- Initial Review I feel as if the shoe is a little long for the size, and a little narrow. I'm more likely to size up because of my wide-feet, but this time I sized down from my normal size to ensure the length was proper for SPD-cleat installation. Because I sized down, the straps near my ankle do not overlap at all - it's very close together, but I haven't felt any pinching, and it actually feels more comfortable than my toe-strap, actually. As for the feel, overall pretty good. Least favorite part is the straps.. The previously mentioned toe-strap is a little annoying, the material near the stitching feels a little scratchy.. I believe it may be one of those things where your body just needs to get used to it for a bit [will try to update if no improvement/worsens]. I wore them inside a few days at this point, my feet would get sweaty, so consider this a warm sandal - feels better with a breeze though. I'm somebody with a high arches and could feel some moderate support - so that's good. [Will try to update IF I notice any pain issues so my my fellow high-arches can be aware] Seems like a good balance of rigidity, and slight flex where needed. Only walked a little with the cleats installed, seemed to be well protected from the ground! Might not want to hike in them, but a quick lunch or cafe stop won't be an issue. Truly my only concern at this point is how long the tread will last. Like the style, feels solid overall, and mostly comfortable.

Very happy with this sandal. Sizing seemed right on. It was the product I expected. Owned a pair of Shimano cycle sandals before & loved them. Hope to get as much use out of the new pair.

Product runs 1 size big. Had to reorder one size smaller. Zappos made my return painless.

Needed a sandal with clipless bike technology. Shimano makes the mounts we use so buying their sandals made sense.

In cycling shoes I normally wear a size bigger to accommodate for swelling. My older (1st) pair of Shimano sandals from 15 years ago are size 43-44 and had to use Superfeet insert. The last 6 years I've been riding recumbent trike and usually get 'HOT' feet after an hour even with the cleats positioned below ball of foot. I know by having larger size cycling shoe the area where the SPD cleats attached are not in ideal position for me but back then the larger size accommodated the swelling and my past foot surgeries (I wanted longer to protect my toes). This time I purchased the size 41 (they did not have 42). Since adjustable straps they fit perfect for my wide width even if I wear cycling socks or not. Very comfortable to walk and no 'HOT' foot even after 3 hrs of riding my recumbent especially up hills. I'm very happy with these sandals no need for inserts on this pair. The sole is not as stiff as the original pair from 15 years ago but I use clipless pedals with larger platform for clipless or regular shoes so not that noticeable. If riding with smaller platform clipless pedals you will probably notice more flexing if you're a masher vs a spinner. FYI I did have 2nd pair of a 'newer' version in oversize but the sole deteriorated before the (1st pair) original version with the Superfeet insert. So we will see how long this version holds up. I hope longer since these are the most comfortable for me. Like another viewer mentioned get exact or try to size down. Zappos has a great return policy if it doesn't work out! Also I normally wear women's 11W. The size 41 sandals are 11 inch long and widest part of ball of foot is 4 inch.
