Shimano

Shimano Logo
In 1961, a three-speed bicycle hub displayed at the New York Toy Show became the catalyst for what would eventually become Shimano American Corporation. The popularity of 20-inch wheeled bikes with hi-rise handle bars fueled a demand for multi-speed hubs and Shimano® began producing an affordable and reliable version that caught the attention of the cycling world. By 1965, Yoshizo Shimano, the youngest son of the company founder in Japan, opened an office in New York to get product feedback and to provide technical and warranty assistance to retailers selling bikes equipped with Shimano® parts.

Though Shimano America has grown from its modest office staffed by only three people to a full distribution center with sales and marketing offices, the goals are the same: to ensure that Shimano® always has a listening ear to provide feedback on relevant trends and needs and make it a reality for their customers.

Shimano® invented SPD recessed cleat and pedal technology, which revolutionized the industry. The unique systems-engineered shoe/pedal combinations - only from Shimano® - enhanced power-transfer even more. A few years later the efficiencies were applied to the road systems with the development of SPD-SL technology. Less wasted movement, even distribution of power across the pedal and increased comfort. Simply more power from you to the bike.

Shimano's participation extends much further than its products. Through advocacy programs, ISO 14001 certification and even commuter/car pool programs for their employees, Shimano® is committed to minimizing their impact on the environment.

Got these for spin class. Overall excellent upgrade from wearing gym shoes and strapping in. Takes a bit to get used to the clip in movement. Getting out is pretty easy. Setup was pretty easy. Sizing seems correct. I bought a 47 and wear a size 12US usually. The mountain bike style was recommended to me to keep the metal cleats off the gym floor. No complaints. Will now find a version for my wife.

If you are attaching these to Shimano shoes, you are supposed to also use the Shimano adaptor -- or at least that's what the directions that come with the Shimano shoes says. As far as I can tell the adaptor basically allows you to take steps without walking directly on the cleat (although they aren't really walkable; you'd need a different style of cycle shoe for that).

They definitely run small -- I usually wear a 37 in euro sizes and needed a 39 in this shoe. But they're comfortable and work well for spin class. Be aware that you need to purchase the cleats separately, and if you are attaching SPD cleats there is another part you need (cleat adaptor, same brand, also available on this site) -- I didn't realize I needed the adaptor until I read the directions that came with the shoes.

These shoes are great for spinning and spin classes. You can use them with Look Delta Clips/cleats or with SPD cleats. You do need to get the cleats separate, but this is the case with most cycling shoes. I recommend getting the shimano brand clips because they fit well and are easy to install (You need an allen wrench.). THESE SHOES RUN SMALL. I wear an 8.5 in running shoes and needed a size 40, but I normally need a smaller size for European sizes.

This pair is my first purchase of cycling shoes. I read a lot of the reviews on the sizing and ended up getting a 40 (I wear a size 7 in US womens) and they fit perfectly!! I've only worn them a couple of times but so far so good!

Great shoes but I ordered a women’s 8 first and they were way too small! (I’m usually an 8.5) I ended up getting a 9.5 Womens size and they fit better but are a little too big. Overall I wish they had more of a size range for women’s shoes!

These ran a full size smaller. I really liked the look and feel of these shoes but didn't read closely enough. I thought they were black (not navy) and I didn't want navy shoes. Other than that, they were great!

These ran a full size small but my reason for returning was I started wondering about the durability of the closure. I figured if it doesn't hold up, it's probably not replaceable.

The boa system was great, but the velcro at the bottom is useless. I have rather wide feet, and the toebox was huge. I really can't imagine anyone needing to loosen that strap at all. So therefore the only point would be to tighten it, but the material is so stiff that if you tighten that velcro strap it bunches and will rub blisters on to the top of your foot/toes in no time! So unless you have a rather wide foot like me, and don't think you'll need to tighten down that velcro at all, skip this shoe.

I love these shoes. I bought them for my spin class and they are awesome. I usually wear a size 9.5/10 and bought the size 43. The straps are long enough that you can tighten up as much as you want and the toe box is really roomy which is awesome for Spin class, so your toes don't get all scrunched up. These are my 2nd pair of spin shoes and first Shimano and these are my favorites so far. I had a really awesome class and was really able to flatten my foot and work my quads and butt with these. And the yellow color is super cool and fun!

I normally wear a Ladies 8.5 in running shoes. Shimano has labelled the European size 41 as a US women's 8.5. I disagree! The 41 was much too big. I went with the 40 which was still spacious, and I don't doubt the 39 would have fit also. I suggest ordering your traditional European shoe size (or one larger) as I think Shimano has applied men's sizes to their conversion and not US women's sizes. Additionally, I have a wide foot and a high arch which these shoes easily accommodated.

The shoes are really comfortable with all 360 degree feet positions. I use it with Shimano clits and Ultegra pedals. Beware, the size of bike shoes usually require 1 or 1.5 size bigger than normal shoes.

I ordered these for our Peloton bike. When I first started riding, I figured I would just use my wife's shoes since they are left clipped into the bike and our sizes are not too different. Well, after 2 months of riding I realized my feet were killing me due to the original shoes. Not a slight against Peloton, because I knew the shoes were too small. I figured I would try to order something similar to my running shoes for the bike. The catch is that I need a wide shoe, and those are hard to find for cycling. Anyway, ordered these and also ordered a set of Look Delta cleats off Amazon. You will need to order cleats-the shoes don't come with them. For Peloton, use the Look Delta style. They run about $15. Also, be sure to watch a video on how to install them if you are new to this process. I didn't realize they have very specific ways of being fitted. I suggest watching this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7sPtsevR9w as it was very thorough. Now, for the shoes. WOW, what a difference! I wound up ordering a 43 wide, versus the 41 regular my wife had and the difference was incredible! These shoes have very soft sides and I almost don't notice them at all when wearing them. The little BOA adjustment on the top strap is different (kinda odd, so 4 stars for style) but seems to work just fine. I had a great ride this morning with my new shoes and am looking forward to many more. They are so comfortable. Overall, if you're looking for a comfortable cycling shoe, especially in a wide, for a Peloton bike, I highly recommend these!

These were small! I go to spin and wear a 39 in shoes there, and have a pair of Pearl Izumi shoes in 39. These 39s were very small! I wear a 7.5, and these shoes felt like a 6.5. But I liked the amount of padding in the sole, and that there were only two instead of three straps, so I'll just exchange and hope for a better fit.
