This is a fabulous hiking and off trail shoe that is truly waterproof. This brand of shoe especially This style is known for its wide toe box designed to be more like an actual foot shape. So when trying this shoe a person needs to understand that and not criticize inappropriately. The rest of the shoe fits normally with the heel staying secure. This brand and style are also known for being a zero drop shoe which means it's flat to the ground with it not bring slightly higher from back to front. This design is to mimic how our body abs feet were meant to naturally walk which is something I really like. The shoe is cushioned nicely but not overly so. Again designed for good ground contact and help your feet and arch stay strong naturally. The shoe materials are soft and comfortable. The color is nice too and wish there were more options. This type of design with wide toe box and zero drop is not for everyone. I'd advise researching this brand of shoe and exploring their other designs to help you choose trying one out. Then perhaps they would be reviewed a little more objectively and not just slamming them for having a wide toe box.....which is one of this brands selling points.

So grateful for the 1-star review saying toe box too wide. I'd ordered 3 other Altras from Zappos, and all had a bizarre slanted toe box that squished off little toes. So your review was great, helped me realize that this, the Lone Peak, was for me. I'm probably a wide in toe box but a medium everywhere else. They just arrived today and are perfect. Waterproof too--the one shoe brand for the rest of my life! Thanks, Altra and Zappos!

Size and toe box width was great. I wore them on a trip to Alaska where it rained quite a bit. My feet never got wet with these shoes. They were also comfortable to walk and hike in.

The shoe fit generally well, but my bunion hits the side in a bad place - sometimes a shoe box is wide, but just not contoured for my strange feet. I did insert a Pedag insole to boost the arch support and it felt fine, except for the bunion area. I am sorry they don't work.

I’m usually 8.5-9, ordered these in 9 and they were huge! Toe box is very wide—too wide

Excellent shoes for me. I have bunions and the wider toe box is best. These are water proof, can’t wait to try them out.

I’ve worn this brand for years. Bought these for a trip since they were water proof. Only to discover on my trip that they fit a half toa whole size smaller. My second toe rubbed the entire trip. Very uncomfortable. Also in rain the toe slides when wet. Not a good replacement for my other altars. Same brand same size, but fit much smaller.

The width seemed narrower than previous versions of this shoe.

The shoes that I ordered arrived with dirt on the soles and marks on the uppers. Clearly these shoes had been worn. Disappointed. Returned
