Review for Zappos VIP Points (What's this?)
Well, the problem with hiking boots is that it's impossible to gauge fit until you've actually worn them on a trail. This is the reason I have never bought hikers thru Zappos. I gambled with these and lost big-time. The boots fit well in my house and in an outdoor store with a fake hill to try shoes on -- wide toebox and my foot stayed in place. Sadly, out on the trail, the left shoe made my foot numb. I adjusted lacing, tried orthotics, added cushioning... no help. Too bad b/c they were hugely expensive. They have a roomy wide toebox and stiff hiking soles, but something about the instep I guess was just too tight for my foot. I wore them on 7-12 mile dayhikes with a fair bit of steep ascent/descent. My toes did not smash against the front, but the L foot numbness thing. Like all trad hiking boots, they could use a ton more cushioning in the insole. I keep hoping for a trail-runner/hiking-boot merge. Nice-looking shoe and good quality for someone seeking a traditional hiking boot, but this one was not for me and now I guess I'll try to gear-garage them at an outdoor store.
