearing for about 20 minutes, the noise disappears. I will continue to buy this model of shoe as long as it remains available. The price is also great compared to more modern looking shoes.

Toe box was WAY too narrow for my wide feet, but this is the case with every shoe I have ever worn besides Crocs. Also way too much padding on the heel, making ergonomic gait basically impossible.

Very comfortable right out of the box. I use these to play tennis in and they actually fit better than New Balance.

I've owned at least ten pairs of this exact shoe over the years. It's the shoe I work in. It's squeaky, but really comfortable. That said, I returned this pair and will never buy another pair of Nike shoes again. If they choose to applaud someone like Colin Kaepernick, then I choose to spend my money on another company's products. Zappos handled the return perfectly and I'll be buying something else from Zappos to replace these.

My second pair; although my wife thinks they are ugly, I am completely happy!

After several weeks, the shoes started squeaking. Not the bottom of the soles on a slick surface. Inside the shoe on _any_ surface. And loudly, too. Horrible design if they do that (I now see it in other reviews.)After 6 weeks, they still didn't feel broken in an we're starting to cause excess pain in some spots that I expected to smooth over after that long and using cushy socks. Not so. But, they were extraordinarily cheap, so what did I expect?

I have bought several pairs of Nike Air Monarchs because they are the only shoe that my feet feel comfortable in after wearing them at work all day. I've tried some other shoes and they all let me down, but not the Monarchs. Also, I need a wide shoe and these are perfect. Thanks Nike and thanks Zappos for your great customer service!!

These are SQUEAKY shoes. This is the second pair I've had and they both developed squeaks within a few months. After 9 months most any support it may have had (modest) was gone. Yes, very true to size in every way. But lets also agree this is a very FRUMPY STYLE. If you are in love with this style you are over 55.

It seems like these shoes get a little worse every year - Nike is cheaping out on materials. I keep buying then because it is the best STANDING shoe out there - a category no one realizes we need! I wear custom orthotics, and they will fit in the wides. Brushing a little baby powder on the soles and wiping it off will cure the noise until they get wet again. Nike COULD make these the greatest most comfortable shoe like the originals were ( very much the walking on a cloud feeling ) with the lunarlon or pebax they put in other models. But they won't, and it's a little disappointing.

These are really great looking shoes. Unfortunately, they are WAY too small. I purchased a 9.5, (Med width) and I not only have about 40 pairs of shoes, boots and other footwear this size, but I've been wearing the same size for over 30 years. I expected them to be a little narrow until they break in, as I usually wear about a D....bu these are both excessively narrow and feel like at least 3/4 a size too short. Might I also mention, this is also the 3rd pair of Nike Air Monarch 4 (same size) I have purchased as my primary walking/running shoe. The first pair I wore out (holes in the bottom) after at least 700 miles....so not only do I think they are good shoes, in general, but also warranted buying additional pairs. I'm really sorry these didn't work out....again, they look really great and seem to be of usual great construction. I don't know....poor QC at Nike is all I can figure.

Drab enough for my generic retail dress code, comfortable while I spend 8 hours walking across tile and concrete, had them about 8-10 months now, if I had to guess (I do), and they are just now starting to develop the squeak y'all are talking about, still in good shape though.

Excellent shoe and an excellent price. This is my third pair. I do a lot of walking for exercise and this is the best walking shoe I've ever owned. I use the black pair for work. Same support as my others (white and white/blue) but the black is of course more acceptable for work.

I have had a problem with this red & black color Monarch squeaking bad in the past so I switched to the green & silver ones with no problem, so I thought I would try these again, so far they have been Great!!

Perfect shoe for school.

I have always been a huge Nike fan. But this is the second pair of Nike's that I've purchased lately and I couldn't be more disappointed! It appears to me that Nike has switched factories and they are now using a lower quality leather than in the past. Shoes are super narrow and do not feel comfortable at all! I hate to say but I think this will be the last pair of Nike shoes that I'll ever buy. Thank goodness for Zappos return policy!

We originally purchased this style in black and white, ordered 11.5 which is my husband's usual size in a basic tennis shoe. Both felt small so we returned (thank you Zappos, always a breeze) and purchased the black in a size 12. The fit is perfect. ?

I am a senior and for more than a decade I have been wearing this model of Nike shoes daily for both casual and work. Over the years I have tried numerous other brands and models, but have found no other that comes close to the comfort and fit of the Air Monarchs for my wide flat feet. From my experience I get about 2 years of wearing them for casual and then, when they are not looking their best any more, convert them to wearing for doing handyman and yard work. I still have a pair that I use for lawn mowing, gardening, painting etc. that I first started wearing about 9 years ago. The Air Monarchs would be the "perfect 10" if they were all leather and did not have the annoying squeaking that most of the ones I have bought seem to have. But I can live with the squeak for the comfort and fit these provide me like no others.

These are the most comfortable sneakers ever. Nike Air Monarch is the only sneaker I've found with the arch support in the right place for me and the extra wide width I need. I've been wearing them for years, and keep replacing them as they wear out, they put up with a lot of abuse. The noise can be comical, especially walking down a hotel hallway at 2AM when trying to sneak out for a smoke. But I was awake anyway! A little baby powder and the noise goes away. Nothing to whine about!

Today was the first time I wore them for an extended period. They were reasonably comfortable. I believe they will be acceptable for daily wear.

This was to be my second pair of Nike Air Monarch IV. I came across the first pair several years ago and, after learning how to get rid of the infamous squeak (baby powder under the insole), they were the most comfortable shoes I ever had. I wore them whenever I could. They were my automatic choice for trips. Being black leather, I could almost get away with them when 'dressing up'. I finally wore the soles down and I was eager to get a brand new pair. I'm sorry (really sorry) to report that these are not the Nike Air Monarchs I previously had. They seemed a little 'stiffer' when I put them through the indoor on-the-carpet test period but I could not wait to get out there with my new favorite shoes. In print, on the box and inside the shoe, these are the exact same size (12 4E) as the old ones but that's where the similarity ends. They never 'relaxed' to a comfortable shape and remain smaller and tighter than their predecessors. They gave me corns. They restrict my feet until, by day's end, I can't stand having them on. The original pair are so far back in my order history that I'm not going to try to compare SKU numbers, but these are either a different batch that are cut differently or they are a smaller size that is mislabeled. Like I said, I've tried them outside too much now so I guess I'm stuck with them.
